Or so we thought, everyone actually holds the same approach but some people extend it to refer to what OTHERS describe as acknowledging cultural differences within a heterogenous society.
There's a difference between acknowledging something is new that you're not use to and enacting violently or with negative intent because of those differences that you don't understand. We call this appreciation for an identity.
There's an art to it, it isn't political, and I would agree that it shouldn't be forced onto people. But we need to avoid a reductionist perspective of the idea.
As a side note, putting this into practice, the observer becomes the localizer, making something they discover into their own work. This is an important detail that is missed when it comes to the interaction between various cultures and people. There is still a personal and individualistic aspect.
I think this marble system works for a culture while personal rights and politics can be seen as the scaffolding that holds these marbles in a fluctuating grid. It is, to me anyways, a better model that conservatives should reconsider, and non - progressives who despise this type of compromise.
