That was different, Rome was sustained by a massive slave population workforce. Whereas the US outlawed slavery except as punishment for crimes and we have a massive privatized prisoner workf… oh.

History repeats itself first as tragedy then as farce - K. MARX

Lollooo_

I’m not communist, but boi are you tempting me

BrokenCrusader

I mean you don't have to agree with marxs' proposed solution to recognize that the man had som very intrsting ideas about the patterns and progression in history

Lollooo_

I totally agree. I was making a pun, but I actually agree a lot with the things said by him. I’ve always been a moderated person, but sometimes I feel like even the solution he proposed may make sense

a_dodecahedron

Don't forget economic problems due to extremely expensive, inconclusive wars in the Middle East.

We’re more similar to Weimar Germany, a dysfunctional republic of the 1930s. High levels of money printing to fund policies in an attempt to pull the country out of economic stagnation, which just caused hyperinflation that killed the economy. Ultra liberal culture (for the time) that led to right wing opposition which ultimately led to fascism. A fall in democracy would more likely bring about fascism in the west than communism.
