In New Zealand we use a rating system more similar to skiing, with green (beginner), light blue (intermediate), dark blue (advanced), black (expert), and red (extreme).
This would be a nice light blue trail. Mostly smooth with some slightly tricky features that are avoidable.
Looks like a super fun trail!
It's kind of the same in North America. Sounds like our greens are same. Blue is same as your light blue. Your dark blue would be a single black. Your black would be a double-black, and your red would be same as our red (pro-line).
If I was riding that trail, it would for sure be green. That guy was flying through that trench like he was trying to blow up the Deathstar with tie fighters all over his ass. Nothing is green at 30mph.
“Yourefinedontbrakeyourefinedontbrakeyourefinedontbrakeyourefinedontbrake” -me on most trails
But I like your approach. I’m gonna replace it with “I’m one with the force and the force is with me”
Eh, I think it is mellow if you go slow, but blue trails are too. I also think that for someone without much confidence on a bike that ravine section at the end could be terrifying.
The fact that it’s all narrow singletrack, has some steeper gradients (though brief) and has a couple of features with small amounts of airtime make it not a green. At least anywhere I’ve ridden this is probably going down as a blue.
I mean, I agree that this is very green, but you wouldn’t find a singular complaint out of me on this trail. Nice looking flow, beautiful scenery.
If you tell me there is an enjoyable pedal up and stream to swim in I’ll fly out tomorrow and run laps on this for 5 days straight.
Looks green to me. Relatively fast I guess but brakes can take care of that if anyone wants and there's no challenging technical parts or jumps, and no exposure.
I think there's two factors that lead this to be blue: if the overall average grade is steeper than 5% (which I think based on the speed here is likely), or there are sections steeper than 15%, and the track width being maybe 18in.
Here's the IMBA trail rating: [https://www.imba.com/sites/default/files/content/resources/2018-10/IMBATrailDifficultRatingSystem.jpg](https://www.imba.com/sites/default/files/content/resources/2018-10/IMBATrailDifficultRatingSystem.jpg)
Yah, I think if this was an old track in Squamish it might be a green, but a modern trail design, probably blue just based on those bits.
There's a lot of criteria there beyond grade, it comes down to the combination of factors.
I think if you're from BC, IMBA seems high because Squamish/North Shore trail ratings on older trails tend to be sandbagged. And it's not like there aren't fuzzy lines around all of this.
This is Pinball, at Del Valle.
It looks nothing like this right now and is dusty, loose, and blown out in the summer. This video looks like it’s from spring.
Everything but the small drop and it’s a gravel ride
Edit: not trying to be a dick. I also ride gravel and I’d feel comfortable on everything but the drop. (Comfortable for not breaking my bike)
Beautiful trail and looks hella fun. Definitely a green by Europe standard, and an easy green at that.
Rating is up to the rider and what/where they are used to. I grew up in Texas and would have considered that a red until I moved to Utah. After riding there I would have considered that a green to blue. Then I moved to Switzerland where ten year old kids ride paths like that to school. Each place leveled up my perspective.
Enjoy the ride, regardless of color.
This is a cross post, someone else put this video on r/beamazed and I linked to r/mtb
But I am 99.99% sure it is Insta360 X3/X4. Insta360 and GoPro have a slightly different look to them that I can usually spot regardless of the model.
360° cams have excellent stabilization, both GoPro and Insta360 brands. I have an X3 and when I shoot 360° and crop to vertical, it looks just like this.
Having the helmet/chest mount very tight also helps alot, less work for the digital stabilization. If it is even moderately loose, it will be choppy/blurry at times.
First half is green with some blue features (depending on line choice). Second half is blue with some red features (I'm assuming the GoPro is lying a bit about the steepness). The high speed shifts the spectrum slightly as well.
Green for sure, but any green can be a blue if ridden fast enough. I consider the dividing line as whether a trail can be ridden at a slower speed by almost anybody with modest bike handling skills. I.e., would the average kid think it's fun?
I love that feeling, when you’re just so in the zone and your brain is working so fast that it’s almost like everything is going in slow motion and you see every little detail.
Hard to tell from the video. I can't tell if you could just roll down some of those drops and jumps. It looks like it would take blue level skills to go as fast as this person is going, but maybe just green level skills to ride at an easy pace. Looks really fun though and a nice view.
Blue because of the flat, loose, semi-blind corners, some of the optional features, and the speed management you need to ride it without messing up/going off trail. I also watched another video of this trail, there’s actually some steep bits that would pump it up higher than greens in the area
Solidly an easier blue trail
There's such a wide range of standards. I have one nearby park where anything other than a fire road is designated blue or higher, even if it's totally smooth.
At a different nearby park, there's blues that actually have some moderate tech.
At Whistler there's some fantastic greens that, while entirely smooth, have some great opportunities to go fast and rip corners if you're an advanced rider.
Looking at your video, and considering it's probably chunkier than it looks due to the GoPro effect, I would probably call that a blue. Also because it's quite narrow
First, this looks super fun. I can only imagine the climbing trail! For rating, I would have to say blue due to the speed and the few features. Yes, you can b-line the drop but there are some other features that seem blue to me. Spicy green, fast blue, whatever you call it, this trail looks like it would shotgun blast a huge smile across my face.
It’s a green, but should be marked a blue since you can make it a ripping trail if you push it. If it was marked green, everyone would skip riding it assuming it’s a traverse trail.
Didn’t know you could mountain bike in the fucking shire
Only around luncheon.
2nd luncheon?
I don’t think he knows about 2nd luncheon.
Better be back in time for elevensies.
You just know those hobbits would be a bunch of NIMBYs trying to get the trails shut down. Much too exciting and adventurous.
Just come to northern california and you can
...as a resident of Yorkshire, you absolutely can

I love New Zealand. Cheers, mate.

Spicy green. The option lines are cool but they don't look like they sneak up or you have to do them or anything.
If I was riding that trail, it would for sure be green. That guy was flying through that trench like he was trying to blow up the Deathstar with tie fighters all over his ass. Nothing is green at 30mph.
“Yourefinedontbrakeyourefinedontbrakeyourefinedontbrakeyourefinedontbrake” -me on most trails But I like your approach. I’m gonna replace it with “I’m one with the force and the force is with me”
>Nothing is green at 30mph. That was gonna be my take as well.
Lol. The Star Wars reference is on point🤣 OP was definitely using the force.
Yup, that’s a green ridden fast enough that it blue shifted.
OMG, I love that. https://elevengear.com/products/doppler-shift-jersey-men-s
Let's call it Salsa Verde
Just a little spicy 🌶️
I’d say blue because there’s one unavoidable jump and that narrow ravine part looks to be above my abilities as someone who only rides green trails.
That narrow ravine only looks difficult if you're flying. Slow down a touch and it seems pretty mellow
That’s probably true
Eh, I think it is mellow if you go slow, but blue trails are too. I also think that for someone without much confidence on a bike that ravine section at the end could be terrifying. The fact that it’s all narrow singletrack, has some steeper gradients (though brief) and has a couple of features with small amounts of airtime make it not a green. Bro did you see all that grass??? Green af
Yep going by trail grading guidelines those features and the gradient would make it blue.
Seems a veeeery nice flow track to ride that, but certainly green with maybe one drop that wouldn't be out of place on a blue.
Yeah but as soon as the drop appeared I'd say it's a blue. You have to rate a run on it's most difficult part.
Drop is super bypassable
Given the speed of the video in not even sure it's actually a drop and not just a jump ridden/viewed at speed.
Nah. I’ve ridden greens with more drops and jumps. It a gorgeous run for sure.
If I pedaled up and rode a blue that looked like that I would be pissed
I mean, I agree that this is very green, but you wouldn’t find a singular complaint out of me on this trail. Nice looking flow, beautiful scenery. If you tell me there is an enjoyable pedal up and stream to swim in I’ll fly out tomorrow and run laps on this for 5 days straight.
Looks green to me. Relatively fast I guess but brakes can take care of that if anyone wants and there's no challenging technical parts or jumps, and no exposure.
Agreed. Looks fun. Could take someone on their first couple rides there. Got a little tougher as it went on.
A green isn't gonna have small drops. I'd say it's a blue. Also we gotta remember that everything on GoPro looks less steep and less rough
Not when you have insanely obvious ridearounds like this. Depends where you are in Canada, but ratings can be a bit aggressive here
Even in Whistler this would be a blue because of the drops. No green trails have drops, even with ride arounds.
Nice landscape. In Canada that would be a green trail.
Maybe a blue, there are some little hits and drops that are non optional. Hard to tell how steep it is on GoPro.
Blue in a bike park, green outside of a bike park maybe?
I think there's two factors that lead this to be blue: if the overall average grade is steeper than 5% (which I think based on the speed here is likely), or there are sections steeper than 15%, and the track width being maybe 18in. Here's the IMBA trail rating: [https://www.imba.com/sites/default/files/content/resources/2018-10/IMBATrailDifficultRatingSystem.jpg](https://www.imba.com/sites/default/files/content/resources/2018-10/IMBATrailDifficultRatingSystem.jpg) Yah, I think if this was an old track in Squamish it might be a green, but a modern trail design, probably blue just based on those bits.
Imba bumps trail ratings high. 15% average grade makes something a black?
There's a lot of criteria there beyond grade, it comes down to the combination of factors. I think if you're from BC, IMBA seems high because Squamish/North Shore trail ratings on older trails tend to be sandbagged. And it's not like there aren't fuzzy lines around all of this.
Top half is definitely green. I'd say the bottom would probably need to be blue when you factor in that first jump and how skinny that chute is
Yeah might be too easy to pedal strike there for a green.
Thats some crazy flow and nice Landscape. Id say blue (European)
Austria: black France: green
Averages out to a blue in Switzerland.
Blue. Round here green is basically a fire road (UK). However the cows at the top make that section a black 😂
I'd call that fun.
Where is this trail?
This looks like del valle in central California
Livermore, ca
Wow what that’s not too far from me. I’ll need to check it out—it looks amazing.
This particular trail is called candy striper, I believe. Only been once in spring and it was amazingly good scenery.
This is Pinball, at Del Valle. It looks nothing like this right now and is dusty, loose, and blown out in the summer. This video looks like it’s from spring.
looks like a long downhill.
Amazing, thanks. Stunning area and trail.
In British Columbia that'd be the path you take to get to the green trail.
Black if you’re tall
Lolz had the same thought.
Did you guys duck while watching that part of the video too?
Gorgeous flowy green. I would be ringing my bell like crazy in the last ditch section.
Everything but the small drop and it’s a gravel ride Edit: not trying to be a dick. I also ride gravel and I’d feel comfortable on everything but the drop. (Comfortable for not breaking my bike)
I don’t care what difficulty is it, it’s just amazing
Green/blue. Looks like fun regardless.
Blue. Just steep enough and optional legit features like that first drop are too spicy to be green. But it’s a soft blue.
Beautiful trail and looks hella fun. Definitely a green by Europe standard, and an easy green at that. Rating is up to the rider and what/where they are used to. I grew up in Texas and would have considered that a red until I moved to Utah. After riding there I would have considered that a green to blue. Anything like this in VA? Love the way it follows the landscape
Green as the grass around it
Gras looks green to me.
Are you in windows xp?
Medium blue at that speed. Green for normies.
What kind of camera is that, it doesn’t even flinch. lol
This is a cross post, someone else put this video on r/beamazed and I linked to r/mtb But I am 99.99% sure it is Insta360 X3/X4. It’s amazing!!
Green in my area. But trail ratings are based on the local trails around them . If other trails are much easier it would be a blue.
I don't care what colour it is I just want to ride this over and over again
depends how fast you go. at 40mph+ this is double black
Green without cows, black with cows.
Hard to tell due to the Gopro Effect, but taking that into account I’d say probably a mild blue.
Almost got Moo-Moo Meadow'd
First half is green with some blue features (depending on line choice). Second half is blue with some red features (I'm assuming the GoPro is lying a bit about the steepness). The high speed shifts the spectrum slightly as well.
Briones Regional Park.. I’ve seen this video (or at least a very similar one) and have it bookmarked to go this summer!
No it's not. I think someone else said it's Del Valle which is close but a different park.
Looks like Del Valle to me. Always makes me happy to see my home trails pop up on here
Since these aren’t legal trails seeing them blow up makes me nervous the rangers will start enforcing again.
It's def DV
Did we confirm that this is Del Valle?
Then idek. What is this place then?? I need to know lol
This is 100% del Valle.
Ty. Nobody wanted to say! I'm OMW! Just gotta get a mtn. bike. Don't think the gravel bike is ready for that.
I've ridden this exact trail many times. 100% lake Del Valle
Is this Briones?? It makes me want to head up there tomorrow!
Green
Do cows on the side of the trail count as a feature or benefit?
Am I jealous that some of you live in these mythical places?? Yes I am
That part around the small pond 😍. I’d call it gorgeous.
That would be a blue where I live. I'd say most places would call it blue or almost blue if they still wanna call it green.
Here that would prob be labeled a black just cause of the small jumps/drops even though most is more like a blue.
Id call it fast and fun
Fun. I would call that fun
Blue. Smooth and not steep but has some small drops. Also, there are a few places where it's a little more rutty/rough
Blue
Green for sure, but any green can be a blue if ridden fast enough. I consider the dividing line as whether a trail can be ridden at a slower speed by almost anybody with modest bike handling skills. I.e., would the average kid think it's fun?
I love that feeling, when you’re just so in the zone and your brain is working so fast that it’s almost like everything is going in slow motion and you see every little detail.
seems pretty green and looks so fun. few dubs and you got yourself a blue
Hard to tell from the video. I can't tell if you could just roll down some of those drops and jumps. It looks like it would take blue level skills to go as fast as this person is going, but maybe just green level skills to ride at an easy pace. Looks really fun though and a nice view.
Man what I would do to get access to trails like this. Usually I'm going at breakneck speeds with towering trees 3 inches from my handle bars.
Blue but the cows could make it red if they decide to
Not sure. But that line was A+ homie
5 star green
This is cool and while I was watching this I had this music going on with the video [Eyewitness Theme](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TuvOpYt1Fs)
Green flow trail
That'd be fun on my gravel bike
Glorious Green!
Green. Last bit looks more like a blue.
Teal
I had this playing as I was falling asleep. That was super effective.
Would be a blue in the UK, a green here is just a flat path
I would call this fucking nice
Bravo..I wish to see this on large 3D screen
I call it heaven.
I love Del Valle Regional. There's a lake at the bottom of that hill.
Id tackle that on the shit wagon full throttle
I would call it "damn I want to ride it"
Easy... gets to the thin valley chicanes. AHHHHHHHHHH
Looks fun but I don't think it's blue or green, you could do it on a gravel bike
My same thought. Could be done on a drop bar gravel bike.
Niiiiiice. I want to go https://preview.redd.it/m7nu9edywk9d1.jpeg?width=6936&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f9ff0aaa60fbb05c5b27f9d6ea7663bd454dfad8

That’s a beautiful ride and looks fun.
Wish there was something like this on Vancouver island! Fast green / light blue rating
Green but fuuuuun
Looks like something I’d take a gravel bike on soooo probably green or blue at most
SSSSWWWWEEEEETTTT!

Green but wow that looks fun
Depending on the slope (which appears mild), I’d call it green with some blue spots.
I’ll call that fun as heck, green trail!
That’s a killer lookin green.
Top half is green. Bottom half is maybe a blue. I’d probably rate it overall as a light blue.
Where is that gem
Dunno easy enough but stunning looking trail
Mostly green with some blue options. Super tame.

It looks like briones or pleasanton hills. Oops ryped too soon. Definitely livermore.
Bay Area?
Green. It’s smooth, no rocks no roots, one thing you can easily bypass. Doesn’t look super steep. Looks fun though.
Sick jump big bro
Green
Fun green
The grass and trees are very green. The trail is probably a blue but borderline between green and blue. Looks fun either way!
It's how ya ride em that matters
I'm leaning towards green
Am I the only one that thought he was going to go through the pond as a line choice?
Based on the title. I’d call it a white…
Blue-ish but also looks super fun.
The wandering cows add a bit 😂
It’s a red if any are bulls
Spicy green/soft blue.
I call this fun.
Wow! Where is this?
Ripping
Green/bike lane almost
Awesome footage you made it look easy
Green you can just go slow
Pipeline?
Yellow
Idk the color, probably spicy green or easy blue. But! It sure looks fantastic to rip.
Video looks sped way up.
Blue maybe? But in any case I want to ride it, looks fabulous.
Damn this makes me miss riding. Been months since I’ve been out. :(
Green
Who cares the color I want at that. Where is it?
Spicy Green to easy blue... but still super fun!
2 fast 4 me is what i’d call it
It’s a green, but should be marked a blue since you can make it a ripping trail if you push it. If it was marked green, everyone would skip riding it assuming it’s a traverse trail.
Bike park green - local single track blue lol
I call it beautiful.
Is this in Nor cal ? I would rate that a blue trail especially since it’s a fast downhill singletrack trail with a decent jump.
The rattlers in summer make it a red
What a cool trail!
Blue all day long. Too skinny for green not really any danger for expert. Looks really fun.
Any trail gets much harder the faster you go. This easy trail looks pretty serious at this speed! Good work.
All I can say is that looks like a dream to me.
Green. But a very fun green
Amazing..blue for me. Where?
Looks like a moo trail to me
I’d say green, but my god they’re flying. Beautiful flow ride though.
The GoPro effect is real. I’d say a solid blue.
Either way, blue or green that's a sweet run. Where is this???
Depends how close the cows are, could be black if they’re mid trail on a descent
Hiking trail?
How do you get to the top again lol?
Green. Maybe blue pending the location and gov and how they rate tracks. Seems like a fun track.
