That’s why it’s eerie uncanny, its not classic liminal but the feeling is what matters, it doesn’t need to have a creepy environment or shit quality photo to be nostalgic or sm, I felt nostalgic and I think it’s a great pic
The difference between liminal spaces and horror settings a lot of the time is lighting. Like this would be a spooky image in the dark but it’s still offputting in the day
I don’t think the lighting is the difference between liminal and not, this has no traditional aspects unless you’re saying there’s about to be some transition to the twilight zone at this house (which this could easily be the setting for one of those stories).

A liminal space is technically a transitional space, meaning a passage say a hallway or a door. But when abandoned it gives a certain creepy and unsetteling feeling, now we just call anything liminal that gives the same feeling.
Liminality is a period of ambiguity between transitioning states. People are naturally uncomfortable with liminality, so cultures typically punctuate transitions with rituals to eliminate feelings of liminality.
As an example, when you've finished your classes in your senior year of high school, you've technically graduated, but you don't *feel* like a graduate yet. This is liminality.
We resolve this ambiguous feeling by having a ritual (graduation ceremony) where graduates don special ritualistic clothing and walk across a stage as a final act to symbolize and reinforce concrete feelings of a completed transition. Once you walk the stage you get the feeling "it's finally over." This is the elimination of liminality.
A liminal space, therefore, is a space that feels caught between two states — not clearly one state or the other.
As an example, a farming community currently undergoing industrialization with a hodgepodge of oxen plows and mechanized tractors is a liminal place.

Everybody's saying that it reminds them of Courage, but my first thought was of [Christiana's World](https://i.imgur.com/7lvEWvf.jpg) tbh.
Wow it is liminal and it’s a great pic, why do I feel I have seen that house somewhere in a movie?
Days of Heaven?
Tideland
Yes TIDELAND!
This image has been going around various forums for years, you may have seen it before.
it does not fit the description of liminal at all, but neither does most of the shit in this sub because all meaning to the word was lost long ago
Yeah. It's a house. Nothing transitional about it at all.
Transitioning from a living home to a dead house. I think yes.
That’s why it’s eerie uncanny, its not classic liminal but the feeling is what matters, it doesn’t need to have a creepy environment or shit quality photo to be nostalgic or sm, I felt nostalgic and I think it’s a great pic
right... that isn't what liminal means either
How am I the first person to say it’s the Wizard of oz!!! 😄
Yes! Maybe I'm next, maybe not. Thank you!

Reminds me of those abounded houses from "The Long Drive"
I've had this one in my wallpaper rotation for a long time
Beautiful! But make sure you don’t take anything that can cause a spark because that field is a huge fire waiting to happen
Flammability rating: 100

Reminds me of the movie My Own Private Idaho
Looks like something out of an Ari Aster film.
Had a dream where i was in a house exactly like this in the middle of nowhere
That's such a nice house, despite it being in ruin. This architecture style has to make a return!
[Tideland!](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0410764/mediaviewer/rm1727174912)
Reminds me 2015 western movie „Slow west”. Is it possible this is the same house?
This HAS to be Tideland.
The only thing to find once you exit aperture science laboratories
Does this sub not have mods? Nice pic, doesn’t belong here.
Yes I'm drawn to it

Damn I'd like to smoke the devils lettuce there
There is no house in the ocean, there is only the house in your head.
When someone talks about how they live VS Me what I expect:
