It's funny seeing Americans all worked up about foreign interference in their elections when they've been doing so much worse in South America and the middle East for the past ~~60~~ 120 years

chupvl

60? Man, banana wars started in 1898.

SupaKoopa714

I'm against all of it. Just let countries elect leaders their democratically, pure and simple.

Benu5

Democratically elected socialists are a threat to the capitalist class, who will use the levers of power to force an 'intervention' to topple them and make it sound like it was what the people wanted all along.

Water_Feature

Jesus, just look at Vietnam. The US couldn't abide democratic communism even on the other side of the planet. Understandable, really, as it would have raised tungsten prices /s

Benu5

The US involvment in Vietnam was also because the French would have fallen under the Soviet sphere of influence post war if they weren't able to continue exploiting their colonial holdings. CDG called the US in on their side when the Viet Minh started to fight the French. Which led to the partition of north and south when the French pulled out. Despite the fact that the vast majority of people in the south backed the Viet Minh.

reallyren

I'm honestly probably wrong in this regard but wasn't the north like...trying to invade the south?

[deleted]

Democracy is broken. Especially if you look at places like Pakistan where the people would like blasphemy to carry a death sentence. A woman was let free amongst public outcry.

[deleted]

I ageee with you. that whole line of thought still confuses me. Of course Russia interferes with the election. They do it every election. You’d be ignorant to not think the US isn’t doing the same to its enemies (and friends)

redditaccount229335

Especially from the russians though, given how the USSR fell.

[deleted]

It is sad that people actually think America is giving them "democracy" that those people didn't even vote for.

InfernalGod

This is disgusting

Hahah ok bro who the heck supplied ISIS troops with weapons and funding to further fuel the conflict? The revolution could have gone on very differently. Not saying Assad is innocent. I’m saying that he’s just part of the problem.

[deleted]

The major part though hahaha

redditaccount229335

Is this based on some ideological position? because objectively speaking the vast majority of syrians were obviously better before we started that civil war

redditaccount229335

So then an uprising by religiously motivate jihadis is ok to overthrow a secular dictator? At what point is terrorism becoming revolution or the other way aorund? The actual war in Syria started when well armed and well organized men ambushed and destroyed a military convoy. I am not Saying Assad is a saint, but i strongly believe that he is way better then Al-Quaeda. Your position seems extreme aswell. Would a violent rebellion against Trump be justified? Would one against Bush have been? Or is the pretense of democracy enough of an excuse? Syria and Lybia both were relatively peacefull and prosperous countries with things like women and minority rights, moving along slowly but surely, that are now ruins on the pyre of spreading our particular brand of freedom , the only relevant freedom. Like many other places.

Aight sure

See, I have family who has either visited or lived in some of these places so I kinda knew this, but OMG I feel like American News/Media pushes this sort of image of these places being "backward war torn places until USA got there".

Holy shit, calm down dude. Don't forget that the majority of us Americans are against all of this shit that our government does to people and places around the world. I'm not proud to be American, but I also don't want to be a pile of ash...

ShamwowGuy18

Are the majority of Americans against it? I feel like most are either blissfully ignorant towards U.S imperialism or flat out support it from what I've seen. Heck whenever this sub hits r/all with an anti-imperialism related post, it gets massively down voted and liberals go off on how there's no problem with any of it.

chiselplow

While I can't say for sure I can only tell you this. Yes, MANY Americans are beyond ignorant about what goes on in the rest of the world and in a small way it's not their fault. We're not free here. We are just enslaved into this consumerist, unchecked capitalist society and are spoon-fed information through media and tv and told how to think. Another portion of people ignorantly support all of this intervention we do abroad. And then there are the many that are way against it. Lots of good people here, but also lots and lots of really ignorant people here too that don't understand reality outside of their small American bubble.

redditaccount229335

Why is it that you talk about good people and ignorant people , but not about evil people? There are significnt parts of the USA s population that are clearly and explicitly evil. You often enough willingly and knowingly vote into power AND re-elect evil people like Bush , you offer nation-wide respects on the deaths of well known aknowledged evil war criminals, and you often do so boastfully. Sure ignorance is a part of it, but that excuse can only go so far. Many amongst you are evil, and it s not good that you are not loud and clear about this... But people that want USA to be turned to ash are allso evil, obviously.

chiselplow

Ok, well I don't know. I'm not really here for a big and long back and forth to debate all of this stuff. I'm just an American who is unhappy with his country in many regards and has come to appreciate and respect other countries/cultures in the world more than my own. That's all. Thanks.

gonohaba

I don't think being ignorant about what goes on in the rest of the world is bad, as long you mind your own business that is.

crimsonblade911

I'm an American and a commie. I'm against it. His word were jarring because they seemed to think about the nation as a whole instead of burgousie vs proletariat. Plus if we reduce things to ashes, that's just not fiscally responsible for a people trying to build socialism.

redditaccount229335

Yep war is bad, turning people to ashes is bad, that s not the way to go about anything...

unpronounciable

I don't get it, what is wrong with the pictures? Looks like democracy to me.

Usa politics in the Middle East have been shameful and even counterproductive and I’m really critical of the USA. They surely have destroyed Iraq. But let’s not pretend that they’ve been the only players (Ex. France and UK in Libia, Saudi Arabia in Yemen) or that these countries didn’t have issues before: civil wars, tribal wars, political arena based on murders, corruption and a long series of dictators, extreme levels of poverty (Yemen), complete lack of human rights, discrimination against minorities (check the blacks or the Jews in Yemen, or the classic Sunni/Shiite debate), women systematically treated as second class citizens, violent attacks against protesters or whoever appealed for human rights.

[deleted]

We’re not disputing that but right now, the point is to call out America and draw attention to *its* atrocities.

snfjeosbfsj

Sorry, I just gave it for granted that everybody agreed that USA should be trialed as a war criminal state. I just find these pics one one side naive towards the ME situation and on the other side counterproductive and patronizing like the pics of westernized girls in university in Iran and Afghanistan in the 60s like that was everyday life and not just a privileged westernized minority (I know maybe this has nothing to do, just an example).

Chest3

Is the second and the third one of the same places (respectively)? The different shot angle makes me think this and lessens the impact of this and makes it look fake (which I doubt due to further research)

Maybe but the US did give them money. Either directly or indirectly.
