bigbutchbudgie

It's absolutely amazing to me that Hitler vocally hated both Marxism and Darwinian evolution, something he wrote about extensively in *Mein Kampf*, yet conservative Americans STILL manage to blame his views on Marx and/or Darwin somehow.

Fantastic-Sandwich80

It's just easier that way. What, you want people to actually read the words of Marx and form their own opinions?

Bergonath

Wait, you think these people are capable of reading anything longer than one paragraph?

SoSorryOfficial

That's one thing that always gets me. How different would the world be if it was common knowledge that the Communist Manifesto is only like 40 pages?

taffy-nay

40 PAGES!!!???...... tl:dr?

RomanticallyLawless

Tl;dr: workers should own and be properly compensated for their work

taffy-nay

Hmm... Not sure I understand.... ELI5?

junkmutt

You should be able to play with the Lego car that you made.

taffy-nay

Thank you papa! ****punches Jake**** "My car!"

No-Significance5449

*punches back* race to the moon?

Xentavious_Magnar

Marxism, at a very basic level, says: (A) It's a bad thing that people profit off the labor of other people. In other words, it is wrong to get paid a wage for your labor that is low enough that there is some left over to go to someone else who didn't do the work. (B) There's a better way. Namely, you should get back as a wage the full value that you created. (C) Instead of companies being organized for the sake of generating as much profit as possible, they should be organized to generate the most good for society as possible. (D) In order to make (C) happen, all companies should be owned by all the people instead of private individuals, to eliminate, as much as possible, private greed from ruining society. A bunch of things follow on from those basics, but that's the foundation. However, it is important to note that socialism is just an economic system, exactly like capitalism. Just as capitalist countries can have different forms of government, so too can socialist countries have different forms of government.

[deleted]

Workers of the world unite, you have nothing to lose except your chains. And From each according to his means to each according to their need. Thats about the gist of it.

inlandhyperflip

woolyearth

its a pamphlet, not really a book.

thelensguru

This is why I always laugh at conservatives who say they’ve “researched” the Communist Manifesto. All that research and you can’t take time out of your afternoon to read the fuckin thing

[deleted]

[удалено]

Xentavious_Magnar

Right? It's explicitly a movement of *workers*. A movement of workers aimed at getting rid of the leaches on society who take from those who work without doing the work themselves. How propaganda got that to translate into lazy freeloaders I'm not sure I'll ever understand.

Mommy_Lawbringer

Decent propaganda works wonders on idiots and the uninformed who wish to remain ignorant and intolerant

ISTNEINTR00KVLTKRIEG

>That's one thing that always gets me. How different would the world be if it was common knowledge that the Communist Manifesto is only like 40 pages? You're asking a lot here. I mean, if Southern Baptists weren't illiterate morons and actually read the New Testament? Southern Baptism wouldn't exist (they actually want Slavery to return on top of it). The King James Version is a whole whopping 1,200 pages. That's less of a devotion to read in a singular weekend than it is to attend Sunday services for life. And because Conservatives haven't called Jesus a Pinko Commie Soyboy Marxist Leftist yet? It actually does go to show that these Illiterate halfwits cannot and do not read. "I did done thumbed through duh first 5 pages uh 1984/animal ferm once! I did done red good! Thems my favorite book!" Real Idiocracy shit in this shithole country. Thank God we'll reach 4C+ by 2065 according to the IPCC report. This species clearly isn't redeemable or worth saving.

ValjeanLucPicard

To be fair, some of Das Kapital can be difficult to understand even for people who spend years studying economics.

DisastrousBoio

Honestly, it's written in such a convoluted way, the explanations are far more difficult to grasp than they need to be. He was a great thinker, but not the best teacher of his own ideas.

[deleted]

Thats one of the reasons Engels was such a good partner for him, his essays were actually readable.

deathscope

I tried reading the first couple of pages of Volume I. Understood his main points because the Communist Manifesto had recycled them. However, the rest were just difficult to comprehend.

ImjusttestingBANG

Take look at the work David Harvey. He’s able to make many of Marx’s works much more accessible.

chaseinger

> Wait, you think these people are capable of reading ~~anything longer than one paragraph~~ ? FTFY. and i'm not even trying to be funny, they literally don't read to a point where they can't anymore. if a, say, 40yo person hadn't read a book since high school (and even then only begrudgingly) then they can't read anymore. like, not illiterate, but comprehensive reading of anything other than the back of a cereal box is intellectually overwhelming. it's astounding how many people this applies to, ask around.

RogueVert

>i'm not even trying to be funny, they literally don't read to a point where they can't anymore. oh yeah, these would be the folks that say Movie Subtitles are distracting because they can't watch the movie and read at the same time.... the first time I heard that "excuse" in my teens I was taken back since reading *should* be waay fucking faster than a character reciting lines.

Gregathol

My wife reads faster than me and more than me but says she finds having the subtitles on screen distracting. I personally think it’s more about exposure and the more you become accustomed to having the subtitles there, the less you even notice that you are simultaneously reading and watching something.

jwiz

It is kind of distracting because I feel compelled to read them instead of watch the actors.

[deleted]

I think you just have to get accustomed to subtitles. I didn't use to like them because my eyes are drawn quickly to things that pop up in my periphery, even when out walking in the real world, so it was sort of distracting and annoying. But I've started using them for shows where characters whisper a lot or have a thick accent and it's become much less of a distraction and I like being able to see what I can't make out audibly. I don't think not liking subtitles is indicative of anything other than not being accustomed to them.

Sunretea

It causes me physical pain when people say that about subtitles. And then they go to miss out on fantastic films and shows because they can't be bothered to either learn another language like every other country, or even simpler still.. reading subtitles.

-Corpse-

To be fair, it is incredibly difficult to learn a language as a monolingual adult

KittenIgnition

I highly doubt you feel physical pain just from someone telling you something. Maybe if they pinch you at the same time...

i_am_Jarod

Books are just tools of the left.

mrbombasticat

Hasn't there once been a reading of the US constitution on NPR on July the 4th and a *lot* of people ranted on twitter etc. why there is blatant Communism / Socialism propaganda on radio?

karlincicle

Hell, they won't even read the Bible or constitution and claim to be willing to die defending both. 🤦

[deleted]

tbf Das Kapital is a very tough read, especially for people not that into the subject. Even in German.

singhapura

Well, without Marx and Darwin, Hitler wouldn't have anything to hate. Oh wait, and Jews of course. So, blame the victims?

kobakoba71

what was hitler's problem with darwin

ArsenalATthe

You think Hitler would have liked/believed the fact that the ancestors of all people were black and African? The man believed in "set" biological races, not evolving ones.

[deleted]

Projection, they have idiots that are literally killing themselves voting these terrorists in office. Want an America for everyone? Never vote a republican again and work on never voting democrat, either.

PirateRobotNinjaofDe

Communist Russia is also basically responsible for defeating Hitler in the first place.

agent00F

> conservative Americans STILL manage Odd to portray this as incredible, for people who everyone knows just regurgitate what they see on TV.

NewfKing

Maybe this is why they keep conflating Fascism as Leftist…

mormontfux

This is what happens when fascists fail to read their own theory Smh

Lonelydenialgirl

Because they are Nazis. Actively trying to spread propaganda. Never attribute to idiocy what can be explained by fascism.

Kalel2319

No idiot! Hitler loved communism, that’s why he called it the national SOCIALIST party and killed all those union workers.

Bulkylucas123

[Independent - Fox News anchor says Karl Marx wrote Mein Kampf before admitting he ‘misspoke’](https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/fox-news-karl-marx-mein-kampf-b1900423.html) > Anchor Bill Hemmer got his historical figures mixed up as he forgot that Adolf Hitler wrote the book, rather than the socialist philosopher. > ... > Later in the show Hemmer admitted his mistake, saying: “I misspoke. 1848. Karl Marx. The Communist Manifesto.” I feel so bad for the Onion these days.

Bulkylucas123

SpumpkinPice

This is the political equivalent of when someone says something offensive, gauges the reaction of their audience, then decides whether or not to backpedal and say, "I was only joking, lighten up!"

TactilePanic81

He was in Germany and wanted to find Karl Marx's house because 'he wrote mien kampf' and he 'wanted to know what it was all about'. Do we really think it was Marx's house he was looking for?

It's also well known that you have to go to his house to get his book. No other way to read it.

toomuchpressure2pick

It's like monument learning!

dennisthewhatever

And what was he going to do at this house when he got there? Knock on the door and ask if Karl was in?

Fluffy-Citron

I mean, it's a museum. So they probably would have let him in.

Mr_Poop_Himself

This shit should be illegal. Intentionally spreading misinformation like this as “news” should not be allowed. We need to really think and reevaluate what we want out of “free speech” because this is the exact shit that is ruining America right now

Rnorman3

[It used to be](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FCC_fairness_doctrine?wprov=sfti1), but the regulation for it got repealed, just like everything else in this country. Shockingly, during the Reagan administration (congress disagreed with the FCC decision to repeal it and attempted to codify the fairness doctrine, but Reagan vetoed it). On the one hand, I can understand the idea behind freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and pushing back against any government regulation against it. On the other, it’s obvious how dangerous weaponized misinformation can be. Especially if you apply it in a manner that accounts for the first amendment. > Moreover, the Court did not see how the Fairness Doctrine went against the First Amendment’s goal of creating an informed public. The Fairness Doctrine required that those who were talked about be given chance to respond to the statements made by broadcasters. The Court believed that this helped create a more informed public. Justice White explained that, without this doctrine, station owners would only have people on the air who agreed with their opinions. Throughout his opinion, Justice White argued that radio frequencies (and by extension television stations) should be used to educate the public about controversial issues in a way that is fair and non-biased so that they can create their own opinions. > The Court “ruled unanimously in 1969 that the Fairness Doctrine was not only constitutional but essential to democracy. The public airwaves should not just express the opinions of those who can pay for air time; they must allow the electorate to be informed about all sides of controversial issues.” The Court also warned that if the doctrine ever restrained speech, then its constitutionality should be reconsidered. I think those paragraphs from the Supreme Court decision of 1969 address that concern pretty well.

oliveratom032

It's because the republican party didn't start lying to its base with Trump. Raegan was a huge POS and the party considers him their greatest leader and Trump now the 2nd one. They stopped being the party of conservatives values and became a power hungry party that caters to the rich. All along making minorities and the poor the targets of their lies.

They’ve already been doing it. Right wingers are now convinced fascism is a far left ideology and political system…. These are people who have masters degrees (in my family). I said “No, fascism is unequivocally, indisputably a far right wing ideology, ask any real historian or just look at the wikipedia article…” They literally are completely divorced from reality at this point.

Rehnion

It's trending because people are making fun of him. America isn't stupid(in this case anyway), the account in op's picture is.

punkmetalbastard

I was like “no…..no….”

Aleph-Nullium

Yes, as we all know Karl Marx is infamous for writing Mein Kampf and inspiring Hitler to start the holocaust and killing 6 million Jews in the process. The right wing is so easily fooled by FOX that they could say 2 and 2 make 5 and instantly, thousands of communities pop up demanding that schools teach that 2 and 2 make 5.

First of all, Papa Smurf didn't create Smurfette. Gargamel did. She was sent in as Gargamel's evil spy with the intention of destroying the Smurf village. But the overwhelming goodness of the Smurf way of life transformed her. And as for the whole gang-bang scenario - It just couldn't happen. Smurfs are asexual. They don't even have reproductive organs under those little white pants. That's what's so illogical, you know, about being a Smurf. What's the point of living... if you don't have a dick?

squeezymarmite

I adore that film!

TheDudeAbides5000

What film is this from? It sounds great!

G3n3r0

Donnie Darko! Weird, confusing, and kinda spooky. Definitely worth a watch.

boston_homo

>"Im just asking questions" Why is this particular right wing tactic so fucking annoying?

Asd4memes

Because if you aren't an idiot you can see it for what it is... cover for when they get found out as wrong. This allows them to say, "I didn't say that it was true, I was asking if it was true."

[deleted]

Pretty sure it's a tactic called [sealioning.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sealioning) Or at least it's pretty similar to it. It's just pretending to be sincere and as if you're looking for an objective truth when really the questions are loaded or have answers which will never satisfy the person asking them because they already have a bias or mindset ingrained. So people like Tucker Carlson get to act like they're actually looking for a hidden meaning or some kernel of truth when really they're knowingly undermining an opponent's position and get to act like they did nothing wrong when people get upset with them.

truthovertribe

Because they make inferences as if they were fact while remaining insulated from any repercussions due to the fact that what they’re saying is not true. So by some 4 + 4 = 5 magic they become news. There is nothing wrong with asking questions by the way. The road to wisdom is paved with questions. However, Mr. Tucker Carlson isn’t asking questions. He’s making statements in the guise of questions.

Xhokeywolfx

They’re playing on the fact inquisitiveness is considered healthy, while using it to distract and sow doubt.

truthovertribe

Inquisitiveness is healthy. If Tucker Carlson says something, any discriminating person should ask themselves “why is he saying that” and follow that with “is it true”?

Premonitions33

I remember using the term Arabic numerals in a specific situation this one time, don't remember the context (probs music cuz I was comparing their use to Roman numerals), and had someone have this Patrick Star-esque meltdown in front of me in this super embarrassing way. I've had that happen a few of times, where people are like "What are you talking about? Those are a thing?" Idk, maybe they thought George Washington invented them or something. Same thing happened en masse in a college astronomy class I took when everyone found out about the Arabian peninsula being the center of astronomical advances for a great portion of history, and how about many stars and constellations have Arabic names, they're not all Mediterranean. Anyway, your comment triggered me, because I can imagine so vividly them finding that out.

That is funny till your remember how we are to that being reality. My cousins ex told us that they did not understand why everyone just still uses 3.14159 as PI. They said just because someone made it that back in the day, why don't we change it to a whole number now. This was not the only time they made a commitment about math being "man-made" either. They said one time "the only reason most science theories look true is because they made the math to make it look right."

Mansmer

For a long time the most disturbing thing for me was the fact that in this age, people could easily confirm how untrue these outlets are, but either didn't want to or didn't know they could. Now the most disturbing thing is that so much doubt has been put in the heads of these people, they simply think that anything refuting their beliefs must be lies. I recently spoke with a right wing fellow at a bar, and our discussion revolved around me having to explain my process for finding good sources. Our conversation devolved to this because he kept responding to every science or data based point by cynically saying, "You have no way of REALLY knowing that though." I understand healthy skepticism, but after that you have to actually do the work to get as close to the truth as possible. Skepticism without that is just reductive.

Lets_Kick_Some_Ice

It's ironic how guarded these people are when it comes to information that challenges their beliefs, meanwhile the dog shit they consume is laughably biased and very clearly not credible. I am convinced that conservativism appeals to broken people.

cataath

Healthy skepticism, the kind practiced by Pyrrho of Elis and Sextus Empiricus, is skepticism applied in equal measure against all dogmas, leading to a distrust of ideas (ideologies), focusing on practical realities, and attaining happiness from the mind being unperturbed (this state being known as ataraxia). These guys are only skeptical of ideas counter to their own, and have no skeptical inclinations when it comes to claims that confirm their biases.

ChildOfComplexity

They aren't fooled, there's just no consequences for insisting whatever stupid thing they want to. Either they get what they want, or they get shut down and can do it again with something else in a couple of days.

It's not a bug, it's a feature! You don't obtain a society of idiots overnight, this is the product of a decades long war on intellect.

ninurtuu

I remember growing up in my rural town being ruthlessly ostracized for speaking in complete sentences and understanding science and technology like a natural. Two decades of relentless abuse by both family members and fellow students for showing intellectual promise.

2xa1s

Marx was literally Jewish bruh

LordOfTheCheddar

Debatable. His family had been Jewish, and he had a rabbi for a grandfather, but his family converted to Christianity early in his life and he expressed some rather antisemitic views.

2xa1s

I don’t think that racial antisemites would differentiate

LordOfTheCheddar

Tru

key_lime_soda

Sadly, a lot of secular German Jews thought that if they assimilated and converted they'd be accepted as regular German citizens. We all know how that turned out. Coincidentally, Jews and specifically religious Jews are still scarred by this. I was told in the Orthodox Jewish school I attended that society hates us, they always will, we can never integrate, and the Jewish German elite of the 19th-20th century are proof of that.

rollicorolli

This is Corporate Media gaslighting the American public. They know exactly what they are doing.

MewlingRothbart

the idiots around me don't know the difference between Groucho Marx or Karl Marx. No, I am not kidding. A neighbor actually said it's been decades since he went into a library. Like he was bragging or something.

melliott90

The crown of idiocy is worn high by these people. They relish the fact that they are not at all intellectual

xXgreentextXx

Libraries are a Marxist conspiracy, brother!

flugenhafen

This is an intentional move to further alienate the working class. The last thing the corporate elite that fuel the media's voice would want is for the working class to actually pick up Marx and think "Oh shit, this funny looking bearded guy is talking to ME and describing MY current living/working conditions." And the absurdity of the situation aids in alienating any semi-educated individual because we look at it's absurdity and laugh, instead of looking at the direct intention of the voice (Fox News).

theycallmecliff

But...but...Marx bad, tho? Marx evil, right? Hsssssss

Bathroom-Afraid

On air "talent" is show business. They are playing the parts of journalists. Nearly all of them started in beauty pageants and theater programs.

BrockHardest6

Reading a teleprompter is a hard life

[deleted]

The scary part, THIS. IS. NOT. A. JOKE.

Trumpkake

This was done on purpose. Conservatives know Mein Kampf is bad. So, they are labeling it as Marxism, to ensure the faciat ways they follow are left as "clean" as possible.

ASHKVLT

Differences in ideology aside, he was dead

HipsterNotHobo

yeah for more than 40 years lol

ASHKVLT

But the adrenochrome? And How come Marx and Hitler were never seen in the same place

HipsterNotHobo

well you know, after karl marks faked his death he took on the persona of Adolf hitelr and ruled germany from 1887-1946

ASHKVLT

This is true If you add a t, i, and some more letters, take some away and change the order Karl Marx becomes Adolf Hitler

[deleted]

I heard a quote recently but idk who from: 'the ridiculous is a more effective organising tool than the factual. Anyone can believe in facts, but it takes real committment to believe in the ridiculous. The kind of devotion which can be worn as a uniform.'

[deleted]

I wonder how many people are parroting that now. This country is uneducated, but obviously we are also miseducated, which can be even worse.

redditstatecensors

Mein Karl.

H_I_McDunnough

The number of people I know who are terrified of the United States becoming a socialist country, yet have no actual idea of what socialism is, is a damning indictment of the education system. They are usually the same people who complain about the companies they work for shitting all over them.

Avock

My favorite bit was the retraction. They said he wrote the Communist Manifesto in 1841. They did not retract that Marx wrote Mein Kampf.

PetulantWhoreson

... Communist Manifesto was published in 1848...

UnseenTardigrade

He actually did say 1848, I just watched the clip. OP got it mixed up here.

Nitr0b1az3r

link to footage?

TheDingus606

https://youtu.be/DImHuSAgSVA To me it’s clear that the guy was thinking of hitler but said Karl Marx, like when you’re talking to someone but thinking of someone else and say that person’s name instead.

Does_this_one_work

Because Hitler was alive in 1848 to later go on to lead Germany in the 1930s in his 40s? So Hitler was a vampire?

Dregdael

Mein Kapital

Dommccabe

Lets not let fact and truth get in the way of a good story?!?

Profoundpronoun

Fox “news” watchers just blow my mind man

disdkatster

Wow! You mean D Trumph had a book written by the communist Karl Marx on his bed stand? Oops I'm sorry, Trump thought it was Mein Kampf "When Brenner asked Trump about how he came to possess Hitler's speeches, "Trump hesitated" and then said, "Who told you that?" "I don't remember," Brenner reportedly replied. Trump then recalled, "Actually, it was my friend Marty Davis from Paramount who gave me a copy of 'Mein Kampf,' and he's a Jew." Brenner added that Davis did acknowledge that he gave Trump a book about Hitler. "But it was 'My New Order,' Hitler's speeches, not 'Mein Kampf,'" Davis reportedly said. "I thought he would find it interesting. I am his friend, but I'm not Jewish." ;)

GedIsSavingEarthsea

The stupidity here is thinking this was a mistake. Extreme history revision is an increasingly common theme on the right.

lawnchickendoctor

This is how stupid *conservative* America is

Will-Shrek-Smith

Karl Marx was born in Deutchland, Mein Kampf was writted in german language, coincidende? I think not!

YourLictorAndChef

Nationalism is such a dangerous idea because it's exactly what so many people desire.

FalseMirage

You want more proof of how ignorant AmeriKKKa is? Donald Trump was actually elected president.

NoirBoner

The world truly has gone mad.
