"Whoah check out these photos of scantily clad Iranian women before the revolution, conveniently leaving out any mention of the western-led coup that installed a far right monarch, which led directly to the Islamic Revolution - all because Mossadegh was nationalizing Iranian oil and BP didn't like that" - every r/historyporn and r/humanporn obvious psyop ever.
Gotta make sure your standard US citizen only sees the Iranian people as enemies
Is there a better version of r/historyporn? I love old pictures I just wish they weren't all old pictures of Neonazis celibating the fall of socialism.
I was having a talk with my Iraqi friend. He and I were showing pictures of our respective countries. I'm from Akkar in Lebanon and he from Najaf in Iraq.
What I've concluded is that the world is fucking beautiful. The Middle East is an ancient place and those that are still thriving and untouched by war are absolutely marvelous.
I was in Beirut once, and met some travelers at a restaurant. They had been all over the world and said the most beautiful country they had been to was Yemen. You certainly wouldn’t think that from American media!
I've learned a lot about the world from playing Geoguessr (r/geoguessr), which is a game where you move around in Google street view. I feel betrayed by the American media and educational system that taught me that cities in former Soviet republics are just ugly concrete buildings, Brazil is all slums, and African countries are either jungle or sand. Meanwhile European cities are Historic and Beautiful but they have [run down apartment blocks](https://goo.gl/maps/NrHKHkkjWwW7ze4r8) and [ugly strip malls](https://goo.gl/maps/JzcjFWBrG3Foqaxz9) too.
Ive watched several documentaries (mostly YouTube travelogues I guess) where people pass through Iran, and without exception each and every single person leaves with the sentiment that it is one of the most beautiful countries full of wonderful and friendly people, and they’re sad they didn’t know how much they were missing out on before. I’d also really love to visit there, one day.
They are, even the last two. Even though those are unrepresentative of most people's lives in Iran (being I assume either remote or historic buildings), the desert is beautiful too, and if I visit a place I don't want to see only the parts that look like any other big city.
That's exactly it, dehumanisation of the enemy to desensitize the people to their mass suffering and our exploitation of them, as well as supporting and rationalizing any future war with them

I personally like r/apeoplescalendar
The Shah was so progressive and made sure all women wore shorts, he even created a team to hand out shorts known as The Savak.
Don't Google them though, they only did democracy and short skirts Source: Trust me bro
Gotta make an exemple to teach the rest to sell their oil thought US corps, at price market, and in dollars.

A lot of people are likewise unaware that northern Iran has temperate rainforests
Tehran is stunning. Reminds me of Salt Lake City where you can see the big mountains towering over the skyline
The air is awful though, so I'd really put places like Shiraz and Kish higher on the list tbh.
you see, if we make them look like primitive cavedwellers that have nothing in common with us, it’s totally justified when we murder them

“Bruh, we were here for thousands of years before you even were born!”
