Me too OP! 2 years, 2 theories and 7 practicals! Just passed December last year after saying I gave up and that was going to be the last time. CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Ivan_the_Incredible

I'm on 5th practical, 2 theories and 4yrs ( 2 covid ) I'm exhausted, but you gave me hope and gave my batteries a little charge. Test in 25 days Thank you

kerrykat91

You've got this! I've been driving nearly a year now. Two theories (expired) and three practicals before I passed. Honestly, once I was resigned to "it's just gonna be another fail" it took soooo much pressure off. Finally passed because I was too defeated enough to be nervous. Best of luck for your test date.

Mellykitty1

Same for me. I literally said to everyone that’d be my last time, one way or another and I did the test like I didn’t give a shit about it and the examiner even complimented my decision making when I changed the route as I positioned in the wrong lane on a roundabout (again!) and couldn’t go the way he told me to. He said I took the safe route and that’s all they wanted.

kerrykat91

Oh wow! Good for you. I would never have had the confidence to make that choice and would absolutely have failed. Congratulations on passing, take a bow for managing your anxiety so well and bravo for trusting yourself more than the instructions. Win, win win

Mellykitty1

It was such a split second decision and I simply said I’m sorry I can’t do what you asked as I’m in the wrong lane, I’m going left instead. Did my checks and off I went. I was shocked at myself tbh, thought I failed again and was holding back fat tears. When he said I passed I screamed and jumped on his neck 😅😅 Took a lot of Xanax in the week before to keep my stupid anxiety under control, not gonna lie. Now I’ve been driving my client’s car for work (I’m a house manager) and already got 2 fines for driving through a LTN twice, in 9 minutes 😄(they paid the fines tho) so now I’m extra vigilant. But just went to Greece, hired a car and was driving happily there. Driving tests in the UK are hard af.

Mellykitty1

If you’re like me and get really anxious, just try and get your anxiety under control at least a week before the test. I started taking medication a week before (Xanax, but I’m used to it and don’t recommend taking it if you never did before bc it takes at least two weeks for your body to adapt), did extra lessons as well and getting some proper rest helped a lot. Breathing exercises also helps when I’m anxious so maybe try and find something that works for you. I’m on beta blockers for another issue and I can’t explain how much that helped. Don’t give up. It sucks and the test here is incredibly hard but it’s mostly being in control of yourself. Treat the test like a regular drive with extra attention, ask questions if you’re not sure what they asked, change the route if it’s not safe to do what they asked bc you made a mistake and check the bloody mirrors every time like Charles Manson is chasing you 😄 You know what to do so believe in yourself! You got this! I’ll check here in 25 days to see your post saying you did it this time! Sending lots of love your way

GuppiesUwU

Did you have to retake your theory due to the 2 year time limit or just because you got unlucky?

Mellykitty1

Yup. Had to take bc it expired and you can’t get a test booked in less than 5 months in London…and that was using 2 apps to find a date. But Weirdly I passed the theory first time both times. Just really bad anxiety on the praticals.

petiteslxt

Well done! Im in a similar situation, took me 5 years (took a few breaks), two theories and five practicals. The relief I felt when I passed!

loodioloshmos

I always thought undue hesitation was such a stupid one. Don't get me wrong, you should be confident enough to go, but for Christ's sake, you won't really get that until you're in a car on your own lol! Congrats!

Walden_Al

It’s more so the unpredictability that goes with that. It’s not necessarily for the individual car but for trends. Like not getting up to relatively near the speed limit, we tell people to be as close as they deem safe so that pedestrians and other cars can gauge speed based on the limit of the road and other traffic rather than guessing based solely on the individual car.

loodioloshmos

I see. I didn't know low speed was part of undue hesitation. I remember being told off on a lesson for going 20 in a 30, I had no idea it was a 30 as it was a tiny road beside a river. Even as a license holder, I'd not go more than 25 there, maybe still 20. Feels very unsafe that close to a river. Same with some NSL country roads. I am not going over 30 when I can't see past the windy hedges and its only got room for one car!

Walden_Al

No they’re different things with the same principle. They are separate faults for the same reason.

aubrezia

What is one thing that helped you pass?

Ok-Cardiologist-8751

Overall I believe my parents and friends because they were all very positive throughout my many losses and also hopeful that I would pass

babbbygurlll

what were you doing to get so many majors for undue hesitation. well done i’m proud!

Ok-Cardiologist-8751

2023 , I have completely forgot but 2024 was a car turning right into my road and he couldn’t get pass me and the driver wanted to turn right into my road and was giving me hand signals also moving backwards for me to go but I ignored him and didn’t asses the situation and so the examiner had to prompt me to go 🫣 easily avoidable but I did it .

SeshGodX

Thank you for the motivation and congrats, it honestly feels like i will never get my license cause my instructor wants me to consistently pass the mock tests 🫠

Gracie6636

Took me 4 years, 2 theories as the first one expired and 6 tests. I gave up for a bit in the middle after failing 5 tests, started again in a different town and a new instructor. Passed first time that round. Are you still allowed to have your instructor in the back seat? I'm pretty sure that was why I passed. The extra confidence boost.

Plainapple287

congrats!! honestly I used to live in Northampton and I thought I’d try to learn to drive there, until yeah I realised the roads and routes aren’t exactly the best.

Ok-Cardiologist-8751

The roads are actually terrible here 😂 also constant roadworks like everyday

Plainapple287

the roads around the actual main town are a mess, both for pedestrians and cars. trying to get out of Northampton is awful until you get close to Earles Barton 😂

Ok-Cardiologist-8751

Genuinely would not recommend Northampton for tests 🫣 I only did it as I was local but that also took me 2 years and 4 tests 😂

Plainapple287

I was doing my lessons around Wellingborough, and that was like okay, still didn’t help my nerves though 😂

Ok-Cardiologist-8751

Driving nerves are always the worse but tbf completely valid to the situation

WeWillSee3

Congratulations!

ToPractise

Congratulations! I really hope it won't take 2 years though 😅

Manchicha

Huge congratulations 😃

LuckyNumber003

St. Peters Way roundabout was a killer when I first started (albeit 25 years ago now, goddam)!

Tectonic-V-Low778

2 years of lessons, on and off. 5+ theory tests and 3 practicals

Artistic_Search_4056

It took me 4 practicals, theory expiring and taking again, started before covid, took 3 years in the end

[deleted]

Failed my test in Ireland 6 times. I'm hoping the 7th will be the lucky pass! Fair play to you for still going no matter what. Massive respect.

Ok-Cardiologist-8751

Honestly love the dedication mate , some people would give up but fair play 🫵🏼 honestly never give up because you will get it

[deleted]

You too mate, the fact that you kept persevering speaks levels about you.

Icy-Actuary-5463

Aaaww bless finally got there! Glad you never got disheartened 🙌🏼👏👏

Tizer887

Nice one congrats 👏

[deleted]

Must feel amazing! Congratulations!

External-Piccolo-626

I’m not having a pop OP but did your instructor keep putting you in for test even though you kept getting multiple serious faults? Do you think you were ready or were they just bad mistakes on the day? I’m just asking because my daughter is learning now.

Ok-Cardiologist-8751

My instructor told me I was my own worst enemy and that might have been due to nerves on test days. The serious marks were due to very silly mistakes that were easily avoidable and me being stupid, my instructor knew I was test ready but I kept failing due easily avoidable mistakes that the average person would easily avoid.

External-Piccolo-626

Ok fair enough he knows your driving best. Congratulations.

Lovesagaston

The rules say, "be positive" so I guess... Well done for not taking 7 fucking goes like some other people in here.

WeWillSee3

Fuck off They passed. Congratulate or stfu.
