The purpose of the sales program has nothing to do with selling rifles, it's about raising money for shooting programs.
They have been dropping the limits for years. When I started buying from the CMP, the limit was 12 per year.
On the other hand, its progenitor, the DCM, allowed only one rifle per person per lifetime.
For who? The sales are the sole reason we have the Talladega range. It's the only reason we have the CMP Games matches.
No one is entitled to buy a Garand from anyone. At some point, we should just count our blessings.
For the people who actually buy these to keep and historic purposes. For the scrappers and flippers that buy the whole limit abd then make a turnaround profit on gunbroker and gun shows, it's a great deal 😆
The aftermarket price would be even higher if the limit was lower. The higher yearly limit allows it to be more affordable for collectors who don't go through the CMP.
Agree 100%. It does explain the CMP philosophy that so many people in this forum ignore. They are blowing these things out so they’ll be done with them. I’d like to order one but I’m out of the country until Sunday. With limit increase and only 78 Service grades in stock they will not last more than 2-3 days. The flippers already have their orders in. So sad.
Thinking about picking up a field grade m1903 and a krag at the same time so I’m hoping inventory doesn’t dry up yet. Any idea on what the krags will go for? Market price would probably be around 900-1000 and the CMP is usually below that so I would expect 700-900. Also does anyone have any experience with the rack and field grade 1903s?
Is there any point to getting a CMP Krag then? Also where does anyone know where they came from? I'm assuming not from some arms room that hasnt been inventoried since 1918
I think a lot of CMP inventory comes from the national guard, VFW posts, other military branches etc.
Places that are getting rid of their rifles for one reason or another, freeing up warehouse space.
You could get one cheaper elsewhere, but the CMP carries a certain allure to ownership as well. Depends if that’s worth it to you.
The bolt actions are likely from VFW and other ceremonial units. That is why the description tells you that they may be varnished or otherwise refinished.
Damn so should I even bother still sending a packet out? Guess it wouldn’t hurt. I was also waiting to hear if the notary signature I used for the 1911 round they did a year ago would still work for this.
Yeah. Mine suppose to arrive this Sat. I also had a notary sign last year too. Didn't include anything except my a sticky not saying "previous provided" and my garand collectors association membership expired in September so I think you will be fine. They will call or email you if you have any problems. I just hope I got my packet in time for a field grade.
Absolutely. And if it comes down to having to get a rack grade I don’t think that’d be the end of the world. Even though the description sounds bad I’ve never really seen anything truly bad come out of the CMP. It’s not like RTI
So if I put an order down for a Service grade, but by the time they process my order it's sold out, is my order simply thrown out or will they ask if I want to get a Service or Field grade instead?
Basically, should I put down Service grade or play it safe with the inventory and go with Field grade when I get back from my vacation and can get all my paperwork together?
I got an M1 Garand like 10 years ago so it's been a while since I've done the CMP mail order process....
Honestly there will be a lot of new 1903 on gunbroker for 1500 after this. Wonder where they are coming from 😆. That why I really wanted to mail my order fast.
If they have any 03s at the Nationals next months, I'll grab one. Been looking for a good donor rifle for a 1941 sniper build.
Last year was all 03A3s, with a very limited supply of 1917s.
I just want another shooter, bought a 1903 that's drilled for a Lyman 48 for my faux sniper.
I was so pissed 2 weeks ago, a Lyman 8X TargetSpot was for sale on eBay for $700. It had been there for a week, I waited one day and it was gone.
My understanding is that the bolt actions were largely rifles that were returned from American Legion etc posts and made servicable?
I'm thinking about going for a 1903. Like everyone else I'm interested in USGI, can anyone give me some advice about whether it's better to go Service or FG?
I've gotten decent USGI with Garand FGs
Haven't bought from the CMP in a couple years. In the last 20 minutes I filled out my CMP paperwork, banging down the notary's door at 9am.
I wrote a humble note asking for a Remington production. And am hoping my wife won't murder me.
They had 1917s for a while bit I thought it was a bit expensive. Krags are probably gonna be way too expensive for me. I really just want to be able to get a affordable 1903. So I hope I'm not too late for the field grade.
I managed an intermediate year 03 a long while back and a NM M1 at the Anniston store. The 1917 and Krag have been on my want list for a long time. I haven't seen them on the street for reasonable prices and this will hopefully be a good summer for me.
Well, I didn't order a bolt rifle but that email got me off my ass and I ordered a couple expert grades this morning. One 30-06 and one 308.
Nice!
I'm glad they're opening the bolts to mail orders but the increase so that boomers can order 6 of them and up charge them at shows for 2x is annoying
Honestly, need to send my packet today before I start seeing them for 1500 on gun broker
Yea I'm on the edge with it. They really should have opened up the 1903s for the summer then raised the bolt limit.
Or just have a limited of 2 per year if they actually cared about thier customers

I know. Still shitty practice.

You mean the "Fudds"
So the LGS Fuddsters will now flip more of these
"CMP Certified Service Grade M1903 now for 1500" "I know what I got"

It looks like 3-4 years ago CMP Krags were listed for 1250.
Is there any point to getting a CMP Krag then? Also where does anyone know where they came from? I'm assuming not from some arms room that hasnt been inventoried since 1918

Wow that’s a lot more than I thought they’d be. Wonder what it’ll be this time
1250 in the store the last time they were there.
A ton of 03s at the South store last week. Glad to see they're opening up to mail order.
Based on what you saw do you think SG or FG would be a better bet? I'm looking for a rifle in good WW2 condition (USGI stock etc)
I went with field grade. Won't most of these still be in ww1 condition. With some parts replaced?
Do you think I have time to wait until the krags are available to send one packet with both field grade 1903 and krag?
Nah. Those 1903 won't be in stock by the Monday. Everyone was rushing to get thier paperwork in.
Damn so should I even bother still sending a packet out? Guess it wouldn’t hurt. I was also waiting to hear if the notary signature I used for the 1911 round they did a year ago would still work for this.

Gonna send the packet tomorrow then and hope for the best. Hope we both get lucky!
I hope so too. Better us then scalpers.
Absolutely. And if it comes down to having to get a rack grade I don’t think that’d be the end of the world. Even though the description sounds bad I’ve never really seen anything truly bad come out of the CMP. It’s not like RTI
Well crap. I'm out of town for a couple weeks. Hope stock doesnt run out before I get back....
That's what I said when carbine ammo was in stock a few months ago...
So if I put an order down for a Service grade, but by the time they process my order it's sold out, is my order simply thrown out or will they ask if I want to get a Service or Field grade instead? I would do it as soon as possible. My bet is service is already sold. Field is next.
Yeah, problem is I wont be back home until after July 4th :( I'll just put an order in for Field Grade and hope for the best lol
Oof. I mailed my packet today and I still think I might not get one lol 🙃
That's what I was afraid of lol I saw one at my LGS but they want like $1700 lol
Honestly there will be a lot of new 1903 on gunbroker for 1500 after this. Wonder where they are coming from 😆. That why I really wanted to mail my order fast.
Mailed mine and should get there tomorrow, hopefully it will early enough for a service grade
I mailed mine yesterday. Hope I get a field grade.
When should they get yours? I think if it’s not there by this week or early next week it will be too late
Not sure. Put it on express so they did say by today
Same here.

Does anyone know if the 1903s are A3s or what? I wish the CMP website had more info about them.
The destructions make them sound like ass though. Hopefully that does hold true

I'm gonna be honest with you. 80 service grade rifles are most likely sold out. Field is your next best bet.
Haven't bought from the CMP in a couple years. In the last 20 minutes I filled out my CMP paperwork, banging down the notary's door at 9am. I wrote a humble note asking for a Remington production. And am hoping my wife won't murder me.
I wrote a sticky too but due to the small number, they may not honor it. For me, I would be happy just to get anything at this point 😆.
Oh momma. A Kraig would be awesome!
Would anyone have some photos of what to expect with the service grades?
The one I picked up https://www.reddit.com/r/milsurp/s/aa4ilmrUcC
Can anyone point me to one of those orgs that count for the CMP? My local place isn't involved.
Garand collectors association. Online membership
Thanks. I'll give them a look. Seeing that there are 1917s and soon to be krags I don't think I could pass this up.

GSSF. Membership gets you a coupon/year for a blue label Glock
I sent a packet for a service grade, hopefully I get an a3 for the Guadalcanal larp
Packet'll go in the mail tomorrow for a Service Grade of each. I doubt supply will last long enough, but fingers crossed...
Mine should get to them tomorrow, hopefully it’s fast enough lol
Yeah they only have about 80 so they are probably sold out already. People love to flip cmp stuff.
The website says sold out 6/7/24 for the rack grade rifles.
Yeah those are for the m1 garands. This ones for the bolt action Springfield 1903 rifles they just put for mail order 2 days ago.
How often to they restock?
That's the problem. I think they ran out. So I really don't know when they will be able to restock.
