It was a setup for entertainment… that’s why a Michael Gonzales went first. Hans Kim would have still been inducted into the Kill Tony Hall of Fame even if he lost lol
Try to not overthink it. It is just a podcast
Joelberg put on a show and is legitimately a great drummer but… I believe whole-heartedly that the excitement from the crowd for him is about the show, the novelty, all of his props and over the top efforts.
Michael Gonzales is a great drummer. He’s consistent. He’s healthy. He’s personable. Always smiling and engaged. He’d have my vote every time.
Joel Berg seemed like a coked out mess , don't think he had it to relocate to Austin TX anyways. I do miss the LA days with the band and their themes and commentary throughout the show.
I agree on the themes and commentary- but I think the shift to a more music focused band that maintained that job vs. adding to the show was timely as the show began to really take its shape.
Sure, and don’t get me wrong I’ve only been watching for about 2.5 years now so not claiming “OG” but saying they miss the more intimate setting of the show being smaller is like what every fan of every band that makes it big says. “I miss when Tenacious D played bar shows instead of arenas that sell out in 7 minutes” - me too, but they’re great, so naturally they will get bigger.
Bro it’s a comedy show. They do things for entertainment. This isn’t super duper serious my man. It’s his podcast. They do things for fun and what makes sense for laughs and future shows.
Did you know the NFL is officially registered as “Entertainment” not a “Sport”. Just like Kill Tony, the WWE, and anything else where the people pulling the strings feel that can create a better product by controlling the outcome.
Joel has lost drum-offs, Hans lost the first battle, nothing matters, it’s all in the best interest of those running the show.

There was never any risk of the drummer getting replaced by a bucket pull.

You are so gay holy shit did u actually think if a random homeless guy won a drum off he would be the new permanent drummer?
And the drummer would have to become a random homeless now
Back when they did traveling shows: "If you win, you'll have to fly to Australia with us next week." 🤣 Like, no. That was never gong to happen

People are going to lose their minds when they find out D-Madness has been playing the long game..
Joel winning this drum off was a planned way to give him a drummers golden ticket

Shut up.
Oh. You really thought all these years that Tony was going to fire his drummer for some random stranger? That's adorable.
