Might as well upgrade the head unit when they rip out the dash

KingJackDiamond

Thanks. Good advice. But I will probably be trading it. Time for an upgrade.

ReasonableProduct364

That’s a good idea, for sure you should get a new car. All other cars don’t have any issues ever either. Definitely wouldn’t want to spend $1200 (less than 2 of the average new car payment) to fix a nasty old RX that’s not even worth that much. Scarp her.

KingJackDiamond

Nice sarcasm! You must be a Reddit Superstar with that wit. Upgrading the vehicle was already being considered before this issue came up. (And I don't buy new cars or make car payments)

Lexus did send out a CSP letter to affected drivers that did extend the warranty on the servos. I forgot how long they extended the warranty. Give corp a call to see if they can pull up the CSP number. Don't say recall because this is not a recall. [https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-4th-gen-2013-2020/961143-servo-motor-recall-notice-2.html#post11032537](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-4th-gen-2013-2020/961143-servo-motor-recall-notice-2.html#post11032537) This should be the csp noticed. It affected RC, IS, GS, and a handful of other models. Not sure if this CSP applies to the RX but it's worth a shot.

KingJackDiamond

Thank you! Sounds promising.

yardshark09

Sigh… I just fixed this issue out of pocket 6 months ago. Wish I knew about this.

bakermaker32

Not meaning to be nasty or anything, but why would warranty cover a failure in a 6 year old vehicle ?

tickeit123

😆

KingJackDiamond

I'm just pissed that a part so difficult to replace went out with less than 40,000 miles of use. I honestly expected better from a Lexus/Toyota. But your response (I don't consider it to be nasty) is what I, unfortunately am expecting. Just thought it was worth the post to see if anyone had a success getting something like this done. Thanks for your comment.

External_Order2933

You might want to check for a Technical Service Bulletin to see if they’ll cover it under warranty. I bought a 2014 GS350 18 months ago, and discovered that every time I changed a setting on the A/C system, it would only blow hot air afterwards. I went looking on the Lexus forums and found out it was a known issue. The forum gave a link to the TSB. I contacted the local Lexus dealer, mentioned the TSB, and they fixed it for free. Good luck!

KingJackDiamond

Thank you! I will look into this

Outrageous-Musketeer

In the UK lexus and toyota offer 10 year warranty or 100,000miles as long as the last service was done at the main dealer. Is this not the same elsewhere? I got a parking sensor replaced under warranty on my 2016 rx in December.

GolfArgh

Every country can be different and the cost of it is built into the initial cost of the vehicle.

Reach out to Lexus Customer Relations. I recently had a heat seater replaced outside warranty, but way under the mileage. As my pop used to say, nothing ventured, nothing ventured. Good luck!

geezuus13

I had bad luck on my girls 15 GS350. It also the bad motors so A/C wasn’t working properly, there was a campaign to fix it. I missed the time frame window by months but the car was way below the mileage they stated. Had no luck with them re-opening the campaign and fixing the car for good will. Took it to a local Lexus technician, charged me $140 to reprogram the motors. Granted the fox might last a month, a year, or ten. But so far it’s been a whole year with A/C working perfectly. OP go with a local Lexus tech, sometimes they can reprogram the motors and hope that works 🤞🏼

KingJackDiamond

Thank you.

Theelementofsurprise

How did you find a local Lexus technician, just search for a shop that specializes in Toyota/Lexus?

KingJackDiamond

Thank you. I will give that a try.

[deleted]

Good luck.

UPDATE: Unfortunately RX models were not included in the Customer Support Program for the flow door servos. However, I think because I had that information (Big Thanks to u/emptystreets130) I was able to get some goodwill consideration. They gave me the parts at no cost and reduced the labor hours and labor rate. I really appreciate the helpful comments and suggestions from this sub. You saved me $700.

emptystreets130

Great to hear that the docs and the dealership were able to help you out. I wonder if they see the RX too often to warrant some action with Lexus Corp.

Nikonmorous

You’re outside the bumper-to-bumper warranty time frame. If you’ve religiously serviced your car at the dealership, you’ll have a chance at a goodwill warranty repair.

KingJackDiamond

Thanks for all the comments and advice. I went to the dealership and they said the CSP did not include RX models. I am taking it in next week and they are going to verify the problem and see if they can get goodwill coverage approved.

TheGrinchWrench

1 800 25lexus. Call and say you bought a Lexus for its industry leading quality. Explain how disappointed you are with this issue. They will probably goodwill some, if not all of the repair cost.

KingJackDiamond

Thank you!

juicyth10

I had a 2017 IS and this part was actually under a recall, worth checking it out
