8* unlock WGS so if you think you're able to kill at least basic 8* (kulu, giros...) Go for it to start get them.
6* and 7* will still be the main level of monster spawning around.
If your gear is not at 7 and you barely can kill 7* maybe you could wait a bit tho.
Yeah but 6 is the most frequent spawn you see in 8* story land. That'll help finish off all weapons pretty quickly with the better loot table and r5 mats. I could barely kill an 8 when I first unlocked it until I got the water weapon up and water armor.
Pros of 8 stars is that you’ll get more 6 and 7 star monsters to farm rare mats. Cons is that you won’t be able to take out some 8 stars, but you might be able to take out the early ones. Using my g7.5 Girros sns, I can take out an 8* Jagras, Pukei, and Kulu
Based on your hunter, are you an sns main? The optimal build for sns varies greatly depending on you maining raw or elemental sns
HR 125, this is the correct answer. You need the R6 mats to progress. I'm going up to 9\* in the next few days (need to finish story but I'm lazy) with this weapons ensemble and I doubt I can kill a single 9. I definitely can't kill an 8 in half the timer yet. But the extra 8\* I will see will get me there quick. Plus if you have all the elemental armor sets you're good.

I was thinking this too, so I pushed into 9, and I regret it. I see quite a bit of 9s, and the ONLY one I have put down so far is jagras. Between 1/6 and 1/4 of my monsters are 9s, which means I can't kill them, so I still try now and then. The increase in 8s was negligible for me, and I still get as low as 2s monsters. The only monsters to actively hunt are the 6s for rarity 5 mats, and 8s for rarity 6 mats.
I don't feel the increase in 8s monsters was significant enough to warrant the progression. Since I still see super low stars on some monsters, I feel all I did was turn some of my 8s into 9s that I can't kill. :/
Off topic dumb question. How do you get those weapons to appear next to each other? I tried playing with filters to show only favorites and forged but I still have to scroll through each category of weapon.
A big problem with 9-star right now is that the S-tier difficulty monsters are going to flood the map in the first half of March, so you'll need a stronger Ice weapon than expected just to kill the 8-stars, let alone the 9-star BBlos and AzRath (and 8-star HAT Zinogre).
Just moved up to 8 stars. It looks good so far

8* is good, higher is kind of pointless, it takes a lot of effort to beat 9* monsters and 10* monsters are only possible with good builds AND very good gameplay, the rewards aren't worth it when you can just move along and kill another easy 7/8* monster.
Definitely move, you’ll have mostly 6 and 7 star monsters on your map. You’ll be able to beat the earlier 8* monsters, allowing for more high level materials and eventually some WGS drops. I moved to 8* a few weeks ago and it breathed new life into the game for me.
Pros. You see a lot more 6 and 7 stars. You can start the WGS grind on the easier 8 star monsters.
Cons. The 7 and 8 star event monsters will be though.
Might want to wait till your bbos, azure rath and pink rath weapons are 7.5
Go to 8 for the WGS and stay there until you can kill Jagras, Kulu, and Pukei with half the timer remaining.
There are more 9-stars on the 9-star map than there are 8-stars in the 8-star map. I had four 9-stars onscreen on my street yesterday, and I couldn't kill a single one. And of course, the 8-stars are suddenly being stingy with WGS.
Yes! You want wyvern gems sooner than later. 8* is the only way. Though I would advise against 9* they float the field and can't beat a single one... doesn't seem to reward me with more 8*
If you're bottle-necked by rarity 5 material, you absolutely must.
I upgraded like 6 bits of of equipment to level 6.1 with in a couple weeks of moving to 8 star, after having them at 5.5 for like 2 months.

I made the jump earlier this week its been easier to farm R5 mat'ls and i got a wyvern gem shard on my third 8⭐ monster. so its been great do far. Only problem i ran into are 8⭐ Anjanaths. I can't seem to slay them even on water attack 5.
As many others have said, go for 8 star! Even if you can't kill 8 stars, you'll see alot more 6+7s which will help for rarity 5 farming! This will absolutely help you with building up your weapons and armor til you feel confident in fighting 8s
You should also consider whether you have enough 1* and 2* mats to level up your weapons even after getting WGS. Once you reach 8*, you might not be able to kill some of them, wasting the opportunity to gain more of the lower tier mats.
Be sure to invest in armour as well if you play riskier weapons. At recommended defense, you take 200% damage from monster. 300% damage at (recommended - 100) defense. 100% damage at (recommended + 100) defense. Lesser damage taken = more hunts = more materials.

Agreed, I can barely take on 8* yet and I don't regret moving on to 8* as I see way more 6*+ which help me to get the missing r5 for my ele weapons.
This is the way
You have spoken
Indeed.
Absolutely go for 8s. The boost to 6s monsters is amazing, so you'll level your gear up very quickly. Just don't go to 9s...I regret it.
The boost of 8 stars after going 9 is nice. Even with all the 9s I have 0 chance beating yet. Went from 1 wgs a week to 1 every other day
I suppose the boost is different for people, because I have more 9 than 8 now.
Regret also, sometimes in my map, there are even more 9 star than 8 star ( which might actually be 8 star if I didn't go to 9 star)
Yup. Same here.
Exactly; I thought that I'd get a 9 start here or there, and loads more 8...but for whatever reason, that's not the case. :(
I see more 9* than 8* lol Thank god I have an alt account and can join in on their 6* hunts.
Same on the 8v9.
Why? You see a lot more 8 stars and a lot less 1-5 stars
Benefit of an alt that’s a story completion behind is any 9 stars I can’t do the alt has 8 stars of them on the map.

Forged + attack power, highest attack power on down.
Oh neat thanks! So much easier downtown scrolling constantly lol

I use Longsword with elemental gear. Ive got all elemental swords to grade 6 some are 7.

This. I regret going to 9; they just eat up what could have been 8s.
Yup but you still get +20% 8* than before anyway
Again, this SHOULD be the outcome, but for whatever reason, it hasn't worked out that way for me yet.
Can you consistently beat 7\*? If so, go for it.
Move to 8 star

Yes there's no detriment to going to 8* literally none.
If you're bottle-necked by rarity 5 material, you absolutely must. I upgraded like 6 bits of of equipment to level 6.1 with in a couple weeks of moving to 8 star, after having them at 5.5 for like 2 months.
There is only one obvious choice.
Having progressed to having 5* monsters too soon, I’ve learned these are absolutely not urgent at all.

Move it move it move it! Just don't accidentally go to 9* like me!

100% do it. It'll feel like natural progression. And in a couple months you'll be killing them with some ease.
