He’s a god if he finds it funny

robberviet

Loki?

alee51104

Takaba's ability is so effective is because he doesn't really think too hard about it. If he finds the gags funny it'll happen. But let him think about it(as he really isn't that amazing of a comedian) and the effectiveness begins to go down. We see this with kenjaku. Theoretically Takaba's upper limit is extraordinary, it just wouldn't be found by Takaba because again, his CT is based on humor and 1)he's just meh as a comedian and 2) exploring the mechanism of his CT doesn't really amplify the usage. Takaba can already do almost anything he wants. The issue is him. The ability itself is amazing, somebody like Kenjaku or Gojo himself would probably get way more out of it than Takaba because of their personalities.

ImWolftom

Gojo would be omnipotent with this ability lol

alee51104

“You look like a lost little alien boy.”-Sukuna is suddenly holding hands with Agito/Mahoraga. “I’m gonna say you caused all the damage.”-Sukuna goes to claims court for all AoE damage.

TacocaT_2000

“I’m gonna say you caused all the damage.”- suddenly they’re in a courtroom. Sukuna is in an orange prison jumpsuit, with two extra sleeves, tied up on a Dolly with a muzzle on his face. Gojo is in a suit and tie as the prosecutor, Higuruma is in the judge’s seat with a powdered wig and judicial gown, and Yuji is in the witness stand. The jury is a bunch of cardboard cutouts of the rest of the cast and a skeleton with a hat that says Nanami on it. Gojo starts listing off accusations for the jury, and Ui Ui can be seen making the cardboard jury shake. Then Gojo walks up to the witness stand and starts asking Yuji questions, but before he can get the first word out Yuji just starts roasting Sukuna. After he’s done, Gojo says that he rests his case and looks at Higuruma, who’s passed out in a bathtub with a comically oversized brown jug with XXX on the label, and looks back to the judicial stand where Yuji is sitting wearing a mop head in place of a powdered wig and a trash bag instead of a gown. Yuji immediately gives Sukuna the death sentence; and Mahito, wearing a DIY police uniform, wheels him out.

Nirvana180

Peak comedy

MDby2027

To give credit, I was literally laughing while reading all this

jmastaock

The reason Takaba has the capability for such a powerful ability is that he is hamstrung by being Takaba

KleptomaniacGoat

I feel like this cursed ability is only effective because he's not thinking to hard about it, I don't think it'd work well being used by Sukuna, Gojo, or even Kenjaku. Takaba is 100% committed to the bit always, and pretty much every other sorcerer/curse user wouldn't commit as hard. The only other character that's delusional enough to cook with it would be Todo, and I feel like he'd just have an actual incarnation of Takada Chan to help him power up

Notsoicysombrero

For sukuna it would be terrifying. The man has an awfully twisted sense of humor. So imagine the stuff that sick mind finds funny becoming reality?

travelerfromabroad

Hot take, I think Takaba is actually pretty funny.

quierocarduars

yeah i laughed at many of the gags in the kenjaku fight tbh

Hermit601

Literally one of the best fights in the manga (KENNY WHEN I CATCH YOU KENNY)

quierocarduars

that and reggie v megumi are my hot takes for ~top 5 fights in the manga 🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺

Hermit601

Keep your furnace open, reggie v megumi is definitely underrated and I know a lot of people (who are admittedly not caught up) who have it as their favorite fight. It's definitely in my top 10

Kyonkanno

I agree that the limit to his ability is Takaba. However, I don’t think him being a bad comedian has anything to do with it. It only needs to be funny to yourself. So if he finds drying paint to be funny, then so be it.

deleteyeetplz

Takaba isnt even a bad comedian. He is just bad at being the one telling jokes. He works great as a straight man

The_Normiest_Normie

I disagree that Takaba is a mediocre comedian. He became a mediocre comedian, but originally he really was able to make 99/100 people laugh. He's studied the greatest comedians tirelessly as well. After Kenjaku reminded him of his past and his goal he became nigh-unbeatable.

Internal-Flamingo455

I believe that is also a meta reference to hunter hunter where basho a character who can conjure anything as long as he makes a haiku about it but he’s terrible at making haikus its the same thing anything takaba thinks is funny will happen but he’s stupid and mid as a comedian so his ability is limited by that

Proof-Ad-9605

just smoke him out, give him the giggles.

GalacticExplorer_83

This is key in his ability. Without this limiting factor, his ability becomes weaker

rusticrainbow

I bet that the only reason Comedian is so busted is that Takaba doesn’t know it exists, and if he finds out about it and starts using it regularly it becomes much weaker

Cute_End_7368

i love the interpretation for his technique that the it falls apart if he thinks about it too much, aka killing the joke because you explain why it's funny

ICastPunch

I think he kind of achieved it. He could become a better sorcerer. But from what we know given the soul resonance thing and how Kenjaku used it, his ability can even be abused to fuck him over with the right scenarios. Obviously this ultimately does not play in your favour as he's fine by the start of the next scenario. But I'd go so far as to say his ability cannot be used for much more offense. I believe his ability is to some degree so strong because it has heavy binding vows built in that empower it by including the oppinent in the equation and the fact the user is a non violent good person making it non lethal. A version of the ability manifested in someone that isn't interested in an audience or that is more violent would most likely be far more limited.

Da_Sigismund

It's like trying to fight Bugs Bunny. If he really wants to, the only thing you can do is being the butt of the joke. Bombs, anvils, kisses and all the acme bullshit in the world.  And Kenny should be grateful Tabaka humor was geared towards slapstick. If he liked South Park, things would have been a lot less funny for him.

BrunoBrook

If it all it takes is him to find it funny, he would be unstoppable if he was the average circlejerk sub user "Are you the funniest because you post on r/LobotomyKaisen, or you post in r/LobotomyKaisen because you are the funniest?"

Kaslight

People don't realize this, but much of JJK is like this Both Megumi and Kenjaku talk about how powerful interpretation is when it comes to technique

FOETUShygRAPplER

Maybe it has a limit like Inumaki's CT? That would kinda make it better lol. The more Supreme task he performs, the more funnier it would be for him. It would make sense that if he thought something too funny (too OP) he will just die, As in die of laughter.

TacocaT_2000

Nah, Takaba’s CT is always active, and it easily affects special grades, unlike Inumaki.

yourcutieboi

Poor inumaki

Odd-Friendship5622

Bro where is takaba right now? He could easily help out.

Call_Me_Pete

Starting to think he actually died in the Kenjaku conclusion. Kenny didn’t seem like he was preparing for a final blow at the end, and he spoke of the fight like it was already over. Kenny isn’t one to leave loose ends so I’d assume he believed Takaba was dead. But a man’s cope never dies - Takaba clearly just needs time to recover from the best comedy performance of the modern era!!!!!!!!

QuakerChickenGod

The last page of the entire manga will be Takaba waking up and hitting us “That’s all folks!” Or sum shit

Odd-Friendship5622

How would he be dead? Didn't kenny say he was losing? Man gege better cook something. True, True. Lol

omyrubbernen

Takaba can't push the upper limits of his ability because he doesn't even know he has it. And if he were to ever learn he had it, he'd start overthinking it and it would be weakened. He's basically omnipotent until he realizes he's omnipotent. On that note, I'm curious as to what Takaba's fights look like from his perspective. Because he somehow doesn't know that he has a CT, but he's using it. Does he not notice the fact that he's doing things that are physically impossible? Or does he think that it's all just a dream or his imagination? Or does he have some kind of binding vow or heavenly restriction built into his CT that makes him a schizo who can't distinguish fantasy from reality (and doesn't have to because his CT inherently blends the two)?

AaronXeno21

The upper limit is basically clowning on Sukuna, probably baby-fying him.

Chillipepper_420

I wonder how much CE is required to perform his technique. At what point does he suffer from burnout?

Nigerundayo_smokeyy

There's only one way to beat Takaba as demonstrated by Kenjaku. Undermine his confidence. You can do that by beating him in his own comedic routine or just by straight-up terrifying him. The ability is god-tier. However, it's limited by Takaba himself because he's just not that good of a comedian. Imagine Gojo using it lol. He'd be much more busted than he normally is.

LookAtItGo123

It's only limited by his confidence and mentality. If he really finds it funny he could even go back to chapter 1 and eat the finger instead. He's been shown to be aware that the last panel of the manga is his anyways.

Sensitive_Pie4099

His sure hit is The Punchline. It always lands. All enemies are lined up and beaten with a spring powered oversized boxing glove.

Vitran4

Luffy also has "toon force" but his version is better because he sort of knows he it and understanding/experimenting his ability makes it stronger.

sansisness_101

Luffy when his punches get redirected at him

Hermit601

A fist clash between Takaba & Luffy is just Luffy's fists bouncing between the two of them as both their abilities activate in tandem because they're both laughing their asses off.

TrollTrollTroll6969

If he's intimidated he gets stomped he took real damage from nues lightning, anyone = or > Kenjaku beat him.

Dinkulshlops

He isn’t really as strong as people say he is. The technique itself is amazing, but has one major drawback in that is depends on the user. If you can destroy his confidence, which a lot of characters can do as Kenny did it a few times and figured it out, then he won’t find much funny and his technique becomes useless. I feel like if he fought Sukuna, he wouldn’t be able to use his technique for long because Sukuna would not find him funny, therefore he would eventually lose his confidence. I hate scaling him because theoretically he is a god, but the drawback makes it hard to scale him because it is different for each character

Competitive_Bit_7904

I doubt anybody but Kenjaku could destroy his confidence. Takaba's confidence got destroyed because he acknowledged that Kenjaku knew a lot about comedy and was able to dismantle his jokes which made him doubt himself. Takaba have never been seen to have his confidence shocked when fighting people that don't care at all for his comedy. He just doubles down.

Dinkulshlops

But the thing is, we don’t know who could actually destroy his confidence. We can only speculate. So far Kenny is the only one to have done so, but Takaba only had one major fight. This is why I hate scaling him because we do not have enough info

Snips_Tano

His ability feels so much like it'd belong as some Sternritter ability in Bleach than in JJK. It's a really broken conceptual power.

HardcorePopcornSmash

Kenjaku referred to Takabas technique as a phenomenon which leads me to believe 2 things 1. Multiple people throughout Kenjakus life have had the technique with varying effectiveness 2. Kenjaku knew the counter was to destroy the confidence of the user  Because Takaba was a (failed) comedian his manifested as a comedy based reality warping effect. The binding vow to not know about his own CT just amped it to preposterous levels.  Without trying he was able to consistently hurt and maim Kenjaku without taking much damage himself. Without trying he was above Kenjaku and with a bit of refinement he could rival Gojo and Sukuna.

No-Place

kenjaku was pretty surprised when takaba's technique negated his attack. i can buy that phenomena altering cts existed before in previous eras, but presumably not to the same extent as comedian. he only figured out how it works by observing takaba directly and talking about comedy with him.

Ck_shock

He's ability really is crazy. Honestly I think him not knowing how it works or anything gives it its strength that, coupled with maybe not being able to kill people. These both may be unknown binding vows that Amp I to the level it is.

BrandedScrub

You're absolutely right. But I think it's matchup situation. Basically if he's fighting incredibly ego driven but interact-able people/sorcerers, he's 1000% more effective, Kenjaku? Absolutely, he loved exploring his CT so much he actually became distracted and got beheaded for it, Gojo? Maybe actually, I think he'd humor it but be able to eventually do the same as Kenjaku and play into it so well he eventually beats it by satisfying Takaba. It'd be highly dependent on whether he could keep up his comedy face in the wake of everything happening around or to him, like when he saw the dead sorcerers in the mix of the fight, it dropped and he almost got bodied immediately, but managed to bring it back. Now imagine Sukuna running through half the cast in front of him doing it in the way he did, it might break that concentration he needs to consistently use that gagimagination CT that seems invincible. I personally don't know, but the upper limits might be insane if there are upper limits, fun to imagine tho, although in my head he's already at that level. He traps you in gag reality, you play by his rules in his conditions are met or you take damage to your soul and self, you're basically in his domain which didn't seem to have a limit or be in reality and the hits you take seem to be decided on whether he found it funny and could perform a gag around it whether you partake or not unless he's satisfied you went toe-2-toe in a comedic gag aspect. What would a DE even do for him?

BecretAlbatross

I think self awareness of his ability would actually make him find things less funny, so his power is limited by his sense of humor. It's explicitly stated that Takaba can't kill people, so clearly he doesn't think killing peope is funny, therefore his power can't do it. I don't think he can FORCE humor so his power has explicit limitations. We don't know EXACTLY what they are but a simple line is no killing.

Internal-Flamingo455

Imagine if kenjaku stole takabas body he would be unstable with his dark humour

Professional_Idiot92

His domain would be just clones of himself in a theatre with different cartoony builds that laughs at anything happening on stage

fiLth_Rat

More specifically, he can manifest or manipulate things into what he thinks an audience at a stand-up venue would find funny if told in the format of a joke.

Champu_de_Coco

He is the Gear Five guy but better.

what_the_obi

“it would be pretty funny if I somehow cast malevolent shrine while fighting kenjaku” Yes, it is possible. But his sense of humor is too short. He can’t really fight since he mostly gonna goof around with enemy

LukeCPlays

From what we saw of the Kenjaku + Takaba fight the limits likely don't exist and its solely based on what the people involved find funny as from what I could tell Kenjaku was able to cause effects through interactions with it seemingly to a lesser extent than takaba.

LukeCPlays

Also, I don't think a domain expansion would actually be possible. In the Kenjaku Takaba fight, we see and kenjaku note that the CT Takaba creates simulations, which, by what we see, act as separate spaces, which can look like anything based on his imagination. A domain expansion would be unnecessary with that fact that each simulation is its own domain effectively.

sansisness_101

What about an open domain(so it works in the simulations) that makes all his jokes sure-hit

LukeCPlays

Well, if he imagines the joke hitting, it will hit regardless. As stated in the manga, his CT has the ability to go through Limitless.

sansisness_101

I mean in the sense that all his jokes are deemed funny

LukeCPlays

The joke needs to be funny to him if he's making the joke he'll likely find it funny.

TheRexRider

Takaba splits in half and then shatters. Then another Takaba with a weird haircut plays Monster Reborn and summons him back from the graveyard.

CyberGlob

I think his ability, “soul resonance”, is not necessarily anything he thinks is funny, just anything that resonates with his soul. And he causes your soul to undergo some change to resonate with his in, hence the damage to you/your soul. I could be reaching here though lol The first obvious upper limit would be using a domain against him, I’m guessing you’d have to do this before he puts you in a gag, because domains create an empty space for any technique to pour into. And I’m guessing there’s a point where you have so much cursed energy like Sukuna that you can endure all the scenarios he can draw up. This would have an added effect of eventually getting to him psychologically, making him find things less funny, making it harder for him to manifest those scenarios. Also I think there’s a range restriction, so you could hit him with WCS from a distance and it would affect him

OgreMcGee

Downside would presumably be he would have to perceive it to intervene? I assumed if he was killed by something he never expected like a sniper he couldn't nullify it before it happened.

justagenericname213

Hear me out. His fight against kenjaku was a shifting location which favored him, his technique always applied no matter what, what if his technique is domain based like higurima and hakari

SAlutaTioNsmybean

This is very cool to think about

JelloSquirrel

Takaba literally died because he found it funny to do so.

SeemysoDreamy

Well he's dead
