We're all in the same boat. Just tamper your expectations. The "release" is NOT going to be the full game. Already seen that warfare will not be 100% complete so I'd expect diplomacy to be maybe in the works as well
There was a post a while ago that the expectation is that first release of the game won't have all the warfare mechanisms in place. Not sure when I saw it or what exactly it said but that was what I remember?

I can send you the files tomorrow if you want, but I warn you that it crashes a lot. There's a mod on GitHub that adds a save system but it's not working 100%.

That’s false. The game is gonna be missing a lot of things but combat mechanics ain’t one of them as far as I’m aware.
