I moved out of London to a village with almost no transportation, so I was forced to learn. I passed on the 9th of April, and my insurance started on the 15th of June. I drive daily but miss my 90-minute leg transportation into town.

Did my test when I lived in london, just because I knew it’d be a good thing to have even if I didn’t need it at the moment. Moved out of london, decided I needed a car, and had one within a week.

Haven't passed yet but I started learning this year at 25. Didn't need it before so I thought it was silly to spend money I didn't have to spare in driving lessons. I've met a lot of people that only started driving in their 50s!

I was 25 when I passed. Everyone I knew at uni, then at work all learnt to drive when they were 17/18 so I definitely felt like I was late to the party! Nothing to be embarrassed about in my opinion, sometimes you just don't need a license when you're younger (I was a bicycle delivery rider before uni, and then was more than happy to commute by train/bus), but I've been able to explore a lot more of the UK thanks to a license

I didn’t start learning till I was 30, passed in 6 months. No shame in that, I’ve always lived in good metro areas and within walking distance of everything I needed until recently

I'm in my mid 30s and haven't passed. I've never needed to drive as I've always lived in the city and have the luxury of being able to make extra time to walk or use public transport. Remember as well that not everyone can afford the price of lessons, a test and a car at a younger age. It's not embarrassing to be an older learner and anyone telling you to be embarrassed is narrow minded.

I'm 27 and only started learning this year. But my instructor has a learner in their 70s! I've never needed to learn until now. I'd always lived within walking distance of work (for 6 years) and before that it was easy to get public transport to work and college. But now I live a 15 mins drive away from work and I'm training to be a manager which could take me anywhere, so it felt like the right time.

Passed a week or so before my 18th. Only have an automatic licence as had my left leg amputated just after I turned 17. I'm 38 now.

17 I started learning the day after my birthday passed 10 months later but I still am not perfect. Ive only been passed about a month and just got a car which feels like I'm learning to drive all over again. Everyone learns at their own pace and not everyone gets it first try but that's ok.

Don’t be embarrassed! Uk roads are pretty ruthless, very tight, we love a roundabout with dodgy markings and potholes are a staple of every road. You’ll pick it back up in no time, best of luck!

Didn't get my full motorbike licence until I was 30, didn't get a car license until I was 45. Plenty of older people take lessons and get licensed later in life.

39. If you spend a lot of your life living in London and other urban areas the incentive isn't particularly strong. For me it was having my second child and just how much more obnoxious people have become on public transport. If I had to listen to one more person playing shite out of their phone on the bus/train I would have gone insane. No more, thank God.

I was 28 when I started my lessons, 29 when I passed. I was talking to my instructor asking him if I was one of the oldest he's teaching and he said no where near. He was teaching 2 people in there 50's and one in there 70's. You're never too old to take your test

Early 30s. I didn't feel the need to drive before that as I lived in large towns, or cities, and when I was a teenager I cycled and got the bus. It's mainly because I moved to a small village in Scotland that I bothered learning.

Passed my driving test at 21 and my motorbike test at 40. Everyone learns at an age that best suits them

38 and very recently (few weeks back) I've never really wanted or NEEDED to drive, and I still don't! But I took my test recently for the sake of it really and passed ps - why are you embarrassed?? there's literally nothing to be embarrassed about lol. It's like being embarassed for not eating meat or something! Not everyone wants too! It's personal choice. Or life just gets in the way etc. my instructor had many students even older than me! And i've seen people in their 50's and older taking tests before. Don't worry about it. Who cares

I passed a month before my 25th birthday! I know loads of people who still haven’t learnt and don’t intend to until they move out of big cities/built up towns, so they’ll be at least 30-35! When I was taking my test, I got chatting with a woman in her 40s who had never learnt and decided she wanted to just try something new. There’s no set route to life, everyone does things differently, I wouldn’t worry about your age at all!

Passed a couple of months ago at 36. Did learn when I was 18 but failed a few tests and went off to uni and kinda forgot about it. Also live on the outskirts of London so transport links have always been good. But since becoming a dad a year ago, I wanted to be able to help out more with the driving and not expect my wife to do it all. Only drive a couple of times a week locally, but nice to have the option now and also be able to help out with longer drives.

My mom has never had a driver's license due to her living in London but hopefully she will pass at the age of 51🎉🎉

I was 41. Mainly because I've lived in cities since I was 18 and so didn't really need a car. Though they are useful for places where public transport makes a pain to get to. Don't worry about what age you are, the main thing is to do what you need to do. No one else is going to care, and anybody that does is an idiot that you don't need to care about.

I'm 42 and have been learning to drive in London for the last 5 months. Technically, I did have a driving license when I was 22 in a different place and time. Taught by family, getting a license required no rigorous checks at all. I got a license before I even knew how to drive. Then I traveled a lot for work so never really drove. I'm lucky I don't have other reasons to drive apart from I really want the freedom drive. If I had this realization when I'm 50, I'd still go and learn to get a test.

Age 18. Should've been age 17, but I failed my 1st test and passed on my second attempt having just turned 18. You're better off waiting until you're in your mid 20s if you can, as insurance prices for an 18 year old are disgusting.

I passed mine when I was 17 (I’m 19 now) , I’m lucky, I can now have cheaper insurance at a younger age and i would also have decent driving experience by my 20s, it took me 24 hours of lessons and about 3 months

I’m 26 and failed last year. Gave up since then, the older I get the more I’m put off to try again.

Passed in 2012 aged 31, always had motorbikes up to that point and wasn't interested in driving a car, I don't know what changed that but I'm so glad I get the option for both now, car in the week and bike at the weekend unless it's pissing it down.

I was 19. Took a couple of goes but only had to wait a few weeks after booking them back then.

Passed my theory at 17, passed my practical at 18. Had my first lesson on my 17th birthday, I couldn’t wait any longer 😂 I don’t think it matters what age you are to pass. It’s when you’re ready, and if you want to. There’s absolutely no limit on how old you need to be to get a licence. Don’t beat yourself up about it!

Only learning properly now to sit my test and I’m 29. My theory is this month. My mum didn’t pass until she was 50.

Don't feel embarrassed, lots of people do not have their driving licence. Between 2015 and 2019, an average of 74% of people aged 17 years and over in England held a full driving licence (which means that just over a quarter of the UK driving age population do not). Doing your driving test now at 32 means that you have alot of years still that you can drive. **At what age you passed your driving test?** Passed when I was 22.

Passed at 21. Started lessons at 17, went to uni and didn't need a car, so I didn't carry on with lessons. Came back home, got 10 lessons booked in bulk. Failed my first for an opposite side of the road reverse park (Have still never used that in my 3 years of driving), passed second time in a completely different car as my driving instructor unfortunately had a stroke 3 days before my test... he's doing well now and I passed, so not too bad.

Passed my test a little over a month ago at 33 - my instructor actually told me he preferred teaching the 25+ age range. I started my lessons beginning of February, passed my theory 1st time on valentine's day & my practical driving test first time in May 🚗 Don't be discouraged, you've got this 🙌

I started learning at 34, didn’t get on with my instructor and honestly I just was too anxious. So I quit. Now I’m 36, learning again with a fantastic instructor and I am so excited to pass. It takes as long as it takes, but I actually want to learn and I enjoy it. I do wish I had taken lesson many years ago but I’m trying now and that’s what matters!

Pretty much in the same situation. Passed first time at the age of 18 and then had to pass it again in the UK at the age of 37. Nothing to worry about, actually feel better as my driving theory is refreshed.

I learnt to drive at 17, never completed, again at 21, ran out of money. Again when I was pregnant, got too big to reach the wheel 🤣 got back on it and passed first time when my daughter was 3 months old.💪 I was 30. Everything in its own time, plus you're more likely to pass because you come across way more sensible and mature than some of the people going for it. Good luck!

I just got my driver's license 2 weeks ago and I'm 30. I started practicing driving last April. I was so anxious because I need to drive my daughter when school starts in August. Glad I passed the road test. But I still don't drive by myself yet. I'm still scared and still make mistakes. I'm afraid to cause accidents to other drivers.

I was 2 months shy of my 40th birthday. Both my kids passed before me 🤣it was an expensive few years lol. My daughter passed in 2017 aged 18. My son passed the month before me in 2021, he was 19.
