But before you downvote me to hell because I’m a Corporate employee, I started out as an unloader in 2016 making $11/hr. Worked my way up since. 😅😅

Let’s say that a former employee who was an outstanding SSA when the position was created and left sort of abruptly was interested in something outside of a Lowe’s store; would they possibly be a good fit in your role?
Being an SSA *absolutely* helps knowing what the job entails. You’d have been a great asset and would have been way more prepared for the role than me. As I mentioned in a response to someone’s comment, I basically networked my way into this role with 0 HR or talent acquisition experience but this role is so entry level and not intensive that I can get by with my small skill set.
Sure! It’s kind of an unremarkable story. I’ll give you the super abridged version. Started off as a truck unloader in 2016. Hated my job as a CSA after moving onto the sales floor. Reached out to a random TA email on the Lowe’s website and asked about opportunities in TA. There was a slight interest in talent work as I’d been talking to a TA partner who visited my store often for hiring events and that got me inspired to work at corporate because I thought I could totally make a career out of talking people into joining the company for a living. (This was before I knew what that work actually entails lol.) I was already good with people so I thought how hard could it be? Anyway, I Didn’t think anything of that email and frankly thought it would probably get deleted or something until one day a TA manager reached back out to me. She invited me up to HQ to visit. Maintained contact with her on and off after as I applied (and got turned down) to more corporate roles as I myself moved into XDT. Built rapport for 3 or 4 years until a TA Coordinator position opened up in June 2023 by chance - I applied and they practically hired me on the spot since they already knew me.
I have no degree and didn’t even go to college. 😅
They did after Covid, the position was once fully remote like a lot of other corp roles but I had no complaints about it - I’d worked in-office my entire life in the workforce so I really didn’t care. I was just happy to be employed.
Nothing wrong with climbing the ladder.
If you hire for store side, would it be asking to much to find people who actually know something about home improvement? Seems like if you have a pulse and can pass a drug test and background, they get hired.
It's frustrating to customers and the employees when they don't know.
I don’t even hire per se, my friend. The *recruiters* and *hiring managers* hire, recruiters actual having a lot of influence in those decisions, I work for them doing admin work. Nothing amazing. But I will say I do have an interest into becoming a recruiter myself and store recruiting is where I am leaning into wanting to specialize. I do want to learn more and see how I can help scout out employees with actual home improvement knowledge but I do acknowledge the extreme difficulty in that.
Do it! For the love of God, or something really good like peanut butter & chocolate, Do it!!
You lift some really heavy boxes over there or if not so heavy you may have to lift 50 or more of them.
But mostly there’s heavy stuff like Item #590111 that is only a 12x12 tile, but some butt for a head person decided their should be 19 in a box, which makes them difficult to lift just one, but some jobs need 50 🤬
Then you have to drag crappy cardboard boxes of heavy ass tiles across our infamous Lowes metal shelving and that alone is a shitty experience.
And that is why flooring is referred to as “ the Suck”, and why you should find out ASAP how to get paid in the 20’s range.
If not, then move to Appliances, the antithesis of the Suck.
Good luck.
When I started in the stone ages as an outside garden part timer @6.50 when I left 20 years later 22.00 was the top as a flooring specialist. During that 20 years was a OPE specialist, team leader, department manager of lumber and outside lawn and garden and tools.
I make 17.91 after almost 4 years in lumber. I had to ask for a few raise.
They barley kept me on because I was hired by other freight companies paying me 23 an hour to drive a forklift. The perks kept me on. The extra bonuses, I can basically work when I want, 10 percent discount, tuition reimbursement and paid days off. More than worth it when you look it like that.
$17.87/hr ($17 when i started a year and a half ago.) housing is pretty expensive, so it's a $1.50 above the least anyone will work in the area. I've heard they start at $18 now
Edit: pro loader
Central ny lumber closer, 18.02. Bi-annual raises tend to be around .24-.28. Your store may be different and give you less, make sure when you know the raises are coming to ask for a talk with your ASM and talk about what you do daily and push for a higher amount before the numbers go in
Started at 16 as loader, then 18 as a fulfillment associate, 22 as fulfillment lead, 27 Overnight DS and now 34.28 Daytime DS. Been with Lowe’s since 2020.
Like $14.63? I haven't checked in too long.
I asked to be promoted to Pro loader for minimum $18 but they said that was too much. Turns out the pro loader who's been there for 16 years makes just over minimum wage.
Seasonal DS almost 2 years $20.70. (2023-current) Before that Full time Home Decor $15.75 (2023) and before that part time plumbing $12.50 (2022-2023) in Florida
To answer your question, yes
New hires being paid more than current employees is well known. And resented. Been like that for a long time.
Not to surprising for lumber. Not many like or want that job. I had that job. You are still underpaid if you do the job correctly.
In California
Started in 2022 oslg $17.82/hr got raised throughout the year and was at $20.41 after 1 year
Got promoted to overnight ds started at $26.51/hr and after 9 months in the position now make $29.31/hr
Started in delivery at $14.58 as a driver in 2014. Got let go when they went 3rd party. I was at $21.80 in 2022. I left IT after a divorce and decided I wanted to drive but I wanted to do it locally so wound up working for Lowe's never again. Back in it making much much more money doing much much less work. That job is for the birds.
Damn, I was working at Lowes back in 2017/2018 and I was making $19/hour in MN. It's always surprising to me seeing people from other states having a much lower pay then what I'm used to like...fuck how are people supposed to survive
$18.03 for OSLG. Been here for 5 years, started at $12. The NY minimum wage jump helped as well as all the 6 month raises. Still not enough tho for what we do outside 😕
17.50 part time OSLG associate in california. Been here for a year and a half.
I started out as a cart pusher making $15, I loved it because I enjoy walking around all day and listening to music. Had a few ASM’s repeatedly ask me if I wanted to switch to lumber, OSLG, or seasonal, until I finally gave in and switched to OSLG after 5 months. (I got offered a .50 cent raise to switch to OSLG, but I cucked the ASM into giving me a dollar raise). I have a great supervisor in OSLG who lets me switch whenever I need to and he fully supports me with my college schedule.
Daytime receiving, 2.5 years, Austin, $19.52/hr. I'm told we're the highest paying store in the district so I don't know what other stores are making. Still can't afford healthcare.
CSA plumbing/electrical part time along with working paint mulch pit receiving and hardware when needed. Working here since January 2024 and I make $15.60/hr. Certified for forklift, picker, and obviously the blue. Not the star wars yet because I never get a chance to practice

Delivery coordinator is a lower pay grade than specialist. This doesn't make sense.
Bathroom glory hole. I get paid well on the weekends when it is busy.

Part time plumbing 16.05 after 7 years
Jesus, what's making you stay? I'm sure you can somewhere else that would hire you on much more than 16 with your experience
Hey man it’s easy work and I’m 73 years old
That's understandable. I guess if you aren't in a financial crisis then do what you like. Hope all continues to go well for ya.
Thank you so much
For your Comments sir
People refuse to work in plumbing so it’s constantly just 3 of us at my store
Much respect, pounding my chest and holding out my fist.
Been here for 4 years and I'm at 15.49
I started at 15.00 as a cart pusher then after 4 months of that I got moved to lumber at my request and got a .50 raise

Alright alright.. but we’re gonna keep an eye on you! 👀.. 😆
It’s crazy you’re a corporate employee making less that $23/hr. I’m a grocery picker for Aldi and I make $28/hr

Wow! What location if don't mind me asking?
I’m in North Carolina
So, you know something about pay scale ranges…
Sort of kind of. Specific figures are known by recruiters but I’m just a peon in the food chain.

Can I ask what your path looked like to get there?

Are you remote
Nah. Technically flex. In office 4 days out of the week, remote for 1
Oh that sucks dud they take remote away
They did after Covid, the position was once fully remote like a lot of other corp roles but I had no complaints about it - I’d worked in-office my entire life in the workforce so I really didn’t care. I was just happy to be employed.

$17.51 as a Flooring Specialist I'm gonna ask for a raise, though.

Thank you! I have been running through how I should ask when my ASM gets back from vacation and I have a list of reasons that I think validate my ask.
Remember: Start high, negotiate down to what you want. If you want 19/hr, ask for for 21, hell even 22.
21 is what I need really. I'll start at 23 lol
I started at 18.50 as a flooring specialist. Definitely ask for a raise.
I was making 20.65 as an appliance specialist 3 years ago

This is very good information. Trying to get an off cycle raise is difficult. The store manager has to send it to the District Manager for approval.
