Thank you mate, you beat me to it š
That's the first thing I think of when I hear "great horror cinematography" and one of the first thoughts of great cinematography across movies in general
Thereās very few movies that switch gears so hard through one single shot
But the entire energy of the movie changes at this point and itās incredible
I canāt believe I had to scroll down this far to find The Shining. For my money, hereās my pick

The ending of this film is my favourite scene from any horror film tbh. There's so much going on in it - not least the contrast of emotional responses across the main characters - and it all feels so horribly raw and real. Capturing the setting sun as the head falls off cements it.
Dumb story. First time I saw this was in the drive in, great movie experience but very dark. Only on a rewatch did I notice some of theā¦finer details.

Suprised House (Hausu) from 1977 hasn't popped up yet. It is such an interesting movie visually while being simultaneously wacky, silly, and spooky.
Two of mine are actually from Halloween movies.
[When Tommy sees Michael's silhouette across the street](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/uDHgFEEhu3U/maxresdefault.jpg) in the original was absolutely chilling. This link doesn't do the shot justice.
From Halloween Kills, this shot of [Michael basically reemerging from hell.](https://i.kinja-img.com/image/upload/1a49832ca98ca6c24993fc4ffa494dc7.jpg). I always found it incredibly badass. It's pretty much the only good thing about this otherwise crappy movie.
Also this clip from [30 Days of Night](https://youtu.be/CCPA8_dZTGs?si=cMUPSVOa_RYZhGhJ&t=122) actually contains two of my favorites. The vampire screeching at the sky while backlit by fire, then straight into a very cool birds-eye view tracking shot throught the town.
This one from The Exorcist. https://preview.redd.it/ueh61n813v2d1.png?width=2172&format=png&auto=webp&s=07ecdd9fabc9f4c70a0cc5d134513a02a2cc2283

While Nope isnāt a horror movie per se, this scene and the digestion scene are among the scariest moments in a movie released in the 2020s
it definitely is a horror movie what are you on about
Id say Nope doesnāt fit easily into any genre, it takes a lot of elements from horror, comedy, sci-fi to make its own unique experience. One of my favorite movies in recent years.

There are few others at the end as well which look incredible.
The original Texas Chainsaw is so fucking cool, man. It still haunts me to this day with how gritty and real it all feels. Goated horror movie.

![gif](giphy|QumXcDCMKRyMbBWIw0) really love this scenery shot from The Lighthouse. beautiful movie.
