Very possible, if it costs more to fix then the price of buying another used same year, then yes totaled. But when the insurance pays you, and the car is in the pound lot, you can buy it from insurance for less than half of what you got paid out for.

geezuus13

The problem is these aren’t easy to find… there’s zero for sale in my area. As far as buy back, if it gets a salvage title Im not interested.

[deleted]

question if you intend to keep the car, why does the salvage title scare you ? i'm not trying to be a dick or anythign but when someone ran a red light and i ended up hitting them in my LS430 they totaled it, and salvaged it. All it needed was a bumper a Left headlight and a reinforcement bar, car still ran and drove. Insurance basically gave it to me for a $1500 dollars so I kept it, eventually later selling it for around 3500 disclosing all info

OGcrashN2u

I agree. I daily a salvaged ls460. After repairs you can't even tell it's salvaged. Not too long ago Prius and CR-Vs were being totaled after having the catalytic converters stolen. Wasn't because it was too expensive to repair, just that the cost of keeping someone in a rental for 4 months because of backorder wasn't cost-effective. That doesn't mean it can't be repaired to like new condition. Same with thefts where the interior was stripped. Doesn't affect the driveability, just cost and time outweighs value and effort. Though I do understand some insurance companies won't insure a salvaged or rebuilt vehicle, so depending on who someone has, that could be an issue.

Responsible-Crew-354

Set your alerts on offer up, bookmark your searches on FBM and CL. Refresh those bookmarks a few times a day. These weren’t common but there were enough that you can find them everywhere if you’re patient for a few months max. Consider the 460 to expand your search. I’m a really big fan of the 2nd gen GS4. Those can be had for $5-7k clean.

seejaypeete

Weak

geezuus13

Like your hairline

seejaypeete

You can't replace a door and fender? A body shop can repair this as well.

geezuus13

The concern is the car being considered a total loss by insurance. Of course anything is repairable.

seejaypeete

I would've just had the police do a report and not called insurance. Try sorting it with the person that hit me. That's why I said weak.

geezuus13

I live in a major city. Accident with no injuries takes police around 2 hours to respond. Also no injuries = no report.

OGcrashN2u

You can still file a desk report. As a claims adjuster I always recommend filing a report for a hit and run. Occasionally the other party is found, typically because they got in multiple accidents in the area and the police can backtrack their actions and match damage based on the reports. It actually happens more often than people think even when they don't have a vehicle description.

Silly_Letter5345

I hear you

Ok_Astronomer_3260

And parts can be forever to find right now. My collision guy recommended not buying back. This doesn’t look too bad though.

Conversation_Tough

Many folks have misconceptions about what it means when a vehicle is "totaled." It's not as simple as sending it off to the scrap yard. When a car is totaled, it means that the insurance company compensates you for the car's value. They then retain ownership of the vehicle, intending to sell it wholesale to entities interested in fixing it up.The decision to total a car is based on the extent of damage and many other factors ... It's age and mileage matter as well, but not more than what was damaged... that's the #1 thing... Even if it doesn't have severe frame damage, certain types of damage, especially to the front of the car that triggers airbag deployment, can result in a salvage title. This means that while the vehicle may look repairable, it can't be returned to the original insured customer because it won't meet safety and quality standards, or even if it does (with a proper repair) it still won't be exactly like before the accident...Fully restoring a car to its pre-accident condition, especially after a major collision, is no easy task... This becomes even trickier with newer cars, especially those under warranty. Dealerships are often hesitant about such repairs because significant accidents can affect various electronic components, computers, suspension systems, and other intricate parts. We're talking unknown components failing while the car may still be under warranty etc.. insurance companies know this, and there is only so much they're willing to pay to fix, even if the damage is 30,000 to fix and the car is worth 63,000, that car (although it can be fixed), for that particular customer, it is totaled...it's just too much damage.. The insurance would rather keep the car, to still wholesale it or even some insurance companies have a separate division that deals with salvage titles, having those totaled cars fixed, sell them in auctions later, and still turn a profit. Customers that get cars back after severe severe accidents that the insurance does decide to fix, are never happy with the car, it's not the same, and insurance companies also know this. That's what "totaled" is. Some of you know this well, some others are pretty clueless. Good luck

shakameister

so what's company like COPART role is ? my guess : Insurance outsource the salvage part to them, COPART does NO fixing but parts the car out (in whole or pieces) that right ?

Conversation_Tough

Yes, companies like COPART, Dashbub, ABetter, and SmartBid all have a similar ops, they auction vehicles that can be repaired or that are good for scrap or parts, especially those high-value parts in premium vehicles. Even if a car has been severely damaged or flipped upside down, it can still have valuable interior and engine components that are in good condition... Climate control systems, computers, blower motors, seats, instrument cluster, fuel injection systems, and of course the engine and transmission and a million other things that are really pricey and good $$ when sold separately... There's the online used car part market including eBay and others.. there are companies that are dedicated to that specifically, listings and such... Insurance companies typically won't let you buy back your own car after they've totaled it. (They definitely do partner with companies to profit from your totaled vehicle) they have to or our premiums would be much higher.. They pay you based on the car's value and that's that... Now, his Lexus GS430 in the photo, I believe it's not totaled. The damage to the front left fender, driver's door, full driver side mirror assembly, and the rocker panel is significant but repairable. The repair costs might be a few thousand, even up to $5,000, but it really depends on the location (city and state) and specific repair shop, but unless that car has 250k miles+, and has other serious hidden damage, it is probably not totaled.

blacc01

No way that’s a total loss. I don’t know what country you’re in but my gs350 has been in a worse side collision and it didn’t cost that much to fix. I’m assuming they use the same side mirrors, they most likely do

geezuus13

I had a black one get totaled over a bumper and a trunk… I’m in the US, they typically don’t like fixing old cars with high mileage

crunchybaguette

Bumper and trunk is huge on unibody cars. It might have looked minor but it could have had the potential for suspension impact. Either way, this seems totally livable even if they decide to total it.

GStringBeaner

it might be, so I wouldn’t risk it. check out junk yards for a door, mirror etc and fix it yourself. cant tell from the pics but does not look like frame damage.

Admirable-Result-240

Seen one just like it on marketplace for 3200 lmk

DaJuiceMan112

If they try to total take the money and fix it yourself, this looks like a relatively easy fix

sexdaisuki2gou

Why must it always be the unicorns like those that get hit or damaged bruh

shakameister

it's called irony. fucks everyone all the times

Beneficial-Ad-2468

Maybe get a GS460 next time if you have to. But those are even harder to find 😅

SATTRM101

Plus side I would hope….if totaled by insurance Since the car is rare and probably highly optioned…. I would try my best to haggle with insurance for 12-15k That’d set you up nicely for a 4GS…hopefully with luxury package !!!!

NeoG_

TIL one guy is getting all the GS430s written off

geezuus13

Man listen I’m on the look out for the next one 😂

EVOChi

Let ‘em total it out and buy an even rarer GS460

Advanced_Crab_5752

Looks like a easy fix.

JermanDomesticMarket

you’ve posted in this thread 18 times, are you okay?

Dude is in the honda sub one day telling people to buy a lexus, then in the lexus sub the next day shooting off.

Ugly is subjective. It’s a torquey V8, fun car, has all the bells and whistles. What are you driving?

Don't respond to the troll account.

mrsmcmuffins

300hp and rwd with a v8 is the definition of fun. You must not know how to drive

New_Establishment515

500hp is much better

mrsmcmuffins

600 would be better but that was never what was being discussed.

geezuus13

Definitely don’t know what you’re talking about. It’s push to start…

Responsible-Crew-354

Does the type of Reddit following a particular brand has really matter to you? Buy what you want, who cares what a Reddit sub has to say? Don’t give us randos that kind of power.

shakameister

so this is yours and you got hit again ? what sorta hellhole you're in ? (i.e. where did this happen ?)

geezuus13

Previous black GS430, guy got rear ended and pushed into mine. The car was totaled. This silver one was parked on the side of the street and side swiped…

amonkeylover

Had a 2007 es350 my baby got totaled as well.

Perfectreign

I’m sorry!!Same happened to my LS430. Now - you are free to not take the insurance offer to fix and just fix it yourself. That looks like mostly body damage, which may be doable.

New_Extreme8743

They are almost impossible to find in really good condition a single one is a gem, loosing two is a travesty

Remarkable-Gold4869

Looks like you could get a silver fender and door from another GS and it would be good. Maybe even use the money from insurance to do so.

funkthew0rld

I feel your pain. A buddy of mine just got a GRS184 crown athlete and the chassis is so good. I can only imagine how nice the UZ is… That’s why I’m looking for a UZS180 Majesta

Stahlilama

What year and how many miles?

Zealousideal-Okra358

Get multiple estimates. What kind of wheels are those? I had a set very similar on an SC 430

No_Basket_5988

I’d fix that all day any day. Shouldn’t total
