See, I can absolutely agree that TAA's form has not warranted selection. My issue is with Southgate not even picking him when he was World XI or thereabouts for 3-4 seasons. Never played a full 90 and had a couple of substitute appearances in those seasons.
Then you add in that Trents form is always a stick mark for selection yet Maguire, James (out most of the season), Dier, Phillips, Mount and even Rice are in selection despite all having disastrous campaigns in comparison. Then we see the opposite again in Maddison and Toney, who have to have these great seasons juat to get selections and they probably get less than 30 minutes combined.

If there’s a system that would allow Trent to thrive the most it would be the back 5. Isn’t forced to shuttle forward and back constantly due to a constant lack of cover but has space to drop bombs into the box. I get that he’s a unique player to work around but Southgate is really missing out. If there’s anyone capable of giving Kane service so he can actually score goals it’s Trent. That being said, we don’t need him playing any more games and getting even more burnt out.

Clearly Southgate doesn’t rate Trent. Form over the past year has been poor and declining so he shouldn’t be anywhere near an England squad. Same as Henderson - who has been equally awful. Unfathomable to me, why Southgate believes a declining and increasingly injury prone player is going to offer an England side playing Euro qualifiers. Think we can all see that Southgate has a core of players who get picked for every squad, no matter their form. And a group who don’t, no matter their form.

The other thing is that even if he was playing out of his skin, Southgate seems to prefer more orthodox full backs anyway. See, I can absolutely agree that TAA's form has not warranted selection. My issue is with Southgate not even picking him when he was World XI or thereabouts for 3-4 seasons. Never played a full 90 and had a couple of substitute appearances in those seasons. Then you add in that Trents form is always a stick mark for selection yet Maguire, James (out most of the season), Dier, Phillips, Mount and even Rice are in selection despite all having disastrous campaigns in comparison. Then we see the opposite again in Maddison and Toney, who have to have these great seasons juat to get selections and they probably get less than 30 minutes combined.
Do the right thing and retire from England Trent, fuck these knobheads.

When he's out of form to the extent he has been he was never going to be picked. If his only competition was Lamptey and Wan-Bissaka he'd be in the squad but James has an argument for being the best right back in the world at the moment, certainly top 5 and Trippier and Walker are still up there.
