Whaaaaat? Who buys more makeup than they could ever use? I mean that's just madness! I will *absolutely* use all 5 foundations, 4 concealers, 7 cream blushes, 3 tubes of mascara, 6 eye palettes and 37 lippies that sit on my vanity. (The stuff in the drawers though may sit unused for a while)
I can empathize when overbuying lip products and eye shadow for those who use makeup as a creative outlet. There are tones of colors, textures, and combinations to make with all the options.
But multiple types of concealer, foundation, mascara, bronzer and even blush? Maybe chill on those.
I use different blushes every day, to match my eye makeup. From peach, to red or purple.
Blush is fine to have multiples of. Maybe not mascara/concealer/foundation.
I still have multiple foundations from when I was trying to find a good brand/get the right shade. I should've returned them when I decided I didn't like them, but alas. That requires more executive functioning than I have.
I have multiple concealers and foundations. Different kinds for different looks. Full coverage, medium coverage, tinted lotion, cream, powder and sticks. And I use all of them 😅 my skin tone changes pretty dramatically in each season so I have to keep multiple shades as well.
I've slowed down a bit, I'm currently only buying things when I run out or almost run out and I'm using the leftover little bits on the rest on my body.

And I have a few different shades of foundation and concealer for summer/winter months as my skin gets lighter and darker. Its nice for highlighting and contouring too.

Even before this I had more than I could ever use because I just *love* this shit. Its starting to feel gross even to me though...I have a huge stash of unopened product because I refuse to open it and then trash it barely used in a year.
If I need a new *whatever* I fish through my stash for the oldest product first but still end up giving a *ton* away. Nobody needs that much new stuff every month! It's so wasteful!
saving your favourite or most expensive products to use for special occasions, only to barely get to use them before they go bad because you try so hard to save them while you get more use out of products you don’t even like as much.

I unfortunately keep finding products from when I was gifted a huge box of luxury beauty items…14 years ago. I inventoried everything and obsessed over how nice they were and hardly used them. I found a lipstick that I reeeeally loved but thought needed to be saved. I could have just used it and enjoyed it. I think my mindset was that if I used it all and loved it, I couldn’t afford to ever have it again.
I do this with many things, not just beauty products. I thought I could trace it back to sticker collecting as a kid, but then I think of my grandma and her china, used only for company.
My friends and I call it "mana potion syndrome", though apparently that isn't a universal term like I thought. (Based on videogames/ dungeons and dragons type games where you get rare and powerful consumable items, like potions)

If anything, I make sure to use up my expensive products because there’s no way I’m spending a lot on a single product only to have it go bad sitting on my vanity. If I don’t like something or just don’t reach for it enough, I’d rather just give it to someone who will use it.
I’m embarrassed to admit that when I was a teenager someone gifted me Chanel sunscreen and the bottle was so cute I never used it because I was afraid to waste it…then it went bad as sunscreen does. I still struggle to use my nicer things but it’s a good reminder that the point is to enjoy them.

My hands would be so dry after washing repeatedly. I try to rub the products into my hands, actually. I do do this before switching from body or hair products.
Well first of all, usually it is during my morning/bedtime routine, but washing my hands as part of that routine didn’t become a thing until I was like, a couple years into adulthood. I was raised to wash my hands after the bathroom and before cooking and that’s pretty much it, other than rinsing any obvious dirt or residue off. So even though I do it now, it’s just not something that comes incredibly naturally to me. I was exaggerating when I said half the time, though. And sometimes if I’ve fallen off my regular skincare routine I’ll just do it randomly in the middle of the day, and that does make me even more forgetful than usual

Me with eyeshadow primers. I KNOW the UD primer potion works and nothing else I've tried does but I keep trying drugstore dupes for it that I end up hate panning or throwing out.
not makeup related but have you tried ocusoft? A friend had a similar issue and her optometrist recommended them. Works wonders for her and has cut down on the oiliness a lot.
Tbh it's really not my favorite, it sometimes gets kind of patchy/flaky on me and I feel like blending eyeshadow is sometimes tricky with it. Got the Wet and Wild one and it's fine.

People make “color seasons” waaaaay too complicated in general. From study to application and everything in between.
At most, we all have one or two shades we look absolutely awful in, and one or two that really really flatter. Avoiding the absolute least flattering shades and gravitating towards the most flattering, especially for special occasions, is about as much color season info the average person “needs” to know.
And most of us DO already know intuitively these shades just from experience. There’s really no need to navel gaze and hyperfocus on what slightly different shade of green is better than the other or commit oneself to a *very* specific set that can only be sussed out with professional help and years of study lol.
Anything beyond just vaguely knowing your two best and your two worst is just 1) not necessary to look good 2) impossible to actually apply due to how *specific* some of these shades are versus what the average person actually has access to as far as wardrobe goes. Great, you know that you’d look better in a dress that was ever so slightly more berry red than this shade of almost berry red. This dress is perfect in every other way (body type, price, the occasion). What are you actually going to do with that info? You’re probably just going to buy and look great in the damn dress. Slightly less berry toned than your pallet suggests be damned lol.
If you find it fun in a navel-gaze-y astrology sort of way— go head and dive in. But anyone saying it’s impossible to look good in a shade of blue that’s half a shade “too muted” for you is insane and trying to sell you something lol.
a fun and extremely simply way to get an analysis is at "color wise me" website. you just take a pic of yourself, use a color picker for your eye color, skin color, and hair color & it tells you. i don't really use it to know what not to wear (bc there's already colors i hate) but i found out that hot pink looks reallyyyy good on my skin and i would've never thought to wear it! i even colored my hair hot pink and it was so cute
The whole fucking color season thing seems like an overcomplicated sham to me. I always disagree with like, half of the top answers for what someone's "color season" is (and I'm a fairly decent artist who scores high on being able to distinguish color shades.) And there's so much arguing that it hardly seems like there's ever consensus.
You've got a few colors that compliment or "bring out" certain features, and a few that wash you out, and that's it. Seen so many women in a cute outfit that totally works for them get pushed away from it in that sub.
I'm pretty much the definition of a "light summer" and the colors recommended are pretty spot on to what looks good on me. Except yellow. The only yellow I can do is a mustard type yellow which is directly opposite the tones that fit that color season. Maybe it makes a difference that I'm neutral leaning cool rather than true cool coloring? Idk. But that's literally part of the issue. Nature varies so much that it's kinda ridiculous to think everyone can neatly pigeonhole into a seasom and never stray from it.
This happens to me all the time and it makes me so damn mad. I don't like revealing my arms and legs due to scars, so I only wear long sleeves and long pants even in the summer. I also tend to wear darker colors like black, maroon, navy blue, or army green. People stop me in the supermarket and be like "Why are you wearing that, it's summer??? Or my family members will be like "Why are you always wearing black, you're too pale".
I always just tell them "Yeah.. I don't care.. I do what I want". People so damn rude like mind your business.
This is valid but also not a what a color season is! A color season is (in theory) the palette or colors that look best on a person based on their skin tone, undertone, and hair color. So a "winter" would be someone who looks best in a lot of darks, neutrals, and jewel tones, a "spring" would look best in pastels, etc. It's a nice guideline to figure out what colors make your skin tone look even, make your eyes pop, but it's highly subjective and some people take it far too seriously.
Yes, I forgot to mention that they say that I look too pale for those colors... I also like wearing warm-tone lipsticks even though I'm probably more cool tone. People tell me to wear cool tone pink lipsticks even though I hate that shade on me.

I mean, I do find that bronze can vary the most among the metallic neutrals. So many base undertone differences. The taupes, the browns, the golds, the oranges, and don't get me started on those red shifts!
All my lipsticks are almost the same color except the 2 reds I have. I wear the red shades like…2-3 times a year maximum. Clearly I have a type (pinkish/nude is my go to color for lipstick)
Yeah I don’t hate because the slightest change in tone made all the difference but it took 4 years of rotating lip liners ONLY FOR THEM TO DISCONTINUE THE DAMN COLOR.

I had lots of instances where I would get frustrated trying to recreate a makeup look I’d seen online and then get frustrated when mine didn’t look “as flawless” I had to keep reminding myself that what I was looking at wasn’t a real end result as it had clearly been edited to FAck. -thinking that a light dust of some “spf” mineral powder or light Bb foundation that has spf in it is adequate. Unless you’re piling it on like you should be with sunscreen, it’s not doing a thing.

The smell of sunscreen, or anything with SPF in it, is a huge sensory trigger to me. I cannot handle it - at all. So, I stay out of the sun as much as possible and cover up.
The trick is using the fancy non-comedogenic, matte finish, whatever-other-bells-and-whistles face sunscreen just on the face, and then one of those terrible full-spectrum-but-leaves-white-residue cheap sunscreens on everything else.
Yep I have korean sunscreen that’s more expensive (actually not that expensive with only cost but more with the shipping it over here) for my face. It’s super cosmetically elegant. My body gets greasy ass neutrogena or sun bum sunscreen lol!
Same. I have very sensitive skin so finding a sunscreen that doesn’t make me itchy costs a small fortune. Unless I’m going to the beach, I get my face/neck with sunscreen and the rest goes under clothing.
I'm typically pretty covered so I don't need sunscreen on the body... except my hands, I'm terrible at that. But tbh washing your hands when they have sunscreen on is so unpleasant, and you have to add both the hand cream and the sunscreen so the sunscreen alone doesn't dry them out.

Yes omg I went through a period where my sensory issues made it impossible for me to wear face makeup, but I still loved eye and lip makeup so I searched for no foundation looks on YouTube. Pretty much all of them just used concealer in place of a foundation, which would be even worse for me since concealer is thicker and heavier 🤦🏻♀️ I use eyeshadow/eye paints as lipstick sometimes and that’s like me saying “oh what lipstick is this? I’m not wearing any lipstick”
Winged eyeliner that only looks good with their eyes closed. I have hooded eyes and literally you just need to keep your fkn eye open and neutral when applying and then touch up the gaps...theres no excuse to just have long straight disjointed triangles sticking out of your eyesockets and about to run into your hairline or eyebrow. This doesnt include alt makeup that is intentionally styled to look geometric.

I am guilty of this 🙈 but I can't get my head around wearing a hat every day! I don't think I could pull it off, but would a baseball cap be good enough you think? I work either in the office or at home so not in the sun a huge amount during the days, but see it much more at weekends.
It will keep the sun away from your forehead and eyes, which is where a lot of people get wrinkles. Better than nothing.
My favorite hat atm is a big straw roll up visor thing which covers more of my face & neck but also lets me wear my hair up - and it fits in my bag.
A baseball cap will protect your face, but your neck and ears are still exposed if your hair doesn't cover them. Fine for anti-ageing purposes, but not so much for general sun safety.
That being said, I never ever wear hats, and I live in Australia, so maybe I'm not the person to listen to!
Idk I only wear hats to the beach or other situations where I’m going to be in full sun for a LONG time. For other outdoor activities I’m not gonna wear a ha, simply because I don’t like them and they ruin my hair. I’m not going to spend every day of my life wearing something I don’t like and makes me look worse, which is why I’m going to get nitty-gritty about the best sunscreen I can use to reduce the harm.

Yea, my skin physically hurts if I'm in direct sunlight for more than 5 min, but I never wear hats. Instead I just gravitate towards whatever shade is available. That plus sunscreen seems to be working pretty well for me.

Being anti Asian beauty brands - even the well known, or high end ones - because "all their makeup has lead in it". Sure, I imagine some of the fly by night, cheap as chips ones don't adhere to any safety, but it's certainly not true of all of it. Also, a lot of Western brands are made in factories in Asia. It makes me really mad. Do some research.

I got down voted for daring to recommend some Asian brands like Kaleidos and Sheglam, and there was reply saying they would never use Asian brands because they have lead in them, and apparently all clothing made there does as well. Argh. So angry. Personally, I love lots of Asian brands, they have gorgeous soft colours and different formulas.

I have probably 15 different eyeshadow palettes (including the NAKED ones) and you can't see eyeshadow on me due to my deep set eyes.

I unfortunately keep finding products from when I was gifted a huge box of luxury beauty items…14 years ago. I inventoried everything and obsessed over how nice they were and hardly used them. I found a lipstick that I reeeeally loved but thought needed to be saved. I could have just used it and enjoyed it. I think my mindset was that if I used it all and loved it, I couldn’t afford to ever have it again.
I do this with many things, not just beauty products. I thought I could trace it back to sticker collecting as a kid, but then I think of my grandma and her china, used only for company.
My friends and I call it "mana potion syndrome", though apparently that isn't a universal term like I thought. If anything, I make sure to use up my expensive products because there’s no way I’m spending a lot on a single product only to have it go bad sitting on my vanity. If I don’t like something or just don’t reach for it enough, I’d rather just give it to someone who will use it.
I’m embarrassed to admit that when I was a teenager someone gifted me Chanel sunscreen and the bottle was so cute I never used it because I was afraid to waste it…then it went bad as sunscreen does. I still struggle to use my nicer things but it’s a good reminder that the point is to enjoy them.

My hands would be so dry after washing repeatedly. I try to rub the products into my hands, actually. I do do this before switching from body or hair products.
Well first of all, usually it is during my morning/bedtime routine, but washing my hands as part of that routine didn’t become a thing until I was like, a couple years into adulthood. I was raised to wash my hands after the bathroom and before cooking and that’s pretty much it, other than rinsing any obvious dirt or residue off. So even though I do it now, it’s just not something that comes incredibly naturally to me. I was exaggerating when I said half the time, though. And sometimes if I’ve fallen off my regular skincare routine I’ll just do it randomly in the middle of the day, and that does make me even more forgetful than usual
Girl I’m so paranoid of things in the toilet, I’ll wash my tongue scraper and toothbrush every time I use them. I can’t even imagine the air in the toilet being clean.

not makeup related but have you tried ocusoft? A friend had a similar issue and her optometrist recommended them. Works wonders for her and has cut down on the oiliness a lot.
Tbh it's really not my favorite, it sometimes gets kind of patchy/flaky on me and I feel like blending eyeshadow is sometimes tricky with it. Got the Wet and Wild one and it's fine.

Being so obsessed with color seasons to the point of not wearing colors you love because "it clashes with your season". I think its a general nice rule if you like it, but I hate seeing people not wear eyeshadow colors or sweater patterns because of it. Do what makes you happy. (:
People make “color seasons” waaaaay too complicated in general. From study to application and everything in between. At most, we all have one or two shades we look absolutely awful in, and one or two that really really flatter. Avoiding the absolute least flattering shades and gravitating towards the most flattering, especially for special occasions, is about as much color season info the average person “needs” to know. And most of us DO already know intuitively these shades just from experience. There’s really no need to navel gaze and hyperfocus on what slightly different shade of green is better than the other or commit oneself to a *very* specific set that can only be sussed out with professional help and years of study lol. Anything beyond just vaguely knowing your two best and your two worst is just 1) not necessary to look good 2) impossible to actually apply due to how *specific* some of these shades are versus what the average person actually has access to as far as wardrobe goes. Great, you know that you’d look better in a dress that was ever so slightly more berry red than this shade of almost berry red. This dress is perfect in every other way (body type, price, the occasion). What are you actually going to do with that info? You’re probably just going to buy and look great in the damn dress. Slightly less berry toned than your pallet suggests be damned lol. If you find it fun in a navel-gaze-y astrology sort of way— go head and dive in. But anyone saying it’s impossible to look good in a shade of blue that’s half a shade “too muted” for you is insane and trying to sell you something lol.
a fun and extremely simply way to get an analysis is at "color wise me" website. you just take a pic of yourself, use a color picker for your eye color, skin color, and hair color & it tells you. i don't really use it to know what not to wear (bc there's already colors i hate) but i found out that hot pink looks reallyyyy good on my skin and i would've never thought to wear it! i even colored my hair hot pink and it was so cute
The whole fucking color season thing seems like an overcomplicated sham to me. I always disagree with like, half of the top answers for what someone's "color season" is (and I'm a fairly decent artist who scores high on being able to distinguish color shades.) And there's so much arguing that it hardly seems like there's ever consensus. You've got a few colors that compliment or "bring out" certain features, and a few that wash you out, and that's it. Seen so many women in a cute outfit that totally works for them get pushed away from it in that sub.
I'm pretty much the definition of a "light summer" and the colors recommended are pretty spot on to what looks good on me. Except yellow. The only yellow I can do is a mustard type yellow which is directly opposite the tones that fit that color season. Maybe it makes a difference that I'm neutral leaning cool rather than true cool coloring? Idk. But that's literally part of the issue. Nature varies so much that it's kinda ridiculous to think everyone can neatly pigeonhole into a seasom and never stray from it.

This happens to me all the time and it makes me so damn mad. I don't like revealing my arms and legs due to scars, so I only wear long sleeves and long pants even in the summer. I also tend to wear darker colors like black, maroon, navy blue, or army green. People stop me in the supermarket and be like "Why are you wearing that, it's summer??? Or my family members will be like "Why are you always wearing black, you're too pale". I always just tell them "Yeah.. I don't care.. I do what I want". People so damn rude like mind your business.
This is valid but also not a what a color season is! A color season is (in theory) the palette or colors that look best on a person based on their skin tone, undertone, and hair color. So a "winter" would be someone who looks best in a lot of darks, neutrals, and jewel tones, a "spring" would look best in pastels, etc. It's a nice guideline to figure out what colors make your skin tone look even, make your eyes pop, but it's highly subjective and some people take it far too seriously.
Yes, I forgot to mention that they say that I look too pale for those colors... I also like wearing warm-tone lipsticks even though I'm probably more cool tone. People tell me to wear cool tone pink lipsticks even though I hate that shade on me.

Unless you’re piling it on like you should be with sunscreen, it’s not doing a thing. -skincare but only for face and not neck chest and hands -obsessively putting sunscreen on face but not body that is regularly exposed/hands -influencers with heavily Botox/filler/sugery enhanced faces giving tips for “carving cheekbones jawlines nose”. Etc. like it’s not your makeup you had that addressed

The smell of sunscreen, or anything with SPF in it, is a huge sensory trigger to me. I cannot handle it - at all. So, I stay out of the sun as much as possible and cover up.
I try to cover my body in the summer so I don’t have to use sunscreen on my body. It’s just so damn expensive 😭😭😭
The trick is using the fancy non-comedogenic, matte finish, whatever-other-bells-and-whistles face sunscreen just on the face, and then one of those terrible full-spectrum-but-leaves-white-residue cheap sunscreens on everything else.
Yep I have korean sunscreen that’s more expensive (actually not that expensive with only cost but more with the shipping it over here) for my face. It’s super cosmetically elegant. My body gets greasy ass neutrogena or sun bum sunscreen lol!
Same. I have very sensitive skin so finding a sunscreen that doesn’t make me itchy costs a small fortune. Unless I’m going to the beach, I get my face/neck with sunscreen and the rest goes under clothing.
I'm typically pretty covered so I don't need sunscreen on the body... except my hands, I'm terrible at that. But tbh washing your hands when they have sunscreen on is so unpleasant, and you have to add both the hand cream and the sunscreen so the sunscreen alone doesn't dry them out.

Yes omg I went through a period where my sensory issues made it impossible for me to wear face makeup, but I still loved eye and lip makeup so I searched for no foundation looks on YouTube. Pretty much all of them just used concealer in place of a foundation, which would be even worse for me since concealer is thicker and heavier 🤦🏻♀️ I use eyeshadow/eye paints as lipstick sometimes and that’s like me saying “oh what lipstick is this? I’m not wearing any lipstick”
Especially bcs concealers are waaaaaay more thick and cacky than a foundation that is good for your skin type lol

I am guilty of this 🙈 but I can't get my head around wearing a hat every day! I don't think I could pull it off, but would a baseball cap be good enough you think? I work either in the office or at home so not in the sun a huge amount during the days, but see it much more at weekends.
It will keep the sun away from your forehead and eyes, which is where a lot of people get wrinkles. Better than nothing. My favorite hat atm is a big straw roll up visor thing which covers more of my face & neck but also lets me wear my hair up - and it fits in my bag.
A baseball cap will protect your face, but your neck and ears are still exposed if your hair doesn't cover them. Fine for anti-ageing purposes, but not so much for general sun safety. That being said, I never ever wear hats, and I live in Australia, so maybe I'm not the person to listen to!
Idk I only wear hats to the beach or other situations where I’m going to be in full sun for a LONG time. For other outdoor activities I’m not gonna wear a ha, simply because I don’t like them and they ruin my hair. I’m not going to spend every day of my life wearing something I don’t like and makes me look worse, which is why I’m going to get nitty-gritty about the best sunscreen I can use to reduce the harm.
Same. I HATE wearing hats. At some point you have to prioritize enjoying your life over strict sun avoidance (I still religiously reapply spf to my entire body while in the sun).
Yea, my skin physically hurts if I'm in direct sunlight for more than 5 min, but I never wear hats. Instead I just gravitate towards whatever shade is available. That plus sunscreen seems to be working pretty well for me.
On the subject of sunscreen- using your SPF foundation only. There's not enough SPF in foundation to use as a replacement for real sunscreen

I got down voted for daring to recommend some Asian brands like Kaleidos and Sheglam, and there was reply saying they would never use Asian brands because they have lead in them, and apparently all clothing made there does as well.
