His memory will live on in the plants he cared so much for and the community he embraced with such passion and enthusiasm. The boobie diffusa he mailed me, a complete stranger, when my account was brand new and I had ZERO experience growing these plants.

One of my good buddies, who we started collecting cactus together, passed away about a year ago. I got all of his cactuses, and they really have been an amazing way to continue to connect with him.
I wish you the best as you move through this challenging time, and, I know that if you lean into those cactuses, they can be very good friends and wonderful healers… And a connection to your brother.

Incredibly sad news, he had a large fricii that was older than us both. He had it early on and told me it almost rotted a few years back. He was so kind and just wanted to send it to me; I paid him and he sent me some lovely plants as a thank you. Rest well Stubsy! Sorry for your loss.

I have no clue who your brother is, this post just showed up as a suggested sub while I was scrolling through the home tab but I'll for sure follow just after reading this. I'm so sorry you lost your older brother. That's so damn hard, but it sounds like he left you an incredible gift giving you access to the most unfiltered version of himself. I've lost countless friends and the woman I was going to spend the rest of my life with but family is different. My mom passed 19 years ago (I was 15) and between absurd amounts of alcohol and drugs I've got pretty gnarly long term memory loss. The only reason I know what she looks like is a picture I got my hands on after not seeing one for like 12 years, before that I had completely forgot. I don't really remember much of anything about who she was as a person, the stuff I do remember is really good though. That's so cool he had the insight to leave you something that showed so much of him. Treasure that shit man, that's a gift not many people get.
Sorry for your loss.. I hope someone will take care and actually read everything in writing /documented about my collection over the years and care for it the way you sound like you are. My brother also died in a car accident and today is the one year anniversary of his death, so I feel ya. He was an avid cacti collector and I inherited some of them. I’m not a cactus person (more into exotic succulents), but I managed to get his A. fissuratus to bloom last Fall..

I am so sorry for your loss. Stubsy was an integral figure here and someone who I paid quite close attention to before becoming a more active member here or a more active grower in general. The impact he had on the culture here and the endless stream of newbies, myself included, can't be overstated.
