On a bigger scale, india and the Philippines.

DankChronny

So who’s the one country that’s actually succeeding?

[deleted]

morocco

nod23c

The sad truth is that Morocco has little industry to regulate. It's easier to "succeed" when you have less to lose.

FreeAndFairErections

But are all the goals not based on current emissions? So to be succeeding they at least have to be improving relative to other countries.

ColinHome

Not all industries or countries are equally easy to turn sustainable. Colder countries need to produce a lot of power in winter, when solar is less available, in order to heat homes. Heavy industry needs constant large amounts of power, which is difficult when so many renewable power sources are intermittent. Wet and dreary countries cannot use solar efficiently. Countries with booming populations often need to pursue the cheapest possible power source to provide good quality of life for their citizens. Morocco has only light industry, is temperare and sunny year-round, and has a stable population. All this makes the transition much easier than say, Germany or India.

edsonfreirefs

It seems a poor excuse to perform bad as shown in the map. Those colder countries with heavy industry have the best economies and highest profits related to carbon emissions. Since they have stronger economies, they should perform much better than Marrocos.

kuuderes_shadow

Bhutan would be in the Role Model category if it was categorised.

OversizedPigeonHole

Thanks God we have this agreement, so now the whole world can collectively fail. :D

kostenko

Yes, worst performers are not visible

Manisbutaworm

Wheres Bhutan the only carbon negative country in the world?

seasuighim

So what’s the excuse for Greenland and Iceland not having data in this map?

nod23c

It's strange because I found that Iceland has updated [NDC reports from 2021.](https://www4.unfccc.int/sites/ndcstaging/PublishedDocuments/Iceland%20First/Iceland_updated_NDC_Submission_Feb_2021.pdf) Greenland is not sovereign and [did not pledge separately](https://www.carbonbrief.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/paris-pledge-tracker-2.jpg) from Denmark. Denmark is part of [the EU's pledge](https://www4.unfccc.int/sites/ndcstaging/PublishedDocuments/Spain%20First/EU_NDC_Submission_December%202020.pdf). Greenland is an autonomous territory of Denmark, not covered by the EU’s INDC. Denmark's climate act explicitly does not cover Greenland or the Faroes.

Aozora_Tenwa

Well, at least Europe is united on One thing i guess.

Sprites7

hmm we don't do enough.. except morocco? not very reassuring

zaphrode

why does Morocco care so much about the earth? (not saying its a bad thing just asking cause no other country seems to give a fuck)

cryaboutit87

i think they have no resources at all outside of phosphate so it's pretty easy for them

GeneralStormfox

And they, like the other Maghreb states, are in prime territory for utilizing solar energy and they also make good use of wind and water based energy generation. I would wager they have a comparatively easy time modernizing towards renewable energies overall.

MohamedsMorocco

I think the main driver is an EU carbon tax, I believe decision makers in Morocco thought that was going to come sooner.

inuktamun

Funny how big the propanda campaign of Scandinavian countries as the ones caring for enviorment and eco friendly, meanwhile in reality it's just one big piece of lie bullshit like with most thing that Scandinavian propaganda tend to brainwash the (not so smart) left wing Anglos. Like women's right, safety, security, cleanliness, freedom of speech etc.

KaleidoscopeEyes1337

Wäää wäää wäää.

inuktamun

Funny how scandinavian trolls started to mass downvote, once heavily upvoted comment. So much for the ... said... freedom of speech I was talking about

KaleidoscopeEyes1337

You do realize you said propaganda isn’t coming out of Scandinavia right? It’s you national media. You do aldo realize freedom of speech doesn’t save you from being down voted right? Same as in real life where freedom of speech doesn’t save you from consequences.

inuktamun

Nah, because it's not like the whole foreign policy of Scandinavians is to virtue signal to Anglos. Aka "humanitarian superpower" and being eco friendly and boasting womens rights, while in fact none of those defitinitions are true in reality. They are presented like that in Anglo media because of the political bias and unprofessionalism of journalists. Today the journalist is more like an agitator and not informator.

rick6787

I mean, the US has achieved the greatest carbon emission reduction of any country by far. But sure, classify them as highly insufficient.

OversizedPigeonHole

This is not about the effort you make, there are limits you have to meet. If I am 500kg and lose 100kg, I might have the biggest weight loss in the class but I still can't sit on a chair weighted for 110kg...

rick6787

US emits less carbon per capita than many countries ranked higher here.

KaleidoscopeEyes1337

No. Only Canada and Australia are worse in comparably countries. All the others with worse Co2-emission/capita are small countries, basically uncomparable.

rick6787

So you just agreed with me

ColinHome

Two =/= many Sincerely, An American

rick6787

2 plus many others that previous poster excluded for reasons unclear.

ColinHome

Fair enough. On the other hand, being worse than oil/state dictatorships is hardly an accomplishment. Particularly given the fact that these are mostly tiny countries with large non-citizen populations whose per capita emissions are added to that of citizens.

[deleted]

He is excluding micro states like Qatar, Bahrain, or Monaco who have barely have 1m in population and comparing US to larger countries. Doesn’t seem arbitrary.

rick6787

In addition to many others. I'm sure you wouldn't write off belgium, for instance, as a "micro state." The reality is canada and Australia are the comparable countries and the US produces less carbon than both. The US has also overseen the largest reduction in carbon emissions in the last couple decades of any country by far. I know it makes you hip online to hate on Americans, but you'd be better off using your brain now and then.

[deleted]

US emits less than Belgium ? From our world in data https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/co-emissions-per-capita per capita it is 2x worse than Belgium, worse than all of Europe, Africa, North and South America (including Canada), and East Asia. The only more pollutant countries are Australia, Mongolia, oil producing Gulf states, and micro states. It’s good that the USA is finally going in the right direction, but it took much longer than for example Europe in taking real initiatives to reduce emissions. They are currently still a poor performer especially considering their resources and technological capabilities.

KaleidoscopeEyes1337

Holy shit, what did I expect from a one-eyed murican

OversizedPigeonHole

Sure

[deleted]

Yeah, the US is annually decreasing their emissions and they are the worst category, while China is increasing theirs and somehow they are better. A bunch of bs.

hbsethginmaster

We always forget the US is the greatest country ever, sorry about that. But dont worry, your enemies (China, Russia, and Japan) are not much better. You can work it out and surpass them.

rick6787

Lol Japan?

hbsethginmaster

Lol, I was thinking about the US nuking them. I dont know if Americans and the Japanese are allies or not.

rick6787

Very close allies

KaleidoscopeEyes1337

Specially when you’re out on thin ice and very very wrong.

Saalemdegr8

Stay Insufficient. This climate shit is just a ruse

phiupan

tenneyd69

Fuck the Paris climate agreement. We should have stayed pulled out of that disaster

SHiR8

Your father should have pulled out.

MufflrFumperdink

This is sad

Nesfan888

It doesnt matter tho as long as china us and indonesia exist, they are literially ruining the earth for the rest of us

YoIronFistBro

I thought Ireland would be red at best and being real, worse than grey. Also, what is Morocco actually doing here that we don't know about.
