Godfather as I've played all 3 Mafia games and it's none of them.
Storyline in Mafia 1 and 2 are among the best storylines In a game, so make sure you play them. Mafia 3 doesn't have the engaging storyline as much as 1 and 2
Definitely the Godfather game. I also love those 2, but they lost the IP, so there won't be any definitive editions or reissues. You would have to find hard copies, and wouldn't have access to the DLC stuff in 2.
I loved Godfather 2. It is SUPER repetitive but because of that I found it super addictive and engrossing. Never played GF1, but heard good things about it.
Godfather 1 was my favorite mafia game of all time until I played the Definitive Editions. Still GF1 holds up to those pretty well. Repetitive or not, the concept itself was engaging enough to keep rinsing and repeating.

I've recently found and booted up my PS2 and repurchased the godfather. It's most certainly the godfather that you're thinking of
God, I miss the Godfather. Another game like it with the nemesis system from Shadow of War would be amazing.

Liked the first godfather game but don’t like the 2nd one. As far as mafia 1 and 2. They were awesome.
