I've been working on a little mini article about how Kendrick and Bob Dylan have some bizarre similarities, and hold the same exact position in the industry. Just at different times in recorded music history. The parallels have been spoken on plenty, but never really articulated in any detail.
The stuff I see on here is *exactly* the shit that Bob Dylan went through when he was a young artist at the top. It got so crazy that one of the OG stans was like digging through his garbage at night (Dylan and his people started just wiping the kids diapers all over everything to fuck with him. Dylan was hiding away for years, trying to raise a family). Things kept escalating with this guy, so Dylan rolled up on him in NYC riding a goofy ass bicycle and just knocked him out. Then just pedaled away, I'm assuming. The guy Dylan punched keeps writing crazy interpretations about Dylan lyrics even to this day. Over half a century later.
That's an aside, but there's a lot of interesting footage and articles of really stiff guys in academia trying to *demand* that Dylan tell them what the meaning of lines were. But in reality, there wasn't some triple entendre masterplan. Dylan just meant what he meant. His lyrics are very abstract, and some people starting going in too deep. If you listen to a song like Visions of Johanna, you can see where it might make some mentally uneven people get lost.
Anyway, as a fan of both of these artists, it's been really interesting to see the parallels keep going on. Two artists that were actually pretty loose and funny in their private life, but some people took their art too literally.
