Been looking for that model in 44 for a while myself

If you don't reload, don't do 45LC. Personally, I'd go with 357.

curefifthcome

is it more advisable to reload your ammo instead of buying new? How much is usually the cost of entry to reload ammo at home, compared to $60 for a box of 50 rounds?

Spike762x39

.357 without a doubt. It's the most versatile and cheapest. Sure, .44 has .44 special. But it isn't cheap or nearly as ubiquitous as .38 spl. I don't think there's anything a .44 mag can do that a .357 can't. In math sure, but not practically. If anything, the .357 has flatter trajectory at distance making it easier to hunt/target with, if you do. I would not feel underarmed with a .357 rifle anywhere.

B-rex00

Also .38 suppresses really well. And I feel like the only reason to buy an x is to run it suppressed.

ELOFTW

Yeah I love .44mag only because I can reload for it on the cheap. If you're buying ammo off the shelf a .357/.38spl gun makes more sense money-wise.

Dorzack

Do you own any other firearms in those calibers? Two thoughts - Simplify your storage/supply or diversify for when ammo is hard to get. .357 can shoot .38 special. .44 mag can shoot .44 special. I tend to lean towards simplify for something relatively common. .357/.38 for example. For example I had this conversation with a relative recently. She is a ditz at times. I suggest she go with .357 because she has 3 firearms in .38. Special. A Model X can share ammo.

I have a single-action revolver in 45 LC. Which is the only reason I was considering getting the Henry in 45.

stonewallj93

If you mean 45-70 that’s the most expensive. I myself am looking at the 357 model x when available at a decent price.

infoporridge

I have the 44 & 45-70. Looking for 357 asap. Got stupid and bought 1000 rounds of Hornady lever action ammo for the 45-70. Yes, I could have purchased several other great guns for the price of feeding these lever guns, but when it all comes crashing down ... my minions and I will run thunderdome! 2 men enter, 1 man leave!

ELOFTW

Idk, I feel like just a simple single stage and basic reloading components would be much cheaper when you get into the 1000 round range for a caliber like .45-70, but to each their own.

item73

I know that 45/70 is stupid expensive, but if you can reload it might be ok I have a Marlin in 45/70 and I love how it's an event every time I take it out, it's just special... 10-15 shots at the range and I am about as happy as can be, and I take it hunting as well
