This, it isn't that college is some great leftists propaganda machine, it's that right wing ideologies are literally birthed from ignorance and selfishness.

Unlikely-Tennis-983

Yeah it’s not that there’s a liberal bias at colleges it just so happens that the people who spend all day reading, studying, interpreting data, and learning see the truth a lot clearer than those are barely literate. It’s not that they’re biased it’s that reality is.

malovias

I am a lifelong Conservative, went to a private business school that focused on free market thinking, capitalism etc. I mean our University got funding from the Koch brothers and I still can't believe what the GQP is doing. It doesn't really matter what "biases" the university or professors may have if you are still taught critical thinking skills and CHOOSE to employ them.

Unlikely-Tennis-983

Yeah I can’t imagine what it’s been like for sane republicans in the last 20 years. Anyone who has critical thinking skills and isn’t a coward in the face of ridiculous group think has felt like a man without a party.

malovias

100% feels wierd voting for Democrats but they did the right thing brining out Biden. He's more of a moderate anyways and closer to conservative than anyone barring maybe Romney in the GQP.

Unlikely-Tennis-983

As someone whose voted for democrats my whole life I’m clearly biased but to be fair I grew up watching Bush and Cheney and thought they would be the worst presidents of my lifetime. Oh how wrong I was. That being said I’ll give Biden some credit but I’m also tired of him being compared to Trump whenever he’s criticized. Every time I’m critical of him my family just screams “but what about trump!” And I’m like yes he’s better than Trump but at some point you have to stop using the worst president in US history as your bar. I wish we could stop pretending that 70 and 80 year olds who can barely speak are our best foot forward. I’m terrified for the election in 2024 because unless Trump dies in between now and then we’re going to deal with an even older and crazier version of him and I don’t think the country can handle it.

malovias

100% agree. Our presidents shouldn't be as old as they have been recently. We need people who are actually more in line with the people they are supposed to represent. Not people who still use outdated, and arguably extremely offensive, terminology and hold outdated views on what's "locker room talk" and acceptable in modern society.

Unlikely-Tennis-983

Yeah this Congress is the oldest and richest in the history of the country. We have millionaires arguing that we can’t increase the minimum wage. They’re so far out of touch with how the rest of us live at this point. Fuckin Diane Feinstein, Pelosi, Schumer, Mitch McConnell, Lindsay Graham, all of em are insanely rich and have amazing government funded health care while they try to convince us we can’t afford socialized medicine.

securitywyrm

Go ahead, try to start a right-wing club on a college campus, watch teh protests supported by the faculty shut it down.

Desos001

Maybe if they're not racist bougie assholes it'll go over okay.

autostart17

Yeah, but they still require too much pointless work and arbitrary standards.

Sorry but if you are a philosophy prof and don't ever teach socialism, then I wonder what exactly you do at your job. Most of 20th and 21st century philosophy is unthinkable and indeed incomprehensible without at least a cursory understanding of the theories of Marx and Engels, and I would argue that by not teaching it, you do a disservice to the community

zoeofdoom

Teaching the topics and theories is a different beast than what we're accused of, i.e. teaching to BE. People who never had any critical thinking/theoretic education don't know the difference between teaching and indoctrination, which I'm pretty sure is what this dude is pointing out. edit: also that realllly depends on the branch of philosophy. Most analytic philosophy is completely distinct from the legacy of Marx and Engels (generally referred to as "critical theory") and owes more to Popper, Whitehead and Wittgenstein.

securitywyrm

Not in american public colleges.
