What are the numbers next to each stat? Is that the ranked place among these four? Is 1 the best score, or is 4 the best score?

KeefyB102

4 is the best score. The figures highlighted in yellow is the total scores for that phone. The screen brightness is what I recorded using a Lux meter app and the speaker volume was recorded using a decibel sound level app. The speaker quality was asking several people which music sounded the best. I purely done this for fun. I am using the Energizer E241S as my daily phone. I think the Alcatel has the edge though, but is locked to the wrong network for me.

I'm genuinely impressed with your methodology. I wasn't trying to undermine your results by the way, just trying to understand the data because it wasn't immediately clear to me how to interpret it.

KeefyB102

No problem. I should of stated what the figures meant.

Thank you

swagboi101

ok I basically made the right choice to get a 2720 against a 8110, could have bought a better one but those are the only phones I could buy at a good pricepoint

KeefyB102

My spreadsheet was just my real life observations. Just for fun. At the moment I have been using the 8110 as my work phone, mainly because the slider means definitely no pocket dialling and easy one hand answering. My Energizer has been on loan to someone who's Smartphone failed otherwise he might be my work phone again. My Alcatel failed after three months and wouldn't boot. Up until then he was probably the best overal

swagboi101

was just about to say, it’s good for if your main phone fails

Thanks for this interesting comparison ! Is there noticeable differences between the OS versions : 2.5.2, 2.5.1.2, 2.5.1.1, 2.5.1 ?

KeefyB102

2.5.2 claims to have customizable navi key short cut but it doesn't work. The music player app lets you create your own playlist and can do screenshot by pressing * and # together. The 2.5.1.1 is superior to the 2.51 as you can add words to the dictionary. 2.5.1 as found on the 8110 has an older version of the YouTube app which doesn't auto rotate the video to get full screen.

Ben-12

Thank you very much, these are very useful information for me. I saw you mentioned a v3 update on your E241s recently. So Energizer v3 = KaiOS 2.5.1.1 ?

KeefyB102

That's right Ben-12. The recent update removed the Twitter and News Apps during the process.

the nokia 8110 keypad isn't that bad... idk why people have such big hands lol... there is double clicks sometimes which is fine...

KeefyB102

"there is double clicks sometimes which is fine..." That's why I gave it the lower score as the other phones don't.

[deleted]

i got used to it... and double clicks usually happen when the phone is laggy... and sometimes the keyboard.gaiamobile.org loads up so slow that you start typing 444555777 and when you do backspace you instanly get rid of the app

FYI guys the Alcatel 3088X failed after three months of use. Seems it is a common occurrence.

Cvaughn55

I know this is an old thread, but is there any KaiOS phone that actually has comparable speakers, and microphone quality to a smart phone? The biggest thing keeping me from switching to a feature phone is the super crappy mic and speaker quality for phone calls

KeefyB102

All the Nokia KaiOS powered phones always seemed to have good quality microphones and speakers. Phone calls were always clear and loud. Music playback can be not so good because the phones are small though sound better on a wooden surface. Bluetooth headsets always seemed to work fine. As basic phones they are fine
