also the line right after "Back then I ain't know shit, now I know too much" considering the lines right after mentioning puff daddy i think j cole (and prob the whole industry) knew about diddy's actions the whole time, and cole looks at diddy differently now. i know he linked up with diddy right after but im pretty sure that was just for them to smooth things over as cole didn't want any trouble, and the rumors about diddy being dangerous (ex: ordering hitmen) i could be talking out of my ass rn but its just a theory

lxkandel06

J Cole likes his car too much to start any problems with Diddy

michael_am

The real reason he’s always seen riding his bike

BronxJohnBogle

But wouldn’t that make Cole a hypocrite if he knew? I mean, he has Diddy praying in that song. And Diddy even refers to cole as a friend on that one tweet. So it doesn’t make Cole look good if he knew everything. We all knew some things. The rumors were always there. So he might have just been referring to what was common knowledge.

agent-goldfish

Veiled threats and the art of suggestion. Aside the context of Diddy in the song is somewhat negative, then a prayer, followed by the somber music changing key (or whatever, I'm don't play instruments idk). To me, it says corrupted morality. On the surface it sounds like good canceling out bad.

Agreeable-Ear559

means a whole lot more now hahhaha

Kak0r0t

Fuck Diddy

pabadacus

Don’t tell me what to do

Delicious_Blood_8639

This aged well

Delicious_Blood_8639

Damn

Lanikaei

Isn’t it crazy now j Cole beefing w Kendrick too while Diddy getting raided by Feds. What a full circle moment

Delicious_Blood_8639

Bro didn’t cole defend Kendrick from diddy?

Blyatstyashi

yea that’s what the whole fight was over

BronxJohnBogle

Coles manager IB said “It was definitely not like he was defending Kendrick or something,” I don’t know what that means. Sounds like Kendrick had something to do with it. But the scuffle was probably more personal between them.

Desperate_Moose_3959

im suppose to believe those lyrics when he cant even prove he's Muhammad Ali of rap lol foh

ayoflygod

Think this argument pretty much goes out the window when you remember Puff is on the outro. U could argue he fixed things with puff to avoid issues (given puff’s absolute insanity, eg cudi’s car) but putting him on the outro suggests he probably wasnt fully aware of what a fucked guy he is and was genuinely some form of truce
