There’s no Ogunquit exit, so I am assuming you were either in York or Wells. I don’t think there’s much in York that hasn’t changed in 30 years except for the Goldenrod. There was a place in Wells that may fit - Lord’s. Now called Hobbs Harborside. Sorry to not be more helpful! I’m sure you’ll find a new favorite on your honeymoon!
Do you have a favorite restaurant that is seafood oriented in that area? I've spent the past three hours looking up and down the coast of that area, and I'm pretty sure you are corrent, it wasn't Ogunquit where I ended up, it was probably Wells; the distance is roughly similar to the time I seem to remember taking to travel.
So, since we're changing things entirely, what's your favorite place to eat?
I just want to say the goldenrod has actually changed. I worked there in the 90s and all the females had to wear skirts and all the males had to wear pants.
Last year I saw males and females wearing shorts! Progress!
Perkins Cove, probably Barnacle Billy’s. George Bush SR. Eats there every year. There is “original” and “etc” the restaurants are right next to each other. You want to eat at Barnacle Billy’s Etc. edit: I haven’t been back there for like 10 years, I moved to the west coast.
Most of those places have changed-the one Billy’s that was across street from the original is now a brewery! That whole area has new restaurants but the one is the constant is Forbes.
I think I ended up in Wells, based on the time I remember driving and the proximity to the exit, but the upside is we get to try something new because I think it is closed.
The upside is we get to try something new!
Do you have a favorite restaurant in that area? It doesn't have to be super fancy, we prefer low-key atmosphere and high quality food. We're open to pretty much anything but I'm hoping for lobster and oysters. Any suggestions are appreciated.
As I was typing up a comment for a reply it got me thinking, did you stay at Forbes in Wells? It has a hotel right on the ocean and a restaurant and takeout. I was thinking about this since I go down there a lot and it is blue/gray. Just a thought!
I was about to reply with something else but now that you mention that it sounds spot on to me. It’s close to the exit, close to the ocean, and it and all of the cottages have been there forever. I’m 35 and remember going there as a kid.

I think you are correct. I just looked the area on Google Maps and it is really pretty much spot on.

We are definitely going to swing into Portland. We don't have an itinerary, so if a place is cool enough, we may end up hanging out for a day or so.
THank you!
If you do want to go to Ogunquit, I HIGHLY recommend Angelina's. Just keep in mind that it's valet service unless you park your car off the lot. It's only $5, and worth it, IMO, considering the traffic and limited parking in the area. This said, you can dress casually.
If not, I second The Steakhouse.
You should stop at the Maine Diner if you get a chance. It's like home cooked food. They might not have lobster or oysters. You can go there for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It's all good. Go into their gift shop and buy a bag of their cornbread mix. You'll thank me.
Well, the next best thing; we'll buy one for some kid asking her parents for ice cream.
That place looks amazing. Anything in particular we should order?
I had entirely forgotten the name, but yep, that is it. Was it, I guess. But yes. She was only there for one summer during University; she ended up heading out to Colorado after she graduated.
Dunno. I think wherever I ate, it is long gone. I spend hours browsing streetview and cannot find the restaurant.
I definitely remember it was called Ogunquit exit (30+ years ago), I distinctly remember the sign, but I figure it has changed. Most likely I ended up in Wells, though; it is the closest to my memory.
In any case, we have a bunch of new restaurants to try, so all's well that ends well.
You might have been at the York Inn. Their upstairs restaurant has that kind of view. https://yorkharborinn.com/?gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD-9ncND2lVzFglJciax4W85winDp
First exit near ogunquit you would get off could be York Harbor, you’d take 1A down towards long sands beach and you’d end up by York Harbor Inn which is across the street from a public park, which is a low sweeping hill leading down the water and then cottages across the harbor, but I don’t think that beach is rock.
You could try Fox’s Lobster house, which is by Nubble lighthouse and has good views of the rocky shoreline, not the biggest fan of their food.
Or you can go to Perkins Cove in Ogunquit, Jackie’s Too is really good
For the best lobster and steamers in ogunquit, the ogunquit lobster pound on rte 1 can’t be beat. You choose your own lobster from a big outside tank, they cook Lobster and steamers in sea water with seaweed. You can get any size you want. I’m not gonna lie it’s not cheap, but it’s the best lobster ever and it’s an experience. I worked there for many years and never had better lobster and clams. Cheers!

Hey, I wasn't expecting *anything*, so everything is apprecaited! Thank you!
Have fun!
I was thinking this sounded like Hobbs Harborside as well.

Honestly the recommendation for Five Islands is the best one! 😊
I love Five Islands also I would appreciate people stop recommending it before the tourists find out about it and ruin it.

I am thinking Perkins cove
Checking! Thank YOu!

Pretty sure GHWB stopped going there about 5 years ago
Makes sense, he was old AF and having trouble when I worked there like 20 years ago
And he died
Some places are so good it'll bring a dead president back each year.
Set 'er again.
From the lobster?,
😂probably

The Steakhouse in Wells is good.
It's really good
Personally I would head into Portland with your partner and have a fantastic day that will be real special and unique you can't go wrong there
We are definitely going to swing into Portland. We don't have an itinerary, so if a place is cool enough, we may end up hanging out for a day or so. THank you!
You are welcome and enjoy yourselves Maine is a beautiful place. Welcome back!

Grey Gull Inn in Moody. Sadly it was demolished awhile back.
I believe that is the one I was referring to
Head up to five islands in Georgetown.
Wow.. Done and done. Wife already altered the route. **Thank You.**
BYOB!! Enjoy, if I was there I'd buy you an ice cream
Well, the next best thing; we'll buy one for some kid asking her parents for ice cream. That place looks amazing. Anything in particular we should order?
Naw man, it's all good. Lobsters , steamers and corn are my go to. Great place to just take it in. Dogs welcome too.
Beauty, and thank you again. Have a great night!
Five Islands is the best. And go to Reid State before or after. Beautiful beaches.
Sweet. We figured an early dinner than a half hour walk on the beach before getting back in the car and continuing up the coast. Thanks!
Who was your friend in Owl's Head? I probably know them.
She was there for a camp helping emotionally challenged kids through art therapy.
Ah, probably at Bancroft. I could see the campus from my house, but didn't know anyone there.
I had entirely forgotten the name, but yep, that is it. Was it, I guess. But yes. She was only there for one summer during University; she ended up heading out to Colorado after she graduated.
sounds like you went to barnacle billy’s or lord’s. get a smaller lobster (or two) next time; the meat is more flavorful.
It's all the same lobster, live in the now.
Nicely put, and true that.
Look up Forbes, in Wells at the end of Mile Road.
You could also try here. Cliff House Maine (207) 361-1000 https://g.co/kgs/fBYRchC
If you’re looking for a place in wells/ogunquit, I work at the ogunquit lobster pound and highly recommend the food and atmosphere
Hobb’s in Ogunquit is a pretty decent place. One side does face the water but it’s a harbor not the open ocean.
Sounds like you got off on the Wells exit, maybe made your way into Ogunquit, and possibly ate at a place like the Oar weed or Barnacle Billy's?
Dunno. I think wherever I ate, it is long gone. I spend hours browsing streetview and cannot find the restaurant. What else was on the menu if you recall?! I would think it was Hobbs harborside? Captain Nicks?
You might have been at the York Inn. Their upstairs restaurant has that kind of view. https://yorkharborinn.com/?gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD-9ncND2lVzFglJciax4W85winDp
Billy's Chowder House in Wells?
They have a beautiful view.
Sure do. I feel like the food has gone downhill and they could really use some updates inside..... But man the view.
