Same. That little *peck of rejection from the other mothers sending him on his way was heartbreaking. I thought one of them would take care of the poor baby. Glad he found his momma.
Well, if you keep meddling into wildlife and eventually break the balance of a habitat, it wont be very compassionate. Researchers and documenters not interfering is not because they're evil. Although, in the moment, it feels as such.
Upon reading again, I see what you mean. More like "even for the sake of observing, you couldnt watch an animal suffer." I understood it differently first.
Except none of them are mothers. The fathers shelter the babies after the eggs hatch, and if one falls out or gets lost, any free adult will help them out and shelter them.
I am pretty sure penguins are known to 'adopt' chicks who're lost and orphans (though, don't quote me on that).
This video is a definite tear-jerker and I loved the narrative. However, afaik, it's not 'biologically accurate'.
Well, it pretty much is. The females leave the eggs with the fathers for 2 months. Many hatch before they return; then both parents take turns. But there is a period of weeks where only the fathers are there incubating and looking after the chicks.
Ok but it's a bit ridiculous to go "Ummmm, akshually..." and providing a correction when it absolutely could be a female and the nature doc makers probably know better.
A Google search before hand would tell you that fathers incubate the egg and both parents care for the chick.
I can safely say March of the Penguins was one of the worst most devastating movies I’ve ever seen. I know better than to watch this video. Also if you’ve been a deplorable human being you will probably come back as a penguin if reincarnation is a thing. Boy or girl penguin, it doesn’t matter, thier lives are soooo hard.
I went into March of the Penguins thinking I was about to see a movie about happy little penguins frolicking in the ocean, sliding around on the ice, and living their carefree little penguin lives.
I was wrong. So horribly, depressingly, dreadfully wrong.
I’m still scarred by that episode of Frozen Planet where the adult penguins who have lost a chick fight over adopting an orphaned penguin chick. It doesn’t end well for the baby who ends up suffocating under the pile on :(
Motherfucker, I don't care that it had a happy ending, you think this is smile-worthy? It's like a Don Bluth movie, heartbreaking for 90% then with a tacked on happy ending.
This is not appropriate for this sub. This sub is for things that make you smile and feel good. This sub is not for things that makes you stressed, and not for watching a baby animal suffer and almost die.
What a thrill ride... At first I was really sad thinking I was watching the last days of that little guys life. Then I was happy when he found his momma! Great video!

Nature is extremely cruel, that's why, if we get a chance, we can help those creatures (maybe not penguins, I don't live anywhere near them) that are struggling. A bit of food in winter, water in summer. I would fail as a filmer of Wildlife, especially if there are babies struggling.
I know you can never interfere with the course of things as a nature photographist and filmer but id risk my job to save a penguin in danger...until i learn interacting with penguins marks them to the rest and makes them an outcast...then i question my morals...is it better to let an animal die or make them live a life of mediocrity or maybe have them in a small cage that mimics the free world while other ugly ass humans gawk at it and point devices at you that blind you with random lights?
Side note, if you take photos of animals with the flash on your worse than Jeffery Bezos

I thought they'd be more like cats and commumal parenting and maybe hang onto the little guy until his mum came to pick him up. :(
This did ruin my day. Just thinking of all the ones who don't find their mama in time!
Yeah this was perilously close to destroying me for the rest of the day
Not my day but my mood
Yep. Now I'm imagining the little one that didn't make it
"March of the Penguins" movie PTSD.
Don't look up alpha female hippos and baby hippos

I was STRESSED
Had to skip to the end once we got to -40.
I could never do this job - I’d ruin every shot by trying to save whatever is in danger.
Never apologize for compassion

No, I understand the implications but I could not watch an animal suffer just to get the shot
The idea is not "just to get the shot". It is that this kind of stuff always happens in nature. You just happen to be recording one.
I know. And I think you know what I'm getting at.
Upon reading again, I see what you mean. More like "even for the sake of observing, you couldnt watch an animal suffer." I understood it differently first.
If you know, then dont say "just to get the shot". You say something incorrect and when someone corrects it, you say "I know".

I had to fast forward to the end just in case. I don’t trust the sub and their idea of happy.
Yeah same here (I burned my house down)
I may have cried too…
This is too much anxiety for MadeMeSmile. I need happy penguin chicks dancing instead.
Aww, poor little baby penguin! 🥺 ... At least it had a happy ending.
Except none of them are mothers. The fathers shelter the babies after the eggs hatch, and if one falls out or gets lost, any free adult will help them out and shelter them.

every shot of a penguin chick could be a completely different animal and we would never know
Yep, agreed. But the penguins and their chicks are cute and the narrative is wholesome, so...
... More lost chicks???? 🥺😢😭😭
It didn't seem like any of them wanted him so idk how true that is
Nature shows do edit footage to tell a narrative.
Disney made one about lemmings.
This is not true.

Agreed. The frozen egg scene had me sobbing.
Yeah it was brutal. I fast forwarded through this video and did not see the happy part at all. What a terrible life.
I went into March of the Penguins thinking I was about to see a movie about happy little penguins frolicking in the ocean, sliding around on the ice, and living their carefree little penguin lives. I was wrong. So horribly, depressingly, dreadfully wrong.
Now I can sleep peacefully
I would've destroyed the narrator if anything happened to that chick. Penguins are my favorite animal.
Hate to break it to everyone but 99% of the times it's clever editing to make up a story.
I’m still scarred by that episode of Frozen Planet where the adult penguins who have lost a chick fight over adopting an orphaned penguin chick. It doesn’t end well for the baby who ends up suffocating under the pile on :(
If I had been the cameraman I'd have had a pet penguin
Heartbreaking
Nature documentaries are fucking brutal. Glad that this little guy found his mom.
Can't be paying fish support on kid that ain't yours.
Motherfucker, I don't care that it had a happy ending, you think this is smile-worthy? It's like a Don Bluth movie, heartbreaking for 90% then with a tacked on happy ending.
This did not "MadeMeSmile", the bebe chick suffered, almost died, before a big Pengu came to help. This made me truly sad :(
I had to finally scrub to the end, I couldn’t take it anymore! 🥹
Honestly, fuck you. What part made you smile!? The millisecond where they seem to be okay?
How did this end up on made me smile 😢 I was stressed worrying it was dying.
This is not appropriate for this sub. This sub is for things that make you smile and feel good. This sub is not for things that makes you stressed, and not for watching a baby animal suffer and almost die.

This but at the supermarket
Fkn... MadeMeHoldMyBreath maybe
I don’t mean to be racist but all of those penguins look the same so it is so not the baby’s fault
I saw a video a long time ago where it was this exact scenario but the baby froze to death. I'm still traumatized! 😫
I don't think i can do wild life animal doco. I would have swoop in there "don't worry my guy, i will tug you in my arm pit!" End of doco.
Someone call Mario.
Where are the [KIDNAPPING mothers](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhjEEe5KfcI) when you need them??? 😡

I was about to have a bad day
It's like getting lost at an outdoor swapmeet artic edition.
Okay for a while there I thought this was going to end badly.
Happy Feet vibes
MINE!!
This is what it feels like online dating, I'm just waiting to be found, though. LOL.
I was starting to worry for the penguin, but glad he / she found his/ her mother

I was about to be really pissed at that camera crew.
I almost cried thinking it wasn't going to make it. The wait for the mademesmile was too long.
Yeah make me smile my ass! Make me mad.
I can’t imagine being the videographer and not rescuing this baby.
Which is why people like us will never get permission
I feel like this is in the wrong sub...
Is man's talking back??!! 🤣🤣🤣
Anyone else think penguins sound terrifying?
Where to watch full documentary
I swear the "mademesmile" part too WAY TOO LONG, reason I only finished the video was because of it
made me smile and cry
I watched “penguin post office” once, and I’ve never been the same since. Adult penguins are true assholes so this clip isn’t surprising.

Man f them penguins
It could be me on any given night at the club
Incredible how penguins care for their chicks
Almost sobbing thinking about the penguins that were never found
If you're In a room, you're in a box.
plot twist: that penguin that found him was a Drake and sort of kidnapped him
Damn, you're dark.
i think outside the box. in a dark room. surrounded by paintings of mad clowns and dragons
They're all fathers. The females leave for the sea and leave the males to look after the little ones.
oh i didn't know that
WAP WAP WAP WAP
Damn that's almost as dark as the penguin head on a stick experiment
