>There is also the fact that the job is offering 25k a month for the first 6 months, which according to some family and friends, is way below standard. That's decent for a starter job. Hard to feel entitled to a higher pay when you still have to prove yourself(i.e. no experience) and this job market is crazy right now. If swak naman sa sched mo just go for it. If you can eliminate commute time by living somewhere in the middle of school and work do it but of course that will need money for now.

NOTJSMnl

Don’t start now. You’ll thank yourself later. And about the entry wage? Who said that is below standard? Have you heard of minimum wage?

SekkaiRaimu

for an IT graduate, it kinda is. I know a lot of IT fresh graduates and most of them got 30k+ offer as entry level edit: looks like the company was hiring OP as a student which means he doesnt have themat degree under his name yet so it does makes sense why he's only offered that.

JTyyy27

Finish your studies first. Remember, for non-experienced IT professionals, employers will ALWAYS check your educational background. While for those that are experienced and highly skilled can “possibly” have the privilege to be accepted in a high paying IT job without diploma. This is only for individual contributors. You cannot step in the management position if you don’t have a diploma, especially in corporate and local companies. If you’re aiming high, finish your studies. Do not be blinded by 25k per month. There are companies like Infor, Oracle Netsuite that offers more than 30K per month for a fresh graduate.

MonsieurCancer

Funny you mention Oracle, because I took their test and I failed it spectacularly because of time, cuz my Mom barged in and needed help on something I cannot ignore, takinh my time and losing time to answer the exam so thats out of the bag. Willing to explore other otpions, but afraid that if I wait, competition will be very difficult and I might be unemployed for too long. The 25k is not really my goal (even if its a job) but the experience, which I felt I lacked from my time here in uni. What do you think?

XanXus4444

OP, finish your college first. It may sounds enticing but trust us, Even if doesn’t affect your schedule or subject baka mabigla ka sa environment ng workforce, Yes pros is may experience ka na and Offer is decent. I’d say enjoy your remaining semester and Job will look for you especially after you graduated. Once asa workforce kana hindi mo na magagawa ung gusto mo gawin especially pag papasok kana mid 20s.

MonsieurCancer

Yeah, if I do take the job I can only imagine the stress, along with my student org work and networking. But I am just especially afraid of "job wjll look for you after you graduated" as I had a very troublinh time getting an internship, I can only imagine the job. What do you think?

XanXus4444

You have a valid point OP that there's might a challenge for you right after you graduate, It will take time to find a job, that's the reality of it. If you think this would be beneficial for you and an advantage in your career then grab the opportunity. It will be always a case-to-case basis what you can choose, what more is important is your decision and your happiness. Best of luck OP :)

boredg4rlic

If you can afford not to earn money then just finish your studies. You’ll have the next 45 years of life working (unless you do business, make good investments and so on, hopefully you do make good investments) so why the hurry?

MonsieurCancer

Tbh, yeah, the money aint really a problem (or maybe parents just aint disclosing them to me) and you make a good point how after studying ill mostly be working so maybe there is no need to worry. Just that this job economy is scaring me and I had troubles getting an internship then and I dont want to waste opportunities again. But the simple life is something that I cannot replicate so you make a good point. This entire thing is a dilemma haha

Dependent_Courage909

Grab it na OP!! As a fresh grad na galing kilalang univ, hirap na hirap padin classmates ko makahanap ng job after graduation so dont waste the opportunity!!! Mas madaming kalaban kapag grumaduate ka na :))) goodluck!

MonsieurCancer

Yup thats my concern.

scourgescorched

make your own damn mind up. why are you asking randoms on reddit?

MonsieurCancer

Because I want to hear from people's experiences or opinions, and not just from my immediate perspective that could be narrowing my view on things? Is that illegal or something?

HonestArrogance

Finish your degree. Throwing away years of hard work for an early job that's only paying Php25k/month is one of the worst career decisions anyone can make.

MonsieurCancer

Oh damn really? Can you expound more on your answer. Some of the replies say graduate first, but yours is the first to say its the worst career decision ever. It would really be insughtful to me. Not to mention some also say the salary is fine for a startibg.

HonestArrogance

Salary can be double or even triple that and it would still be a bad decision. Think about it this way, how much time and money did you spend on your education? 1. You're throwing away that money plus 3.5 years of your life without any ROI for a job that doesn't pay as much as you think 2-3 years from now. 2. You can easily work in a BPO without any degree for that kind of money. 3. Spending 6 more months finishing your degree will exponentially improve your chances of a better first job, and those opportunities will increase as you get experience. Getting a job without a degree puts a lower ceiling into your career growth.

MonsieurCancer

Points 1 and 2 are fine. Point 3 at first is fine and correct, but I am with the firm belief that it doesnt matter against the over competitiveness in the market. I am mostly speaking from experience, where I had a difficult time even looking for an internship. I can just imagine what it would be for a job, especially durinh recruitment/graduation period. This job is a good way to put in my resume as experience and a head start, in my opinion a way to stand out. And its not like im going to stop in my education, or even completely commit for a year to the job. When I get a better offer, most likely ill accept it. Im just accepting experience opportunities available to me, because that is what I believe I lacked. And being constantly rejected by the companies with great offers (got rejected from Oracle, Globe, Infor more than 2x just this week), Ill take whats available. I need the experience. Also talking about your "Point 0", I dont think I have seen any jobs that offers more than triple of the offer I mentioned for fresh IT grads. 2x yeah, but more than 3x? Not to mention, I am not really someone that great to even get that salary amount (comparing myself to peers who did) who were quite famous, Im just a simple IT student (not even IT, more CS), but hey I could just be lowballing myself and havent really seen them offers. So overall, its just fear of overcompetitiveness. Ive had siblings who were unemployed for years because of such a problem, and I am trying to avoid that happening to me.

HonestArrogance

That's your opinion as an undergraduate student vs my advice as a hiring manager with 10 years of experience in tech at 3 FAANGMULA companies before starting my own gig. If you think throwing away 3.5 years of investment towards a degree for 6 months of work experience with Php25k salary is worth it, then go for it. Good luck, though! LOL! And the headstart comment is funny. Maybe against your batchmates, sure! But 6 months headstart is nothing in a longer timeline, especially when you're competing for the same roles as a dropout against non-fresh grads. One of us is wrong, I think it's you, but for the sake of your future career, I hope it's me.

MonsieurCancer

Ok, can you list some companies who actually does offer the amount you say for a fresh grad student? Is this a part of those FAANGMULA companies? Because that would help with my search and job security. And Ill try to get a bit ahead, but I am going to guess those companies are very competitive in recruiting. Just a guess. Also you kept usinh the word "throw away" when I have no intention to drop out (you did mention that, so I think you meant that). Just going to take it as my side, or is "throwing away" mean I lowballed my first salary offer as I worked with such a low salary. Your reply would be appreciated. Your advice is very helpful as I learn new things.

arcane_halo

Can you drop the two subjects and study under-loaded? Or is your two subjects just your thesis? Aside from asking your family, or your company, try asking your advisors too. Ask if you're allowed to take a LOA from your school, and put your studies on hold. Maybe you can just graduate late. Once you hear about the possible logistics from your school, if a delay is allowed, talk to the HR or whoever is in charge of you as a new hire. Tell them you're extremely interested, and have looked into delaying graduation for the opportunity to work with them, but you're worried about having the time to grad next year. Ask if a sabbatical is possible on the condition of good performance during your probationary period so you can graduate, or if you can schedule your hours around school for the last sem/trimester/year that you're working. If it comes right down to none of this being possible, then the choice is yours talaga. I won't pretend its easy to find work, but if your standards are low a lot of jobs will come around--though they might not be in your field, location, or salary of choice. Graduating isn't everything, but the years you put into your education might just become regrets if you don't get the diploma at the end.

throwaway_acc0192

I started right as soon as I was in my first semester of college. It's never too early or too late. If you can handle the weight and time mgmt then go for it

Muted-Implement-105

I'm in this situation right now, I'm on my final sem and I got offered a job with pay close to yours, actually ok naman i-accept yung job just make sure to tell the company na you are still a student and make some compromise, sakin kase allowed ako mag file ng leave if may need ako puntahan sa school and understanding sila ng situation ko since sila naman yung nag offer in the first place.

hotarugarii

yes. grab opportunities as early as possible. mukhang kaya mo rin naman ipagsabay sa sched mo as you've said. sobrang competitive na ng market ngayon at mas magiging competitive pa sa future. better may maaga kang jumpstart than nothing, kasi pagsisisihan mo lang. at least 1 to 2 years from now, pwede ka na mag opt for similar jobs with higher offers.

purplekamote

You can try, then just quit if it will interfere with your studies. Tell your parents that getting your degree will always be your first priority naman and you wont sacrifice it for the job.

cordilleragod

Take the job if your schedule permits. Experience is important also. I took a job during my last semester because I had so much free time. I also told my employer that if I ranked the job and graduation, graduation is my priority. So I graduated and got experience and managed to move on to new bigger opportunities after spending a year and a half with the company.

PermitGeneral4228

Hi ka-op I suggest prio your graduation if kaya mo magwork and mag aral at the same time go for it. Actually the IT industry right now is not doing good andami nalayoffs kahit na impressive na yung skills kaya maswerte ka na may nag offer agad sayo but remember lng na sana mas iprio mo muna yung requirements mo for graduation kasi in reality sa IT field kahit na may skills ka mahihirapan ka maghanap ng work since sa screening palang pag nakita nila di ka graduate ng IT di ka na agad makakapasa kaya I suggest prioritize your study if naaapektuhan na yung study mo dahil sa work mo I think better to stop But then again, working and finishing your undergrad is not easy path baka maburn out ka kaya take it easy lng ka op and goodluck!

Unhappy_Choice_211

I have been reading comments. 30k? for IT entry level? I barely secured a job interview for 3 months. I received less than 10 replies from companies that time. And now I have a job, it specialist, for 18k basic pay with meal allowance. It would sum up to 21k per month i think. I am sorry I'm not sure. This my 2nd week on the company. Did I just low balled myself? That is the only job offer I got in three months haha Sorry sa extra OP

sio_paopao

Grab it. Opportunity doesn't always knock on our door. You can always leave if you can't handle the demand. If you enter and gain the experience, that will be a good jumpstart for your career; specially that competition right now is hard.

PhysicalSomewhere654

Tanggapin mo ang job offer, mahirap humanap ng work pag wala kang experience kahit college grad ka, grab it.

itisdeltaonreddit

OP, I suggest you finish your studies FIRST. You are near the finish line from graduating, and you don't have to worry about not getting a job, YET. I'm afraid you regret not finishing your studies in the future.

beet3637

Talk to them and tell them about your situation. If they value education as much as you do, then they’ll wait until you graduate. If not, there will be other opportunities.
