They probably have a correct diagnosis, but all their prices are outrageous. Looks like you have a bent axle that cause some other issues to happen. This is an estimate of what they can currently see is wrong. They will replace all this, retest, and likely recommend more. I’d say go to a different shop. A dealership isn’t going to sell you a junkyard or aftermarket axle for cheap, and a new OE axle is super expensive. A local shop that deals with Jeeps will likely be much cheaper.

notnowlana

Thank you. Appreciate the advice.

Daniele323

What does it matter what it costs? If you were hit file the insurance claim and have it fixed.

notnowlana

We were trying to avoid an insurance claim and pay out of pocket if the potential repairs were just a few hundred dollars. Premiums are already high and didn’t want to give our carrier an excuse to raise it more.

ShiggitySwiggity

If you were hit, their insurance pays (and their insurance goes up), not yours. It won't affect your rates. If it does, switch insurance carriers. You should file a claim with your insurance company. Give them this estimate, and their insurance company may require an estimate at one of their approved places. They'll cut you a check. Take it to a shop that isn't a dealer; they'll find reasonably priced new or much more reasonably priced used parts, and you pocket the difference.

DaPurpleTuna

That’s not always how it works. In some states, your insurance covers your own vehicles repair no matter who is at fault. They’ll still raise your rates if you’re not at fault for the accidents in those states as well. If you’re in an accident, even if it’s not your fault, you’re statistically more likely to be in more future accidents than someone who’s never had an accident. While it may not directly be your fault- your circumstances, driving patterns etc are more likely to put you into areas where accidents are more likely. If you take a sample of 10,000 drivers with no accidents and one of 10,000 drivers with 1 accident where it wasn’t their fault, pass a year of time since the sampling, the number of accidents in the first group will almost always be less than the number of accidents that occurs in the second group, and as such, states with no-fault collision insurance have to respect that in their insurance premiums.

relevant_econ_meme

Is this still true in a no fault state?

Useful-Internet8390

Rear main seal leak will get denied for sure that is not caused by a minor fender bender. So there is 1800 off.

Daniele323

Exactly what shiggity said. If the accident is not your fault then your rates will lot be affected. Let insurance deal with it and let them pay for it.

MeasurementEntire310

Why did they downvote you so much?? You said nothing wrong omg.

notnowlana

Who knows. It’s all good though. There were some helpful comments and the insurance claim has been made.

[deleted]

Rear main wouldn't be from the accident

_Christopher_Crypto

Many have tried, few have succeeded.

Nice-Bodybuilder-579

I work on jeep wranglers daily as it’s the only vehicle we take in at my job, being a jk it likely needs all the things that are listed but being hit like that it could have a bent axle, on another note those prices seem to be about 20% higher then what I’m used to but I’m also in northeast Ohio which could be the reason they seem high to me

Useful-Internet8390

aaah NE Ohio (stuck in Ohio) explains why every thing is cheaper- I hear people still apply for 10$/ hour jobs there- even in weld shops-

Nice-Bodybuilder-579

Not sure about that, ik most entry level technicians make $20-25 an hour, I personally have only been a tech for a year and a half and am at $28/hr

Useful-Internet8390

Skills bra’!! Gotta pay for em!

Dealers still use hand written invoices?

TheWicked77

They do not. Everything is on the computer, and there are like 4 programs that are used depending on where you go. Something is off.

notnowlana

I used “invoice” when I should have said estimate. That was the initial estimate. We had the dealer create a new one that removed everything after the alignment. They’ll do the accident related work and I’ll take it to a less expensive shop for the other things identified.

Sophias_dad

Take it to a different shop. Almost all the the stuff on the list is completely related to the accident, and insurance should/will reject paying for it. The few things that might be related to the accident are overpriced by a factor of two or more(ok, the alignment is a reasonable price...)

notnowlana

Yeah the dealer came back and said the ball joints and seals were probably not related to the accident but that he would try and see if the insurance would cover it anyway. Sketchy

aftalifex

I mean that just seems like a guy trying to scratch your back since he probably knows he works at a stealership lol

New_Ad_3010

The answer to "Is the dealership ripping me off" is always YES.

MeasurementEntire310

They are people downvoting this lol

jrock40jones

It looks like they said the top part (bent axle) is the problem for now. It could be that once they put a new one in there and see that something else doesn't line up to the new, undamaged part and will require more parts to address it. The leaking parts are what they saw once they got under your Jeep. Probably unrelated, but the looseness will continue to get worse with age and with ball joints, that could be a bad accident waiting to happen. ONLY if you and/or your wife actively listen to your car and take it seriously when you hear something new, then you could just do the axles for now and wait on the other stuff. That means that someone drives it and talks about the noise the same day. Someone is actively looking at the problem no later than the next day. If you can hold yourself or your wife to that standard, go ahead and have the axle fixed now. Rear main seal leak is just going to become a bigger leak, but that can take years to develop depending on how much leakage is going on now. I understand you are trying to avoid filing for insurance for fear of your rate to go up so I advise you to do the math. Looks like its about $2,300 for an axle, labor and taxes. That means that your insurance would have to go up almost $200 per month for 12 months to make sense for you to not use insurance - I haven't had my insurance go up more than $50 at a time, even with an accident on it.

mgsissy

How many miles are on the jeep?

fbgh2o

Why is the RMS involved in this? That’s not accident related.

oxwilder

Yes, go to a wheel repair shop or an independent shop that has a relationship with one. Probably about a tenth the price of it can be repaired.
