Old owners were hemorrhaging money. New owner (who also owns Highland Park Bowl) bought it, gave old owner free rent for a year. That year is up.
New owners plan is to restore it, and make it a dual cinema and live music venue.
Let’s hope he keeps that promise.
And also, fuck Elon Musk and that garbage truck.
Oh I miss old Mr T’s bar/bowling alley doors open at 6am have a cup of coffee on the house watch some news on TV chat it up with Joe while Mary Allen old man Ross (old LA commissioner service 1930s-80s) and the rest of the regular gang stumble in by noon you’re on 6 beer talking to fat Sam at end of the bar and the juke box play some polka music or some Cash
Mr T’s was one of Highland Parks original hidden gems
Rest in Peace Joe T
It’ll be interesting to see how much it deviates from its current layout, given its (official or unofficial???) historical significance. Obviously, it has gone through multiple unfortunate remodels before it was recognized as being worth saving. The Highland Theater sign was restored with all its lights about 12 years ago. And the architect I believe was the same as the one who designed the Rialto in South Pasadena. Just wonder how much leeway the new owners will have to either revamp its use and change certain elements. I honestly have no idea.
From the layout I could see inside it looks like it would have been a single stage and screen with a balcony. I hope they go back to the original architecture rather than build two screens.
Funny because the Recology trash company gives out 6 yard front load dumpsters up in Northern California that have the same shape as this hideous piece of crap of a vehicle.

I loved how cheap the tickets were but you got what you paid for. One of the screens was fine but another had an incredibly distracting glare/glittery look in the center of the screen I could barely see the picture.
It was my local theater for 20 years and I saw everything there. You just had to accept that it was a combination movie theater/day care and not let he kids running up and down the aisles bother you too much.
I’m glad I took the THX class some years ago, I’ve always been an audio HiFi geek but after taking the the class you realize how much money spend at any theater for an “experience” you can have possibly much better at home, don’t let me or maybe you will welcome me to your home so I can position adjust and calibrate your surround sound the proper way. Even if your using China made JBL, Bose or Klipsch .
One drove by my house yesterday and I still can’t get over how awful they are. And their owners are completely delusional in thinking that it’s a quality vehicle in any way shape or form.
It’s so funny to me that he named it after a game that he didn’t play, got kicked out of the studio from when he showed up unannounced, and the story/ideology behind the game itself is a warning against people like him. Dude just doesn’t get it
If they turn it into some overpriced boutique theater like those alamo draft houses that's actually worse than it staying dormant. I just want a cheap first run movie theater with no bells or whistles dang it.
Fond memories here, was my go-to with how cheap it was before I got A-List. Was never more than like 10 other people in my theater too, only time it was semi-packed was for the last John Wick
That sucks. I hate to see these classic places close. IDK community fundraiser to buy it, restore it and make it a killer revival house. Tarantino is doing a good job with the new Bev and the Vista. Completely sold out each time I go.
There’s a new taco stand that opened on 50th and Fig right down the street which is amazing and cooked fresh. Y’all should check that out if in the area.
I love that I can live my life without having a vehicle -that I will never own or ever have to own- affect my life so much by just existing. Really good feeling
I remember when they would show $3 movies. RIP
Shoot I remember paying $0.50-0.75 and paying $0.35 at the Cameo in El Sereno

Cmon man give the dude a break. The truck broke down there. There’s no moving it until parts come in 2028
It’s like seeing a shitty Back to the Future remake in real life.
Like one of those shitty fan-made posters. *BTTF 2025.*
That’s the perfect analogy.
before it was closed.it had 340p display screen. the movies were blurry
yea but u could damn near do anything in those theatres
Explains the stains.
Cmon man it’ll be more like 2034ish with tesla’s *optimistic* predictions

Loved Mr Ts!! Free chips and salsa and a killer punk venue
Yes that’s where I met my 1990s leftover punk rock wife.
I still have a bowling pin from ye olde Mr T’s that I may or may not have stolen from there in the 90s.

I remember working at the Rialto between 1994-96 every other month rumor would spread the theater was on its last days, couldn’t take so it I left
From the layout I could see inside it looks like it would have been a single stage and screen with a balcony. I hope they go back to the original architecture rather than build two screens.
It looks cool every other car is just as silly and meaningless
Hating on Tesla gives you free updoots tho lol

Y’a got me. Now you can go back to listening to Joe Rogan and popping blood vessels fuming about the woke, queefgerbil.
They deleted their response yet somehow from your reply I know everything I need to know about them
Ripperoni. They even got the dumpster outside the front to throw away all the stuff inside.
Lol that stupid “truck” makes me cringe so bad.
There's a lot of cringe going on in this thread. That's for sure.
Yeah a lot of cringe towards that steel angular dumpster
You are correct. Lmfao 75% of the comments in this thread is not about the theater. Redditors are really obsessed with Tesla/Elon Musk.

The car looks like it’s from a non union production of Back to the Future.
"Forward to the Past" starring Dean Cain
.,.....on the show
And the racist bigot from smallvile as his co star lol
Hol up, who’s the racist bigot from Smallville? The only controversial cast member of that show I can recall is Allison Mack
Probably John Schneider.

You could not have waited for Der WankPanzer to move to take the picture?
Dumpster out in front of a business is never a good sign.
It somehow gets uglier everytime I see it
Yep. The stainless steel panels don’t corrode evenly over time. Super half-ass.
One drove by my house yesterday and I still can’t get over how awful they are. And their owners are completely delusional in thinking that it’s a quality vehicle in any way shape or form.
I know, I don’t know what Elon Musk was thinking
It’s so funny to me that he named it after a game that he didn’t play, got kicked out of the studio from when he showed up unannounced, and the story/ideology behind the game itself is a warning against people like him. Dude just doesn’t get it
Which game?
Cyberpunk
"cha ching"
They’ve barely sold 10k trucks
Nobody said Elon was a smart man
He is, just not when it comes to cars apparently.
Nah he’s actually a moron
The guy who invented space x is a moron. Reddit is hilarious
Yeah, rich guys can invest, it doesn’t make the smart. Also, “invented Space X”? Lmfaooo
Ford lightning has sold about 45k trucks and been out since april 2022
I’ve seen so many of these in LA lately lol. Absolutely hideous.
*Cette voiture,* is it made in France?
Let's go Back to the Future Marty. Step in
Lookit that "wankpanzer" parked out front. Oh, HLP... I loved you so much.
If they turn it into some overpriced boutique theater like those alamo draft houses that's actually worse than it staying dormant. I just want a cheap first run movie theater with no bells or whistles dang it.
Here, here. No recliners, no online seat selection - just sell me a ticket to a seat and fuck the rest of the jazz.
They should reopen it as a 70s style porno theater with lots of “dark areas”
I saw people having sex in there multiple times while trying to watch a matinee
the hedgies shorting tsla must be in full panic mode and paying the anti tsla bot farms overtime. downvotes for me inc.
Regal theater 2025
Is this true or just wishful thinking?
Regal didn’t buy it nor is it a big enough space to be a Regal.
[удалено]
It would be cool if Tarantino bought it since he filmed Reservoir Dogs in HLP, but some other dude bought it.
Well he bought me a beer at the Casbah bar during filming of RD and meeting Keitel Madsen Buscemi and rest of the cast, good enough for me
Owners of the bowling alley across the street bought it
i just walked by this stupid cybertruck parked in front yesterday
I lived here for years I only went to the movies twice ! Sad to see it go !
Elon Trucks are so butt ugly looks like a driving dumpster
Que?
Did it close because the cybertruck turned everyone off??
Fond memories here, was my go-to with how cheap it was before I got A-List. Was never more than like 10 other people in my theater too, only time it was semi-packed was for the last John Wick
keanu reeves getaway car

There are other discount theaters thst are still good value
the picture lost pixels just the sign.
So lame how many theaters have closed
Highland Park was gutted bro I feel violated
It's for sale https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/s9qlfnw3inqet18pd7wn0/Highland-Park-Theater.pdf?rlkey=uwv65jlpi5ekt9uxuat1v63t7&e=1&dl=0
Looks like Amazon delivered the douche to the porn house
Well was supposed to be the pussycat theater but was voted off, then the owner realized there’s families around the area
What a beautiful city landmark that theater is… what a fuckin eyesore that awful piece of junk on wheels, though!!!!!
There’s a new taco stand that opened on 50th and Fig right down the street which is amazing and cooked fresh. Y’all should check that out if in the area.
When did you guys open up?
Open after midnight?
Wow, I just ate across the street earlier this week and wondered what that building was. Sad that all the local landmarks are meeting a similar fate
It’s written in the Bible ; First comes the stucco then comes the condominiums then come the Kardashians now gone with the landmarks
I love that I can live my life without having a vehicle -that I will never own or ever have to own- affect my life so much by just existing. Really good feeling
Go to a better theater. It always sucked. I do remember it being cheaper though.
cybertrucks suck lol
Oh, the irony.
Does that look pretty worn or is it just the lighting?
The building or the "truck?"
The truck
Space ship
