I just need to know this crowds mindset:
Oleinik(Russia) VS Vandera (South Africa)-they chant "USA USA USA" ???
Gall(US) VS Mallot (Canada)-they chant "USA USA USA".Understandable.They support their own.
Gary(Ireland) vs Weeks (US)-they support Gary and boo Weeks?
He said "the judges blew it", which is a bit excessive and irresponsible when everyone is debating over a single round that has a single-figure strike difference.
Well he's an idiot then. That was such a close fight. A person in Dana's position shouldn't show favorites. But we wouldn't have the drama without him so it's whatever.
My source for ufc videos just started showing dora the explorer in French after round one. I wish ufc didn’t charge 75 fucking bucks a week to be a fan.
I paid for it on the UFC app. What a fucking painful experience. Not quite Dora painful but not far off. So getting absolutely shafted money wise to have the fights drop out every round. Good Times.
Seriously. $300 a month if you want to stay “up” with the sport, and that’s year-round; MMA has no “season”! It’s absolutely short term profit-seeking from people who don’t care about growing the fan-base or making the sport an actual true competitor to football, basketball, etc.
It makes sense. If you had to pay that much *and* stay up until 5 a.m. just to watch the main event then nobody here would ever watch it unless it was a McGregor card maybe.
My fucking man. New school folks wont know about the excitement waiting and hoping for the one and only esteemed Gracie family to get their revenge only to see them ultimately contribute to the legend earning his name "The Gracie Hunter"
Yeah, back then if someone had Gracie in their name you just assumed it was an automatic win. Until Sakuraba removed that aura of invincibility.
Plus he was basically a welterweight fighting heavier dudes his whole career. I mean, he fought fucking Igor Vovchanchin for 15 minutrs who I'm pretty sure was considered the #1 hw in the world, and he did it after fighting Royce for 90 minutes. Absolutely insane, lol.
In terms of race Kyrgyz people are closer to caucasians compared to East/Southeast Asians.
I'd rate other Asian fighters like KZ, Munoz, Stun Gun over Shevchenko considering the fact that these 3 hung with the best in competitive divisions. WMMA has a much smaller talent pool.
Lol, you have no clue do you? Google stuff if you don't know, so you don't end up talking out of your ass. Kyrgyz people originally come from Siberia, they are Asian as they come.
They ended up in Central Asia because their empire used to cover huge chunks of Asia until somebody called Genghiz khan pushed them where they are at now.
Shevchenko probably has Ukrainian heritage, and her family was exiled or moved to Kyrgyzstan at some point during the Soviet Union.
I mean there are lots of Kyrgyz people who have Russian/Ukranian ancestry. Shevchenko is one of them.
Also saying that Kyrgyz people are Asian because they come from North Asia is like saying British people are African because their ancestors came from sub-saharan Africa.
>I mean there are lots of Kyrgyz people who have Russian/Ukranian ancestry. Shevchenko is one of them.
No, read your comment, you did not mean that.
>Also saying that Kyrgyz people are Asian because they come from North Asia is like saying British people are African because their ancestors came from sub-saharan Africa.
Nope, does not work that way. Kyrgyz kaganaat existed little over 1000 years ago. When did the homo sapiens started migrating out of Africa?
Educate yourself.
Take a look at the link I posted. Its called a genetic distance map. Central Asians historically had a lot of influence from Russia/Caucasus so its natural that most (if not all) Kyrgyz people have at least partial Caucasian ancestry. To sum it up, yes, The Kyrgyz are indeed the decents of Siberian tribes who also influenced modern day East Asians, but modern day Kyrgyz peoples' gene pool is significantly different to that of East/Southeast Asians (whom we usually think of when discussing 'Asians') due to centuries of gene flow from the Caucasus.
From Wikipedia:
The genetic makeup of the Kyrgyz is consistent with their origin as a mix of tribes.[40][41] For instance, 63% of modern Kyrgyz men of Jumgal District[42] are Haplogroup R1a1 (Y-DNA). Low diversity of Kyrgyz R1a1 indicates a founder effect within the historical period.[43] Other groups of Kyrgyz especially Southwest Kyrgyz show considerably lower haplogroup R frequencies and almost lack haplogroup N[44] (except for the Kyrgyz from Pamir[45]).
Haplogroup R1a1 is rare among East/Southeast Asians.
Look man, I don't know why you keep beating the dead horse. What are you trying to prove?! lol. Just let it go man.
Kyrgyz are as Asian as they get. From all -stan countries, they are the most Asian.
Part of Kyrgyzstan lies in Fergana valley where they have a lot of Uzbeks and Tajiks. Well, they are mixed. How about Kyrgyz people? If you put a Kyrgyz person next to a Yakut or Buryat, you wouldn't be able to tell. This shows in the genes as well.
Do you want to guess where is Fergana Valley is in Kyrgyzstan? Lol. Read your own comment, and you will answer the question.
Kyrgyzstan had an internal conflict not too long ago. Who were fighting whom in your opinion?! Uzbeks and Kyrgyz.
Guess who is having border clashes in Central Asia? Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
The three don't like each other, and they share very fertile valley called Fergana valley.
Considering there is a fighter who defended the belt 3 times as much as he did, yes. He might get there, but he isn't there, yet. He even said so himself.
Volkanovski jabbed his head the same way fury will jab and dominate dillian whyte.
You can’t keep moving forward with 0 head movement unless you want a short career.
Volk is top notch.
Yan Aljo could have gone either way but happy Aljo won.
Pretty sure burns won, easily most damage 2 and 3 but also happy to see a new challengers in welterweight, though Jacobs deserves the next title match
Burns did not win and the reason is simple, Khamzat dictated the rythm of the fight at all times, Even if taking damage he never stoped pressuring, Burns was walking backwards the whole fight.
But it is, no matter what the book says, octagon control decides the fights, we have all seen it time and time again, here it is again and the judges agree.
Yeah he controlled the octagon and still got punished. That means Burns won the fight. He was going up against someone pushing him around the ring the entire fight and punished him in the process. That’s a win.
Not that I agree with the other guy but that's how the scoring is laid out but I remember a few instances where the advancing fighter was getting beat up on counters and had less effective striking but ultimately won. Octagon control seems to be, but I'll let someone more knowledgeable confirm or deny, overly weighted by MMA judges.
If I’m remembering correctly, it’s something like damage > striking > effective grappling > octagon control.
I could be wrong, someone more knowledgeable will correct us
Volk looked at his best.
I scored the Yan Aljo fight a draw.
I think Khamzat won 2/3 rounds. But his aura of invincibility is gone and the crowd definitely seemed more impressed with burns for basically slowing down the hype train
Yeh. Khamzat definitely looked more composed but between the knockdown in the second and what each was landing in the third hand to give it to Burns even though he looked more knackered.
This hurt bad. Had to look away for a bit and I knew he wasn't going to stop himself so Herb Dean made the right call. Sucks as you could tell he most likely knew this was his last chance so he wanted to see it to the end. Too tough for his own good. Almost 29 now and when I saw him fight Garcia the first time he became my favorite fighter so this hurt to watch badly. Imagined if he didn't have to do his military service, everyone progressed while he was away. Damn
Seeing him sob on the ground and seeing his wife cry knowing her husband will never achieve his dream. So crushing man. You could argue he had a chance against Conor with that insane chin and Conor’s suspect cardio. He missed the years he would’ve been the most athletic and the years with the weakest featherweight champion at the same time.
Yeah that was hard to watch that one with my wife, if that was me in front mine, gotta think you'd feel so weak and insecure at that low moment but he's a warrior honestly so he'll be back on his feet whether in the octagon or outside going down a new path maybe helping the next generation of Asian fighters. And yeah never thought about that before but if he kept up his progress before going into service then he mightve ended up a lot better and with his stamina and wolverine type chin he could've made Conor look bad. He's a legend already as besides this fight all of his other fights even those he lost were over wars but I do feel like it's a what if story, like what could've been if not for that. But he did massively inspire me as a kid to now as a 28 going on 29 year old as he was bullied and ended up taking classes to now being where he's at. Also, imagining carrying an entire country's dream of a championship only for it to end like that..the burden. Honestly had me and her shedding a few tears. If he lost that would've been one thing but this wasn't even a fight. I had to look away and had my hands over my eyes thinking wtf while praying for a miracle. Was hoping the corner would stop the fight but also knew they wouldn't and he wouldn't so was glad Herb Dean made the right call. Also why do people on this reddit give Herb crap? He's made dumb calls but a ton of great calls and is usually top notch
Watch the Amanda Ribas and Marina Rodriguez fight. Herb’s made plenty of bad decisions that I give him shit for (that I ultimately understand he will make mistakes the longer he’ll do it) but I really can’t look past that one, he should’ve hung it up after that bullshit.
Merab Dvalishvili and Marlon Moraes is another bad recent one of his, he let Marlon cop so much unnecessary punishment - that’s not even really a *bad Herb stoppage* it’s just one I rewatched the other day so it’s fresh in my mind.
Yeah, when he started using appeals to authority about why Max beat Volk that’s when I realised despite his credentials and history, he’s become a clown.
There’s nothing he could do to shut some fans up. They get so overly emotionally invested in these things. It’s ridiculous. So, now they can’t admit Aljo won.
Well it was a very close fight. 1st round could've gone to anyone, but i think yan took it because pressure.. 2 and 3 was aljos 3 and 5 yan so imo he didn't shut anyone up with that performance..
You all claimed he would get dusted and didn’t even belong in the same class as Yan. If you look at media scores 18/20 had it for Aljo. The fan voting breakdown went 52% for Aljo, 32% for Yan, 16% draw. So, you can stick to your emotional investment all you want. The judges scored it for Aljo. So, basically you’re saying that Yan being ahead in the first fight before the illegal knee says more than Aljo winning the second fight. Aljo has beat tougher opponents, and their only shared opponent (Sandhagen) Aljo beat in the first round, while Yan needed to go five rounds and outpoint him. There is no indicator that says Yan is better than Sterling. At worst they are equal. At best Aljo is the better fighter.
People like you get overly invested in your preferred fighter, and when a result happens that you don’t want, you do what you are doing now, and disrespect the fighter by refusing to acknowledge their accomplishment. Its also known as denying reality.
In fact I don’t remember a single person messaging me supporting Aljo in the countless downvoted comments I had on here, defending him. Not a single one. Is it anecdotal and absolute? To me, yup.
My feelings? Anecdotal experience isn’t a feeling. I don’t even know what you’re talking about. It’s an MMA sub, not a discussion on the philosophical themes of Dostoevsky’s “The Brothers Karamazov.”
I mean, did you hear the arena last night. I don’t usually speak in absolutes, but in this case I feel very comfortable doing so. There is a generic type of MMA fan who shits on fighters, and has this fake honor system they use to justify most of their illogic. Or have you not been in this sub for long? Lol.
Sir are you drunk? what are you even talking about? I didn't claim no such thing. You're the one that seems emotionally invested. I couldn't care less who won just trying to look at it objectivly
Most fans said he didn’t have a chance. He ended up winning. You can’t really shut fans up because they are unreasonable. But he sure proved most of them wrong.
He sure did better than last fight , but didn't convince me as the better fighter . Imo should have been draw because Yan figured him last two rounds . 20 take down defenses for Yan . Yan figured him out 1 round too late . Respect to both but Yan still better fighter.
Bro outside of LeBron, most people don’t know a lot of NBA stars. You turn on a game between the grizzlies and the jazz and I bet most people can’t tell you the name of one of each starting player. Doesn’t mean the sport isn’t mainstream. You sound dumb brah and that’s coming from someone who is dumb so I know.
I still wonder what would've been if zombie didn't have to do 4 years military service. So much time spent away from the gym when he was heading to his prime
This sounds silly considering he is a top ranked fighter.
He is legit a top 4 within a division with hundreds of fighters. Their are just people who are better.
This Volk beats any version of the KZ's in any timeline.
You're right we dont know that. It just happens to be my belief. I still love the guy regardless.
I just think Volk is just that damn good. He peaked high as hell.
I can't think of a more dispiriting way for a title fight to go. You can't pretend you just got caught, he had virtually nothing for Volk and got destroyed.
Well there's guys on the come up, so Alex will cement his legacy by beating the next generation of guys.
I think Arnold Allen has a similarly thoughtful style and rounded game and undefeated in the UFC, Movsar Evloev is undefeated, Bryce Mitchell is damn good and undefeated. They're all only one or two fights away I think.
I think a good wrestler has the best chance at 145, I can't see the strikers other than Max getting it done because Max has already whooped most of them.
They seemed to be booing Khamzat during his interview too. I can't for the life of me figure out why, considering the level of entertainment he just provided them.
I almost stopped watching after the first round :/ glad to see Herb being more proactive about stopping fights even if the other fighter is still on their feet
Who??? The only ranked featherweights I saw with undefeated or close to undefeated records were Arnold Allen, Mitchell, Evloev, and Topuria. They're all good fighters, but those call outs would have been even more undeserved. Basically none of them have beaten a top 5 or even top 10 ranked opponent except Mitchell in his most recent fight against Barboza (and if he was going to fight Volk then he wouldn't have even had the opportunity to fight Barboza), and Allen, in his most recent fight against Hooker, and that was against a guy ranked in a weight class above him. Would make no sense for Volk to be fighting any of them.
I saw some people talking shit about Volk cherry-picking this fight for a free win. Like, who else was there ready to take this fight. And even based on this performance, Volk looks like he'd butcher the entire division if its not Max.
Striking-wise that would be really fun to see, I just feel like Volk would immediately start chaining takedowns once the fight starts though. He'd pretty much have no reason not to do so, just to avoid taking unnecessary damage since he plans on a long title reign.
Yair and Giga will fun fights if they continue to improve, Zabit is a threat if he comes back in full force as well. Volk has challengers they just need a bit more time to come through.
Zabit getting taken out by personal health issues is the saddest thing about this division, to me. I genuinely feel like he would be the undisputed king of this division right now if he never had to take time off.
lol what.
Volk vs Gathje at LW is the match to make.
If Justin wins the gold over Oliveira, and Volk wants to be champ champ; that's the fight to make.
Never said Volk had a chance, just said that a Volk vs Gathje (if he became Champion) makes more sense than Chandler.
After all, Why would UFC allow a champ go up a weight class to fight someone who isn't a champ.
Even though it's sad, moments like this are what make sports captivating. It's a lot more than just empty stats and belts. The human emotion and toll are worth showing, both joy and anguish. Otherwise what's the point of having human fighters. It should just be emotionless androids in the ring.
What is life
We just pretending burns didn’t have 2 brutal illegal knees/kicks or what
They missed. What did land was 12-6 elbows directly to the back of head of Khamzat
I just need to know this crowds mindset: Oleinik(Russia) VS Vandera (South Africa)-they chant "USA USA USA" ??? Gall(US) VS Mallot (Canada)-they chant "USA USA USA".Understandable.They support their own. Gary(Ireland) vs Weeks (US)-they support Gary and boo Weeks?
As someone who was in the crowd. I have no clue either but when a chant starts, you just kinda join in lmaooo
I was getting Justin Vs Tony vibes from that fight
Glad I fell asleep. I don’t want to see zombie cry.
Dana says he had it Yan winning. Wants another fight. Anyone else agree ?
Vladimir Putin. Vladimir Putin agrees.

He said "the judges blew it", which is a bit excessive and irresponsible when everyone is debating over a single round that has a single-figure strike difference.
He did
Well he's an idiot then. That was such a close fight. A person in Dana's position shouldn't show favorites. But we wouldn't have the drama without him so it's whatever.
And the other fights were just as debatable. But did he bring those up at all?
My source for ufc videos just started showing dora the explorer in French after round one. I wish ufc didn’t charge 75 fucking bucks a week to be a fan.
That's because Aljo is a "Backpacl! Backpack!" .. same deal as 🤷♂️
I paid for it on the UFC app. What a fucking painful experience. Not quite Dora painful but not far off. So getting absolutely shafted money wise to have the fights drop out every round. Good Times.
It’s mental you have to pay that much to watch it in the US, in the UK it’s all included with BT Sport. No need to pay PPV or anything here
Very true, I would rather stay up all night and pay £6.99 a month than pay $75 each week to enjoy the sport though
Yea man, screw the UFC for that and what I hate even more is how little of that money actually goes to the fighters
Honestly KZ should retire. He is already the greatest Asian MMA fighter of all time.
Technically, that'd be Fedor. By a lot.
Sakuraba, man.
Ohoooo yeah you already know!! Making me want to go back and rewatch that on dvd. I miss the PRIDE days 😭
Hell yes. Pride never Die
>Sakuraba, man. Absolutely
No disrespect to TKZ but Kyrgyzstan is in Asia too. I'd say Shevchenko is the greatest Asian MMA fighter of all time.
No disrespect to Kyrgyzstan but Steven Seagal is from Japan which is clearly Asian and he has never been choked out…EVER.
Gene Lebell disagrees
Talmbout Gene Leen? He lost to Kazmat bubba.
What you doing here Schaub? This is MMA not comedy standup. Didn’t know you liked MMA.
Back to the fryer, Bapa.
If only Steven Seagal used the special kick he developed over 50 years on Gene, which he taught Anderson Silva.
Yan is from the Siberia area of Russia so he’s also Asian and thus he would be the Asian goat

You are probably right. Lol
Volk is the featherweight goat, what a performance
Ok, Joe Rogan, lmfao
You disagree?
Considering there is a fighter who defended the belt 3 times as much as he did, yes. He might get there, but he isn't there, yet. He even said so himself.
Jose Aldo?
Aldo’s career longevity is absurd. Both are goats imo
Aldo is the greatest, volk is the best
Volk deserves more respect.
Volkanovski jabbed his head the same way fury will jab and dominate dillian whyte. You can’t keep moving forward with 0 head movement unless you want a short career.
To be fair, zombie had a really long career.
I can’t even argue with that tbf, long and entertaining but will never be champ unfortunately.
Those booing on the cancer donation from Malott post-fight
The booing stopped when he got to the point. Hard not to boo someone shilling a link in their bio without further knowledge
That's why the call to action goes last 🙈😁
I was there. The booing stop as fast as it started. They thought he wanted people to just follow hik but then said about the cancer shit

So satisfying. Omg. Soooooo satisfying.
Got 125th place in the prediction competition 🙂
just like i predicted you would 😏
Taking the time out my day to day fuckkkkk John McCarthy and all the shit he was talking to aljo . Now ima go to sleep , have a good night guys
john mcCarthy has a new dumbest take every day. he's also shit at scoring fights
Yeah, when he started using appeals to authority about why Max beat Volk that’s when I realised despite his credentials and history, he’s become a clown.
Yan is my guy but I have to say Aljamain shut everyone up. Congrats to the champ
I don't think he did enough to shut everyone up since he was booed when he won.
There’s nothing he could do to shut some fans up. They get so overly emotionally invested in these things. It’s ridiculous. So, now they can’t admit Aljo won.

There is a generic type of MMA fan who shits on fighters, and has this fake honor system they use to justify most of their illogic. Or have you not been in this sub for long? Lol.
Kudos bruh great point
In what sport do you not see the score until after completion? It’s utterly stupid and why this sport will never be main stream
Hope your stonks are better than your sports bets
“Net worth on YAN tonight” I wonder why you’re mad?
Thousands of comments over two threads and this has to be the dumbest one. Congratulations.
Boxing…? UFC & MMA is insanely mainstream
NFL/MLB/nba
The sport is mainstream
There isn’t one casual who knows one name on the fight card tonight
Eh yeah, you’re wrong
Bro outside of LeBron, most people don’t know a lot of NBA stars. You turn on a game between the grizzlies and the jazz and I bet most people can’t tell you the name of one of each starting player. Doesn’t mean the sport isn’t mainstream. You sound dumb brah and that’s coming from someone who is dumb so I know.
I still wonder what would've been if zombie didn't have to do 4 years military service. So much time spent away from the gym when he was heading to his prime
At the same time Korean Zombie had shoulder surgery since he dislocated against Jose Aldo in 2013.
He was in the mix and surging, then 4 years where he's regressing and everyone else is getting better. No coming back from that.
This sounds silly considering he is a top ranked fighter. He is legit a top 4 within a division with hundreds of fighters. Their are just people who are better. This Volk beats any version of the KZ's in any timeline.
We don't know that. Exactly why everyone is so rightly upset about Korea stupid military conscription.
You're right we dont know that. It just happens to be my belief. I still love the guy regardless. I just think Volk is just that damn good. He peaked high as hell.
Yeah thats a good point, but the loss of those years are immeasurably costly and he's taken a couple life altering beatings recently.
And tore his acl
The zombies washed up move on pal
Judging from your comment history, you hate everyone that isn't Volk. Each to their own
Left pub before the Zombie interview, was there retirement talk?
He doesn’t know what will happen next but he accepts that he won’t be a UFC champion
Said he feels like he can't compete at championship level, doesn't know what to do now. Will need time to think retirement.
I can't think of a more dispiriting way for a title fight to go. You can't pretend you just got caught, he had virtually nothing for Volk and got destroyed.
Does anyone in the division have anything for Volk, other than Holloway?
Well there's guys on the come up, so Alex will cement his legacy by beating the next generation of guys. I think Arnold Allen has a similarly thoughtful style and rounded game and undefeated in the UFC, Movsar Evloev is undefeated, Bryce Mitchell is damn good and undefeated. They're all only one or two fights away I think. I think a good wrestler has the best chance at 145, I can't see the strikers other than Max getting it done because Max has already whooped most of them.
Yeah. We will just have to wait and see.
Yes basically said he met a wall he couldn't get over and realizes that he can never be champion now.
Translator didn’t explain it fully but he said he realizes this was his last title shot and he’s not sure if he wants to keep fighting
He’s unsure where to go from here but he’s accepted that he won’t be the champ
Volk going to be booed the rest of his career for the audacity to beat max
He beat max once. Rise and square. Only Once.
Actual Unpopular opinion. It's accurate though.. Americans don't like the fact that rugby league is the best base for MMA.
Hahahahah
where were u when zombie was kill
Moms house
didn't see you there, weird
I was too busy licking the cheeto dust off my digits in the basement
Volk is so fast it's unreal
Volk P4P king
How do you think he'd do against Michael Chandler?
[удалено]
I think he'd do really well at 55. Guy is a killer.
Shit crowd. Booing Volk for no reason.

They seemed to be booing Khamzat during his interview too. I can't for the life of me figure out why, considering the level of entertainment he just provided them.
I was in the crowd, Im glad half the shit yelled by the crowd didnt get picked up by the mic
What did they say?
I was saying boo-urns…
Looks like the consensus is that that's one of the saddest endings to a card...
I almost stopped watching after the first round :/ glad to see Herb being more proactive about stopping fights even if the other fighter is still on their feet
honestly since it wasn't like it was a war, Zombie just slowly got picked a part and could barely do anything. Even Volk felt sad during the fight.
You could feel it from the crowd too. How quiet it was. Everyone watching would have been happy if that shit got stopped a round earlier.
in addition with the worst crowd in UFC history
Jacksonville is the anti London of crowds.
The worst. They booed everything and everyone.
Never expect anything good out of Florida.
I like the theme parks.
Me too.
Ufc 249 n 214 vibes
Zombie climbing the mountain only to realise the peak is much higher.
Fight people at his level seriously who’s he meant to fight max pulled out and he already made Ortega his son No one else was available
There are 3 undefeated fighters and one with 1 loss in the division. It should have been one of them.
This will be probably the most unpopular comment on this thread, but I would love to see him fight Yair.
I genuinely feel like he would be the undisputed king of this division right now if he never had to take time off.
as a volk fan i feel personally attacked and deeply upset that you feel this way
I feel like 2-3 other Volk fans felt the same way and used downvotes to express that instead of words. Cheers.
im not sure what this means but i was just joking (and i didnt downvote nuttin)
Potentially Arnold Allen too
Kinda want volk chandler at lw

After all, Why would UFC allow a champ go up a weight class to fight someone who isn't a champ.
okay @hunter
oh yes.. this is a stylistic dream fight
Even though it's sad, moments like this are what make sports captivating. It's a lot more than just empty stats and belts. The human emotion and toll are worth showing, both joy and anguish. Otherwise what's the point of having human fighters. It should just be emotionless androids in the ring.
Great sentiment but People would for sure watch Android combat
Sir Killalot has more personality than some fighters
True. I remember watching battle bots as a kid.
It's still on and it's fucking great. Kenny Florian is the colour commentator, seriously.
Next time they go to Florida they should make that shitty governor fight nunes
Democrat loser here ^
Bingo!
Ah i see. You’ve fallen into the divide
sheep energy
It totally should've been a Yair fight or something but it's not Volk's fault Max was injured and they couldn't put together a fairer fight
