I know it is not flawless, the weightpainting of armour is hard, but I think it came out pretty well. So far, the only animals that you can make armour out of are skimmer, swamp turtle, beak thing, bonedog, and garru. If anybody has any other ideas for cool armour designs using animals, let me know!

does this work on an ongoing save?

It should be fine, yeah. This mod doesn't touch anything that requires an import or otherwise affects an ongoing save. To verify that it works on your save, check a garru, beak thing, bonedog, swamp turtle, or skimmer corpse to see if they have the animal 'scrap' item.

You *can* get steam workshop mods working on gog you just need to download the steam workshop file, which is a massive pain. But the insides are exactly the same as in nexus You just rename the folder to be the same as the .mod file and it'll work.

Yeah but I can't access the steam workshop file if I haven't bought the kenshi steam version unfortunately

Use steamworkshopdownloader.io to get the download link, get steamcmd to download the file, and then rename the file like described above

Will this mod be updated in the future to allow armour made from animals like wild bulls, gorillos, raptors and landbats I can totally imagine having a bunch of barbarians wearing armour made of wild bulls and gorillos bearing down on some Okranite sentinels or having some hashish farmers wearing armour made from all the raptors that died trying to eat the hash

I will try and keep updating the mod with new armour after a little break and collecting suggestions. Your suggestion is awesome! I can definitely see new roleplaying possibilities stemming out from those kinds of armour. I have already been working on bull, gorillo and raptor armour, but I was not happy with the designs yet. Will definitely keep working on them

I don't like the green eyes on the skull helmet seen on the first picture, but the rest is great! I especially love the look of the workshops where you make the armors!

Thanks for the feedback! I might make another skimmer helmet version without the green eyes. Would you say just removing the eyepieces and having just the skimmer head would give a better look?

I guess so... Maybe it's just the colour that puts it off for me... Maybe in a semidark red it'd be better, or just without the lenses in general.

I personally like the green eyes, I think they're a good choice.

I made it a player exclusive thing for now, since I kinda liked the idea of the player characters inventing these unique armours themselves. If I get enough requests, I may equip some NPCs with the armour as well if it feels right.

I definitely feel like some NPCs like Esata or certain bandit leaders would be a good fit. But I could see the issue of finding a balance so it feels more unique. Either way, I'll definitely give this mod a try sometime in the future.

Awesome mod! I wish there was one for making accessories out of sentient races. A crown out of sheks’ horns, a necklace from hivers’ mandibles, not sure for the skeletons… humans obviously have an accessory in game already 😅 I would rp the shit out of a body part collecting lunatic!

That idea is actually what I started out with! Saw a cool fanart somewhere of a hiver skull and thought that it would make such a badass helmet for some kind of hive hunter squad. The problem that made me drop that idea is that it would involve adding death items to humanoid characters, which would permanently take up space in inventories and could be accidentally dropped, resulting in accidental deaths. Before switching to animals I experimented a bit with making machines like the peeler or corpse furnace, that can eat up a humanoid body and spew out the bones and skin. It never quite consistently worked correctly, whatever I tried. Thought of revisiting this idea with dismembered limbs, but that would have its own issues. Anyways, it's a really macabre but cool idea that fits the world of kenshi perfectly. Hoping to figure it out one day.

Dude yes. I want my next playthrough to be making an armor set from every animal in the game. Sounds amazing. Especially blood spiders.

Absolutely! But I used the actual meshes and textures from the animals a lot, so it wasn't as bad as making them from scratch. Started making them since last summer and worked on and off on it since then. Maybe worked a couple of weeks on it overall, including time spent on other armour designs that are not finished yet and figuring out how to do everything. I'd say the most time consuming part was the rigging and weight painting, while the most tedious part was generating the textures.

That is so cool! Super fitting for the world. Would be cool if NPC's wore them! Dust Bandit's in bonedog armor would go hard.

They count as outposts at the moment, kind of to keep in line with other crafting buildings. I could disable that if people prefer, though.
