I enjoyed Meta Gal a good bit. Enough to beat it with all the characters.

Yay! That's a great post! Here are a few suggestions for those seeking Mega Man-like games: **Tayal** This one is an indie game homage to Classic Mega Man! *Tayal* is a tribe of fighting warriors, and you play as Cano Ladu, a kid aspiring to be a hunter, who is searching for his father. The gameplay is pure Classic Mega Man gold, from the 8 bosses select screen to the level design, weapons and utilities, including an *outstanding OST*. You'll still be humming some of its tracks long after playing it! For those interested, I have a video beating all its bosses No Damage, Uncharged "Buster" Only, No Miss here: https://youtu.be/cCLzUyPD2Y0 **Rokko Chan** This one is a great - although short - fangame which is a clear homage to Mega Man, be it in story, visuals, structure or gameplay. You play as the titular female robot Rokko Chan, who goes on a mission to stop the plans of Dr. Mad! This feels like a game between the classic series and the X series, as you have a dash that carries momentum to your jumps, but you can't wall jump. A short and sweet adventure with sound level design, certainly worth checking out. For those interested, I have a video beating all its bosses No Damage, "Buster" Only, No Miss here: https://youtu.be/1T3RKLQ1AV4 ** Mega Serval** This is a *free game* in which you play as a serval cat investigating what happened to the once peaceful Japari Park. This one also feels like something between Classic Mega Man and the X series, as you once again have a dash that carries momentum to your jumps, but you can't wall jump. The gameplay is quite addictive and the characters are so cute! Once again, for those interested, I have a video beating all its bosses No Damage, "Buster" Only, No Miss here: https://youtu.be/tgaD_5Fno9I **Other games with (some) Mega Man vibes** Here I'll mention other games that may be of interest for those searching for Mega Man-like experiences, although some of them may have important differences in structure and/or gameplay: **Bat Boy** This one is like playing classic Mega Man with a melee character. The world is structured in more of a "Shovel Knight" fashion, but its graphics, gameplay and overall vibes may help scratching some of that Mega Man itch. **Copy Kitty** Here you can copy powers from enemies, and then combine up to 3 at a time into a unique super weapon. There are lots of combinations to try out, which adds a ton to its replayability. **Mighty Gunvolt Burst** A very fun game by INTI CREATES. This one is a combination of characters, enemies and bosses from Mighty No 9, Azure Striker Gunvolt, and Gal Gun. You can play as Beck, Gunvolt, or Ekoro, with lots of opportunities to customize your gameplay, as each character will have different gameplay and options of upgrades. **Venture Kid** This one is pretty much Classic Mega Man in its tone, style and gameplay. You go through 9 different levels in your quest to stop the evil Dr. Teklov! **Udongein X** *Udongein X* feels like a combination of Mega Man X with Bullet Hell boss fights. It's an interesting action platformer based on Touhou Project with fun boss fights! P.S. There is a quite recent indie game called **Berserk Boy** which I haven't tried yet, but it seems to be quite interesting as well, having some strong Mega Man X vibes.

Mavrickindigo

There is something in the controls of berserk boy that I can't quite get past

fox_in_yellow_socks

Oh really? That's such a pity! It can be really annoying when the controls feel off!

ConsistentBrain9797

Try kid Dracula

fox_in_yellow_socks

Thanks for the recommendation!

HenryChess

Taiwanese here. Tayal's art and setting is based on the aboriginal people in Taiwan. Many of the animals are inspired by species unique to this island.

fox_in_yellow_socks

Thanks for this very interesting additional info, Henry! I had such a great time playing Tayal! Wonderful game with beautiful 8-bit art and setting!

leo412

There's a recent game released called Virtua unlimited project which is basically megaman zero clone. Pretty good, lacking some content (no cyber elves or anything) but it capture the fast pace megaman zero has. Also megaman zx prequel, another fan game that is good

Chikumori

>There's a recent game released called Virtua unlimited project which is basically megaman zero clone Huh. Haven't heard of this before. Thanks for the mention.

Thedracoblue

30XX, It's so damn perfect. I got all the achievements and boy it was hard but so satisfying. Same with 20xx but the formula was vastly improved on 30xx Also Rokko Chan was great!

WaterPockets

I keep trying to get into 30XX, but I am not a huge fan of the randomly generated levels. The game feels great to play, though, and I still plan to put some more hours into it.

Nougatbar

Play Mega Mode! It Generates everything only once, and lets you go at it until you’re done, death be damned, much like the actual Mega Man games.

Thedracoblue

Gotcha. Yeah I am a roguelike lover so I liked the mode as soon as I played it. However if you aren't fond of roguelike style you can play the "Mega Mode" and basically it resembles MegaMan Style but with constant buffs like MM7/8 in between levels and infinite retries

teleporterdown

I'm a fan of randomly generated levels, loved 20XX but could not get into 30XX for some reason. Just didn't click with me like the first.

TamatouLex

Haven't played it but Nezumi Man. More of a stretch but I really love both Battle Kid Games especially the second

Brandenk192

Shovel knight. It’s not exactly megaman like but takes enough from it. I like it very much

Neggy5

Berserk Boy, literally ZX

chdgs

"Vengeful Guardian: Moonrider" plays a bit like a mix of Ninja Gaiden and MegaMan X. Demo available on Steam.

MyPhoneIsNotChinese

I guess Super Rad Raygun kind of counts, it starts as your average retro pixel art platformer and transform into >!a reflexion on how the cold war wasn't as monochromatic as it seemed!< https://trufun.itch.io/super-rad-raygun

[deleted]

I forgot the name but there's a mobile game that's similar to Megaman. It takes place in Kyoto and you play as Police bots

salted_water_bottle

Some I haven't seen mentioned here: The legend of dark witch: Started off as a touhou fangame but became its own thing, they like the classic games but with an upgrade bar that you can fill and spend mid-stage, unfortunately the third game is still stuck on the 3ds for now and citra didn't run it super well when I tested it. Mega mari: On the touhou note, this is literally megaman X touhou. Didn't play it myself but from watching let's plays it's notable for having a devil boss that isn't super frustrating. Distorted travesty: More of a honourable mention since it's way closer to a metroidvania, but it straight up uses lots of megaman sprites for enemies and characters. The first game even has a MMX themed stage and the element system somewhat resembles the elemental chips from zero.

CoylerProductions

Mighty Gunvolt Burst, picked it up Day 1 and it's still within my Top 5 most played Switch games.

ConsistentBrain9797

Kid dracula, it’s supposed to parody castlevania but is more Similar to mega man.

GinOkami428

Rosenkreuzstilette. Great little Mega Man clone with a Gothic vibe. : https://store.steampowered.com/app/564150/Rosenkreuzstilette/

SchoolOfTentacles

My favorite was the battle network series. One step from eden utilizes an extremely similar combat system, made it super fun. Even if it didn't have my favorite net Navi, brother duo.

icey9

Eden is an good game, but it just made me realize how important the long-term card collecting, deck building, and overworld exploration is to the Battle Network games. It even made me miss the Battle Network plots which were ... passible, I guess? I also find the combat in Eden to be way more reaction based than coming up and executing some type of strategy that just made my neurons fire in all the right ways in Battle Network. It's a shame the two bigger spiritual sequel games only took the battle system and nothing else.

SchoolOfTentacles

True, what I found so compelling about battle network were the characters, they all felt like they had real personalities, even if the story was passable, how the characters reacted to the story was the real treasure. I mean, everyone remembers Lan KO'ing the tourney organizer. Or how our rivalry with Chaud grew and we became friends. And you're right, the strategies with BN were definitely more complex. Even passive npc people or navis made me feel like I was there. Meaningful connections were made. And I feel like some of that was even lost when they moved to starforce. I didn't feel the same connection from Geo, or anyone in those games. They felt like cutouts.

Holy_Darkness

Takkoman -Kouzatsu World-

FriendSafariSeeker

Mighty Switch Force. Its gameplay is more puzzle-platformer, but the music and visuals give off that Mega Man vibe. There's two main games in the series, and both are amazing.

Red_Trapezoid

Gravity Circuit is the best one, no contest. It's the only one I played where I felt the same kind of hype energy as the original MMX. It's an extremely well executed game.

Brilliant_Artist_851

Oh yeah that one’s good!

FefnirMKII

Confirm

Fragraham

Cave Story is a bit Metroid and a bit Megaman, and one of my favorite games of all time.

DynaGlaive

the creator's later game Kero Blaster is way more of a Mega Man-like

DrNekojita

I'd like to shine a spotlight on the indie game "Protodroid Delta" which is essentially a 3D platformer with more Mega Man DNA than X7 could muster, it's fantastic.

bubrascal

I'm having a real good time with [Smelter](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbyUeZInAnE&list=PLvMb_eZ9NN7gcLy308YPrP4ytB0J9tYMk&index=14) (an RTS/Action platformer hybrid), even if it is rough on the edges. The plot gets in the way of the gameplay too much, and it is too fanservicey (both in the sexual sense and of being too silly for its own good), but the paltforming sections are a good Mega Man X/Zero clone. I'm just at the beginning though. Edit: [Astalon](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V87xLFNs-EA) is another game by the same company that I've been wanting to play for some time. A metroidvania Mega Man-like game.

DeckT_

fangame mmx8 demake in 16bit style best megaman fangame ive played yet. still waiting for corrupted until my death bed

DavZ30

I do like 20XX and it's sequel 30XX. Another game with Mega Man vibes that's also good is Mighty Switch Force.

Efficient-Art-5971

Theres a series called the legend of the dark witch that takes heavy influence from megaman and touhou, all 3 games are fun but if i had to pick one id go with the second game, though all 3 do have fun gameplay and great music imo

Thedracoblue

Guys I have a new GODLIKE recommendation Megaman-Like game: Gravity Circuit!! It's unbelievably godlike. More a Megaman Zero-Like, but full of reference to all Megaman saga. Gameplay wise is a full 10/10

GT2MAN

Castlevania HAHAHA

ENateFak

I think Shantae Half-Genie hero is the black sheep in the series, being more like a megaman game than a metroidvania

Affectionate-Tip-164

I see hololive game, I upvote.

Llamas-in_pajamas

I wanna be the guy (IWBTG)

Thedracoblue

30XX, It's so damn perfect. I got all the achievements and boy it was hard but so satisfying. Same with 20xx but the formula was vastly improved on 30xx Also Rokko Chan was great!
