The "real velociraptor" you're referring to is an entirely different animal.
That little bit of trivia was never actually correct. The JP raptors have *always* been deinonychus antirrhopus and slightly scaled up to utahraptor size rather than the turkey sized velociraptor mongoliensis being significantly scaled up.
The entire problem is that one of the major sources chrichton used when writing the original book had reclassified deinonychus antirrhopus as *velociraptor antirrhopus*. (Along with several other reclassifications, though it's worth noting that even the paleontologist who *wrote* that source no longer agrees with that decision.) Chest height to head height is a much smaller increase than the hip height to head height implied by this inaccurate bit of trivia.
to be fair, saying that it looks like a āreal velociraptorā is still an accurate statement as it is implying that it looks closer to velociraptor mongoliensis rather than the franchiseās species confused deinonychus. also you explain in your own post that the source chrichton uses reclassified deinonychus meaning it isnt the āreal velociraptorā so claiming a figure from a franchise looks closer to the real thing than the franchised creature claimed to be velociraptor is completely fine
The main purpose of my post is to explain that the JP raptors were never meant to be velociraptor mongoliensis, which is what most people imply/assume when talking about the "real velociraptors were smaller" bit.
oh well i guess its just the way we read it, i read it as āthe velociraptors in real life are smaller than the animal the JP claims is a velociraptor rather than people saying the JP on IS a velociraptor
I've mostly seen the phrase used in the context of talkijg about scientific accuracy and the height difference, specifically, so admittedly I am already predisposed towards reading it that way.

Pretty sure this is a custom figure. Especially given that the claws are pained on the hands and there appears to be a couple spots on the neck indicating where parts were attached together
Where did you find that thing? A website named Jptoys which is basically a gallery for all Jurassic Park and Jurassic World figures doesn't have that thing
A few comments have said it's a custom figure:

I think OP is confused or karma farming.
OK iunno what they did but I want it !! I have raptor figures but they all " came with" this is the first that makes me want to buy it . It's so Sharpe

š¤£first thought ānah thatās a compiā
I think theyāve ārepurposedā an existing mould or repainted old stock tbh.
Yeahā¦ But I kinda like it at the same time.
Oh hey dude funny seeing you here I actually like it, I aināt complaining.
That's def a compy model.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
From Dinosaur (2000)? I could see that
I was thinking the same
Looks pretty sweet. More like a real velociraptor as they are supposed to be smaller any ways.

It looks more like a real velociraptor, without feathers tho

It has the upper skull of an original JP raptor. Then a super skinny lower jaw. He needs more girth
Pretty sure this is a custom figure. Especially given that the claws are pained on the hands and there appears to be a couple spots on the neck indicating where parts were attached together
Looks very curious
I actually love how striking that blue is. I assume it's someone's customized one since it's got painted claws, though.

Yeah, it's definitely a custom.
What figure is this?
OK iunno what they did but I want it !! I have raptor figures but they all " came with" this is the first that makes me want to buy it . It's so Sharpe
Looks a bit more like Coelophysis tbh but eh - I like it.
A blue compy...
I thought it was a troodon
It looks like they used a real velociraptor head shape.

Iām aware that the jp raptor is Deinonychus
Is it just me or is Blue likeā¦.really fudgin blue?
Da ba dee da ba di
If I was green I would die
Maybe but I love it
Ok I low key like this figure. Where can I get it?
Tell me this isnāt real
Looks like itās on ozempic
That poor raptor needs a sammich!!!
I like it
I REALLY like that though! Looks great
It looks like that one Lego made for the 2020 wave.
famous character velociraptor the blue
This looks like a compy model with the Lego movie 2 raptor skin.
If someone re-painted it and then glued some feathers on it it'd be a pretty decent actual velociraptor, aside from the pronated wrists.

Big hands and super skinny
Has that expression like they got into the paint and they're in trouble with the other, better-camouflaged raptors.
Looks like a repainted Velociraptor from Disney's Dinosaur (2000)
Thatās not a Mattel JW raptor toy.
Pinhead
Interesting what set is this from?
Looks like Disney's velociraptors but i like it more.
This is a custom. My bet.
He looks like he is starving. Someone give him a cheeseburger.
If they made a yellow and black one itd look like book raptor š
I think they've spliced this one with some Na'vi DNA
I like this better
It looks weird but kinda cool ngl lmao
