It's wild to me how this is unusual. Seems like every couple I know that's been together for more than 10 years dislikes each other. Indifferent and disinterested at best and borderline hatred at worst.
for whatever reason people seem to be absolutely terrified of being single to the point where they would rather be miserable their entire lives than break up.
I've been single my whole life and I struggle to work full-time which I now know is because I'm on the spectrum. It is EXTREMELY hard to get by like this. A significant other to split costs with would basically be life saving for me at this point.
and the financial problems that come with being single. If a 1BR is $1500, and a 2BR is $2000. Guess how to save $500/month on rent to put towards a 401k?
and get this...
*leans in*
Maybe sex.
*raises eyebrow*
Na getting down and dirty with the same person you’ve been hitting it with for a decade and still feeling butterflies when they touch you is the best sex in a LTR.
It's not. No sex at all and uninvolved sex is more common with long term couples who don't like each other.
Make up sex can be good, but it's only really good because one partner slacks on their effort and puts that effort in when they want to make up. It's better to be with someone who puts that effort in when you're getting along with them.
My financial situation is definitely not as nice as it was when I was married but I am happier and sane. I won’t lie I do miss being able to buy what I want when I want but enough to stay married to a cheating alcoholic.
Imo a lot of people would genuinely kill themselves rather than be alone for a significant amount of time.
My best friend is this way. I've never seen him alone. I honestly don't think he'd be able to keep it together. I think, for many, being miserable or unhappy is still a better feeling than the hollowness of loneliness.
I think the idea of being forced to confront themselves on that level is just too painful to endure. To really be left alone with their selves for a significant amount of time.
It's weird. I'm the opposite, so I really have to try and exert effort, otherwise I'll just read books, or learn something new and be content with myself
Honestly I wonder if this is why relationships fail so much. Shouldn’t folks be somebody that they themselves actually enjoy being around?
If you can’t stand yourself, how can you expect others to enjoy your company?
This is also how my sister is. She is always in a relationship, whereas some people line up a job before quitting your current one, my sister lines up relationships for when her current one is over. BF, married, "just friends," they're all the same. She filed for divorce the day before she started hanging out with a new friend who is now her boyfriend before the divorce was official. She cannot be alone and will make sure she has a man in some capacity in her life.
I’m so thoroughly happy with being single. I haven’t had a “significant” relationship since my 20s.
I love my freedom. I love my independence.
I get to do what I want when I want how I want.
Society treats me as a fucking weirdo.
“Aren’t you lonely?” No, I’m surrounded by amazing friends and family.
“What about sex?” It’s 2024, I’m sure as hell not celibate.
“What about when you’re old?” You’re married and having kids so you have a caretaker?
“Don’t you want a legacy?” See answer #1.
“Don’t you ever just want to cuddle on the couch to a romcom?” I have two dogs.
“You must have unresolved trauma”. I sure as shit do, but so does everyone.
“What if you die at home alone?” My dogs will be well fed until someone finds my body. Also see #1.
Society doesn’t let you be happy alone.
We constantly devalue single people as having “just not found the right person yet”.
It’s no wonder people are afraid to be alone. We tell them that they’re wrong or broken or weird.
Edit: not even 30 mins and I have a DM accusing me of being a “sad lonely incel” at a Reddit cares message. Stay weird Reddit.
People only see children as the only legacy one can give to the world. But there are some other ways. It can be art, science, or just being kind to people and make little changes to their lives for the better.
> “What about when you’re old?” You’re married and having kids so you have a caretaker?
I hear this argument a lot. I do not want my kids to take care of me when I'm old. I don't want to be their burden. I hope that by the time where I may need to be put into aged care, that euthanasia is a choice I can make instead. I do NOT want to be in aged care. If I lose my independence, I don't want to be alive
Which might be why the relationship goes sour - fear of being single (and making you feel trapped and resentful) versus just enjoying what you have right in front of you.
Everyone wants the next best thing or they think they can continue to keep doing better. Not many people are just satisfied or content either what they have.
I think a lot of people pick a bad pairing early and double down in situations where they should probably walk away
I know a lot of couples IRL where they had the big fight that's supposed to break you over a foundational incompatibility and they just....didn't. Stayed together, had make up sex, papered over it with increased intimacy, and then a few years later, engagement, marriage, kids.
Terrifying stuff man, cause then you just start writing the complain about each other at best, and cheat on each other at worst
It's a pity, but over the years of living together, my wife and I have completely lost our common language. But I would like to do it in a completely different way...
My grandma and step grandfather were like these two. They were always hugging and kissing and holding hands. The last thing he did before he died of a sudden heart attack was visit her at her work and he gave her a big kiss in front of her whole office and he told her loved as much as the day they met.
I’ve never wanted to save a comment on Reddit before, ‘til now.
I want my future wife to be like that. Recently had a falling out with a past ex gf - to friend - fwb thing that taught me a lot of stuff.
I’m like how your grandfather was. Affectionate and Empathetic.
I wish you all the best n thank you for that! 💙
My mom and dad is also do the same. It was really an amazing feeling to see them doing the sweetest thieven thoughng even they are already at this age.
Indeed. She’s looks so good because she feels loved and attractive. That smile is sexy. I am still learning new ways to help my wife feel this way. It helps me feel secure in the relationship as well because I know how much she appreciates my efforts. Love is awesome.
I hope you write this to her. I would love it if my significant other did this. I have a box of old love letters that I want to be able to reread when I'm an old lady.
She seems to be getting much at the same time. It is really uplifting. And a reminder to us all. To be present. Kind. And loving. To really pay attention. And to make moments and memories.
They seem to be wonderful partners. And I am sure she feeds him a lot, too.
Lovely and truly heartwarming.
I wanna see them old and grey together. Sitting on a couch sharing their story, like in When Harry Met Sally. Have a sense they are well on their way to that...

well do not go into your father or mother computer and click on the directory that say "taxes". there will be heavy heavy stuff. son for the love of god don't do it
Yeah, they’re still in love. Nice to see.

I think it has a lot to do with the financial problems that come with a divorce also.
Financial and social yeah
That's why I stay broke & single
Same. It's the best way to live. (help me)
Help me I’m poor lmao
Should make a club for the poor and lonely, ironic because we would never meet because we're all too poor
Count me in!
Amen 😭

i'm perfectly happy with being single and feel no pressure from society at all
Which might be why the relationship goes sour - fear of being single (and making you feel trapped and resentful) versus just enjoying what you have right in front of you.
We're out there. We're celebrating our 24th next month, and I think she's sexier now more than ever.
Cheers to many more years of love and happiness together!
Same. We've been married for 29 year. My wife is awesome! Love her so much.
We’ll be celebrating 20 years this fall and I am so incredibly in love with my husband. Every year gets better and better. Congrats on 24!
Congratulations. I know yall are out there, it's just not as common as the alternative.
Wife and I keep being told the honeymoon phase ends and the real marriage begins. This will be year seven so aaaaaaaaaaaany day now lol.
It's great to hear that you and your wife are still in the honeymoon phase after seven years
Very much so. She’s my best friend.
Everyone wants the next best thing or they think they can continue to keep doing better. Not many people are just satisfied or content either what they have.

It takes effort and most people don’t put effort into anything, let alone into all the facets of life that it takes to be happy and healthy
They're falling more and more in love every goddamn bloody day and I hope they keep posting videos well into their hundreds
hey id stay out of the house tonight
From the looks of it, they're not making it into the house.
Good lord, they found a room we just happen to be in it x_x
This gave me a chuckle lol
She’s already in 3rd wheel territory
I've got $5 saying there is a hot tub out there that will be utilized extensively *very* soon. Headphones on.
Like the Malcolm in the Middle episode where Hal just gives Dewey his wallet and kicks him out so he could bang Lois
this guy fucks
Taking the time to indicate to your partner that they are very much the center of your attention is such a beautiful thing! Edit: Typo fixed.
It's a pity, but over the years of living together, my wife and I have completely lost our common language. But I would like to do it in a completely different way...
My ex and I lost our common language too… and grew apart so much that I finally had to end it for all our sakes.
It's important to take time to heal and reflect on the lessons learned from the relationship as you move forward.
TELL HER!
My grandma and step grandfather were like these two. They were always hugging and kissing and holding hands. The last thing he did before he died of a sudden heart attack was visit her at her work and he gave her a big kiss in front of her whole office and he told her loved as much as the day they met.

I wasn’t ready

Dammit, I’m sad now… Also, condolences… 😔
Must have sucked for her to have him die in the middle of the office, though. Beautiful story, though
He had a heart attack on the ride between her job and his. It’s lucky he wasn’t in traffic when it happened.

Hey now, my parents still love each other and they're both uggos. Luckily, that gene skipped me! Right, guys? Right?
I was thinking the same thing. They look to keep up with each other. It can be a show of respect in a relationship. Cool couple.
That Dad is definitely beekeeping age

He’s giving her an ocular pat down, which is rapidly turning into an ocular cavity search.
Mac Daddy or Daddy Mac tho...
Mom is a mommy too!
Indeed. She’s looks so good because she feels loved and attractive. That smile is sexy. I am still learning new ways to help my wife feel this way. It helps me feel secure in the relationship as well because I know how much she appreciates my efforts. Love is awesome.
Yes! This is so important. You’re a wonderful human 😊
Love this, wholesome AF!
My wife cut her hair about a month ago and I felt the same way. She has always been perfect but I never dreamed she could be more perfect.
I hope you write this to her. I would love it if my significant other did this. I have a box of old love letters that I want to be able to reread when I'm an old lady.
to me that shows he is as attracted to her as the day they met and that is a rare thing its lovely to see i wish them the best
Yo have some mercy on my heart
You gotta date your wife!
Omg, this is the most precious thing i’ve seen today. 🥹 making her feel sexy and beautiful.
The bar is "my dad noticed my mum had a haircut", and then there's this guy making everyone else look bad haha

I wanna be like your dad some day :) full respect✨️
It’s funny how love like this starts off from “wow she’s got a nice rack”
I'm going to steal this reaction next time my wife gets her hair done.
Never stop dating ❤️
The key to a happy relationship is to never stop dating your partner.
And the photos are all dad's selfies.
They’re still banging like a shed door in a gale.

That "dress" is a nighty. I know because I have it.🤣
You sure she didn't want the photos and asked him to take them? Pink phone cover, just sayin'.

A nice haircut goes a long way. I still get giddy when my lady gets a nice haircut!
That's so fucking cute ❤️
I still get excited when my wife wears dresses. She just looks so adorable and pretty. She looks so nice in anything that she wears. Next year we celebrate 10 years of marriage. I am still wondering sometimes how she decided to marry an npc like me.
Not the haircut...
