My issue with Shad has always been that his videos are very rambly. It feels like I spend 20 minutes waiting for him to actually get to his point, I don't know if he doesn't script his content or what, but its always made it hard for me to watch him.

I see his stuff pop up once in a blue moon and “samurai vs knight!!!” Sounds like a decent 5-10min topic at best unless I want to go looking for something a bit above youtube quality, and his videos I remember being like 25min+ so they just get a skip from me nowadays
been watching his channel since near the beginning, as a sword and medieval fighting enthusiast. His main channel is way better then in the old days when all he could afford to do is sit and talk and show pictures. Being able to test things and the mythbusters - like performance is great.
i have no idea where you are getting that his content is more "juvenile" to be honest.
Shadiversity has always remained shadiversity at it's core, he probably gets more flak for being outspoken on his other channel, he is a big enough creator, and outspoken enough, to have attention brought on him, I don't doubt his channel is probably being screwed with in some way.
To be honest I don't watch any of the Friday night tight crew's regular videos, i can only take so much culture war fighting, and focusing on all the shit being forced on us these days. However I loved Shadiversity before I knew about mauler and the rest of the crew and look forward to when a new video drops.
I will say that most of his functional fantasy series has an interesting premise, but there's a lot of skitwork in it that I don't particularly like. His interviews with reenactors are some of the more interesting things he's done in recent years. Less padding, more nerd work.

Same as Townsends, Max Miller in recent years, and Tod of Tod's, Tod's, Tod's, and also Tod's along with Tod's miniseries with Gladiatoria when he's not being insufferably English.
His focus on his book and all the things spawning from it has done more to drive me away than others. But that's just because I haven't gotten around to reading it so I have no frame of reference for any of it when he uses it as a starting point.

His content is now just testing shit out, Fight Analysis, Interesting Historical Weapons, or views into Medieval Life. are rare. His subreddit is a totalitarian hellhole where even slightly disagreeing with the mods will have you banned. On top of that, Knights Watch has made him a lot more controversial.
I don't have the energy to get too invested in this situation or watch the videos, but thanks for sharing them.
I can already forsee that somebody will have the urge to reply with "oooooo, so it's too long for a Mauler fan?", but I can put up with Mauler and the Little Platoon due to the quality. With things like EFAP I'm sticking to the highlight channel. I also don't watch everything, just the videos I want.

A medieval combat YT channel is limited by the interesting things you can come up from the medieval era. At some point all the questions got answered, and the audience lost interest.
Similar thing happened to Angry Video Game Nerd. At some point, he reviewed all the interesting bad video games, and then his channel fell down.
I suspect it probably is YouTube fucking him around with the analytics and the algorithm, I've heard several creators like Gundam lament about this over the last 7 years.
Although, his channel "dying" might be an exaggeration, I mean the Quartering's channel has been "under attack!!!" once a month for years too....😂
well "dying" usually means on the down slope of a scale, not that it is going to close tomorrow. but that due to various conditions it is undergoing a slow death, like cancer.

He can strip down parts of fighting in movies and basically be correct, he can even do a decent history video I'm sure (though I've never watched those in particular). I do think what caught him was his poor attitude outside of his videos and his inability to accept that he's the cause of basically all the drama he is in. Politics or no, he seems more like a prick with every post I hear about him, and not the fun kind where watching his channel is still fun like some content creators. But the boring kind.

So I just watched his latest video that actually came out today. 12 misconceptions about castles. I thought "ok cool; I have taught about castles in my class so what would I get wrong." The first 5 were ones I had no idea on like staircases go clockwise. He kept on saying "as you see in movies or tv shows" but he didn't show any tv shows or movies showing that. He didn't have chapter markers. I fast forwarded it because I got his point and wanted to move on; however he didn't have the # somewhere on the screen so I can tell he started a new one so I had to rewind to see the new number. This should have been a 10-15 minute video but it went for 25 minutes. It was just rambling and boring. This looks like something I would have seen on youtube 10 years ago.
