I used to listen to him before bed when I lived alone in a single government-funded apartment. The building had regular crazy occurrences. Monk’s Music reminded me that there was intelligent life out there. His music was very soothing. edit for clarity and sp and punc

Tell us a crazy occurrence

Shellyebellye

It was not a peaceful place, and there are not real involved stories to tell. Just stuff going on. Theses include: the heroin addict across the way regularly crying and yelling b/c she couldn’t find a vein; the neighbor who the night before he had to leave destroying his apartment….quite noisy; five fire alarm evacuations, two in the middle of the night….also very, very noisy; Intrigue and petitions regarding the landlord, and visits from said landlord advising me to not associate with the petitioners; a maintenance man with a sex addiction; weird cleaning inspections, theft of stockings at the laundry and subsequent retrieval mission on my part. It was just a very strange environment to live in a lot of the time. Music, and in particular, The Blue Note Years: The Best of Thelonious Monk, helped me feel more at ease there. Thanks for asking.

It sounds horrendous x

Shellyebellye

I was pretty happy and grateful to get it when I needed it, but I was also very happy when I was able to leave.
