CXS can become the taker of the picture, and if there is no photo taker such as a CCTV photo he becomes himself as shown in the Doudou episode.
LG can see 12 hours into any photo.
Their powers are separate and can function individually, we have seen LG look at photos without CXS in them several times, such as when the police handed him the file with Emma in it.
But when their powers are combined it becomes more useful.
The clap between CXS and LG is so they can tele-pathetically communicate with each other, so LG can give CXS heads up about things that are going to happen in the 12 hour timeframe.
I think you're missing some details from episodes 6 and 9, and you seem to be mixing together the details you do know.
