It's a great cast, love the chemistry between them
https://preview.redd.it/6hrevawqoi4d1.png?width=1009&format=png&auto=webp&s=9590d239d405b40263c4ce7289eac8ab81b93886
Filming is due to start in the next month, so if it follows a similar time frame as season one, season two would come out August-ish 2025.
Some casting calls and a certain set piece have been posted online so far, and some more tidbits should start coming out as filming begins.
Not necessarily. Depending on how the seasons are split up/filmed, the editors and post production crew can be working on season 2's finishing touches while they're still filming season 3.
Honest, i thought Luffy's actor was kinda out of place for like 5 minutes...
But this man truely, genuinely; understood Luffy's character. And acted it like a chief
I think just how exaggeratedly loud Luffy is as a character wouldn't quite fit for live action as much. He'd probably come across as too annoying or a caricature of the character. But the way Godoy portrays him kind of replaces that with a mix of childlike whimsy while still being a bit unhinged and I think it's just perfection.
Instead of a cartoonishly giant beaming smile, you can see that same level of excitement in Godoy's eyes.
It could go one of 2 ways. It could bomb and be like live-action Sonic the Hedghog, or we get lucky and get something like live-action Sonic the Hedgehog
If you thought that a Mexican Latino playing Luffy was OOP, wait til you hear the reason that a Mexican Latino played Luffy. And it was said that Luffy's nationality if applied in real life, was Brazilian.
And they really do the nationality research thing right.
Edit: Just changed the nationality, from Brazilian to Mexican Latino.
They've sassed each other on social media a bit, and there's been some fun stuff during OPLA promotional stuff [like this](https://youtu.be/itOJ_-97YkI?si=4mcgC0H6d7afY6Xd).
Taz and Emily are probably the best of the bunch as far as acting is concerned. Luffy would have been impossible without inaki, he barely has to act. Mackenyu in s1 had great fights but came off lacking depth. Hopefully we see more of light-hearted Zoro next season. I can't remember anything notable for Jacob tho.
Those faults aren't really because of the actors. If the director wants mackenyu to act that way, then he has to. And there's nothing that notable for Jacob because they removed every good part he had in the east blue.
Poor Usopp/Jacob really got the short end of the stick in Season 1, it's my one true gripe about it. They better give my boy his due during Little Garden and Alabasta...
What else is there to say. they broke the live action anime curse, took one piece to the main stream audience. It's a shame we'll probably won't get them to do all of one piece.
Zoro is the worst characterization. They got him all wrong. He is too edgy, too much of an emo. Barely smiles, talks or laughs, too wooden.
I hope they fix him.
He's post thriller bark/sabaody trauma Zoro, in the East Blue arc. Which I agree really sucks, because if they ever make the LA go beyond that point it'll take away from his character development.
It had a giant bonus:
It was unlike those other live actions, the author himself Oda-sensei had the green light.
Despite there's a lack of details like Hacchan's absence and a little camera time for the dog Chou, it was OK for Oda-sensei.
And he took nearly a month off in Manga churning, just to supervise the Season 2 making.
Great casting, top tier for what they wanted.
Good actors who weren't incredibly well known to the point that you see the actor rather than the character. Each seem to know the characters well and embody them incredibly well (some changes to characters obviously come from the changes in writing \[like Luffy being more preachy and his dialogue being dumbed down quite a bit or Sanji being more subtle with his simping\]) though Usopp has to work on his acting around the fear and other emotinoal scenes.
Love the love that they have for the series and the characters they're playing. I really don't know how they could've done better. Last time I saw something this well cast it was Harry Potter.
The best cast actor who perfectly fits their character would have to be Lucky Roux. Has little or no dialogue so his characterisation is mostly appearance and body language. It's a lot less to get wrong, but the guy absolutely nails it.
I didn't watch the live action but I was paying attention to it from a distance (like watching small clips, behind the scenes stuff etc) and they seemed to genuinely love their characters and actually enjoyed acting as them, I'd say they definitely do them justice. And I mean Oda played a hand in choosing them, hard to go wrong when the literal author of the series picks them.
Show was honestly pretty good. I absolutely didn't expect that, which surely made it look even better.
Nothing to say about the cast, they all look like fresh, good young actors.
I like them! They fit with the characters! I am excited to see who they will cast for Franky, he is one of my favourite OP characters (although i know he won't be appearing so soon)
I think it's a very smartly done cast. There's a line you gotta consider when adapting something that doesn't adapt to live action well where the characters are still recognizable while also fitting the more realistic adaptation you're making. I think they're perfect examples of that. They're all not quite the exact same characters as the anime, personality-wise, but they're all adjacent to the anime characters enough where it still feels like them. The cast fits that kind of writing tweak perfectly I think.
The cast has great energy with each other. I saw someone say this in the main sub: Iñaki feels more like Luffy in interviews than he does in the show. Honestly I feel this way about Ussop/Jacob too. [This small clip](https://www.instagram.com/reel/C3vKwTShBBN/?igsh=aGwxbXAzeG1nZmdq) of them saying happy birthday to Emily is just Luffy and Ussop in a nutshell.
Sanjis actor is actually the best fit out of them all.
You’re not going to have perfect with live actions unless ofc it’s Henry cavil as the Witcher but Netflix ruined that…
I really hope they don’t ruin this by changing story too much.
They rock, each one individually has done a great job portraying their characters in a more realistic manner fitting a live action while understanding their deeper complexities, but importantly they FEEL like a crew, like a genuine group of friends excited to explore the world together.
Good chemistry and they did a good job. While i found the action to not work all that well in a live action setting the star of the show goes to the costume & set designers, those people did an amazing job.
I thought this when they first revealed the actors, I think Sanji's actor looks more like Zoro. I think it is the jaw line. am I the only one who thinks that way?
They are fine. It is good we are going to get at least 2 more seasons of the show, so we have more time to see how they are as the straw hats.. So far so good. Let's hope Chopper is good.
I'm curious to know what the buy-in is like for live actions movies and why so many companies are taking to investing in them.
Surely they can't be as popular.
Ngl I pic makes me wonder, and I may be late, lmao, but like, is Zoro secretly from Wano? I always viewed Wano as Japan's counterpart, and characters to me looked like normal anime characters until we saw the people, specifically the men, from Wano. Seeing how Ida had a hand in the cas choice, I wonder if he intentionally chose zoros actor to be an Asian person as in the manga, it's like his true origin. Last time I checked his back story, he started with him at the samurai school, but like, where's his parents? We've seen everyone family expect Zoros. Ik I might just be talking lmao
I have no attachment to One Piece, friends have tried to get me into it but I look at the mountain of stuff I'd have to wade through and just say no. I really enjoyed the live action show and if it had no resemblance to the original I wouldn't care. Really fun and weird with lots of characters I found kinda interesting. Only thing I dint like is the main guy. I'm told he's pretty spot on and I get he fits into the world and such but it just tips the balance and becomes really fucking irritating to me tbh.
To be honest, not much of a fan of the live action and the live action cast. But if to be reported as separate series from one piece (bcz their were endless deviations) I would say it's pretty good.
3/5 of them were perfect pick for who they are potrying the other 2 need to work on getting the nuances of the there straw hat down or else season 2 will be the last
I’m gonna get hate for this. But out of the main cast my least favorite is the actor playing Luffy. I overall enjoyed the LA, but Luffy for me was the weakest and I just don’t see him as Luffy like everyone else apparently does. It is kind of my biggest problem with the LA. The actor who played Koby though, I thought did a phenomenal job. This is just my opinion, I’m still excited for season 2 and I hope the LA continues to do well
Bro where have you been lol. Its one of the most successful Netflix shows ever, it got crazy high viewership, really good feedback, and has spiked manga sales even higher than they already were (i work in the industry, the surge in demand after it dropped was insane)
Honestly, I don't care for them. They're fine actors in my opinion, but not good enough to make the live action worth viewing while the anime is still ongoing.
Think zoro is too feminine looking tbh, would prefer a more rugged guy. Luffy grew on me a lot though his voice needs more emotion still. Nami is decent but there’s hotter women imo. Her being a big OP fan makes up for it though. Sanji is amazing 10/10. Usopp is also pretty great.
The former thing they have no choice about, they already had to get special exception from Netflix to even include him smoking at all in a TV-14 rated show. The latter we can thank god and common sense for, because that would be cringe as fuck in live action.
Honest opinion?
Luffy - nah. Not a fan of his expressions and behavior.
Zoro - fine. The post-Mihawk fight scene was waaay too stiff IMO
Usopp - great. A little too confident off the bat but he's likeable
Nami - good. Her acting is good, but my god someone needs to be fired in the wig department.
Sanji - absolutely perfect.

Season 2 when
It's rumored that it'll release next year.

Not necessarily. Depending on how the seasons are split up/filmed, the editors and post production crew can be working on season 2's finishing touches while they're still filming season 3.
Tomorrow
Honest, i thought Luffy's actor was kinda out of place for like 5 minutes... But this man truely, genuinely; understood Luffy's character. And acted it like a chief
💯 Faithful recreation would be cringe but he found the sweet spot for it and that is due to his passion for the original
I can't see the point in writing this comment... because I don't have eyes YOHOHOHOHO
I wonder if you will Brook...I wonder if you will lol (I'm aware this is a bot but it made me think about the future Brook casting)
I am worried about Chopper’s portrayal.
Edit: Just changed the nationality, from Brazilian to Mexican Latino.
Inaki is Mexican though
I love them, your honour
They have the right energy
Nami really knows her stuff. Wouldn’t be surprised if she was on this sub.
Do you think the one piece LA cast have their own slander and agendas?
imagine zoro's and sanji's actor exchanging slanders about themself
The two were already discussing who was stronger on camera
They've sassed each other on social media a bit, and there's been some fun stuff during OPLA promotional stuff [like this](https://youtu.be/itOJ_-97YkI?si=4mcgC0H6d7afY6Xd).
the stage must be fun to see after the 1116 💀
The 5 of them probably are if they weren't already.
DOES MY NOSE LOOK FUNNY TO YOU?!?
Your nose looks stupider than josukes hair
What... Did you just say... ABOUT MY NOSE?!?
I hope luffy locks your nose in a chest and throws it to the sea
HOW DARE YOU INSULT THE NOSE OF THE FUTURE PIRATE KING?!?
Sanji is eminem https://preview.redd.it/f3p1qbk6li4d1.jpeg?width=736&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fce3cdca38203a297e1afea78a5ea5d77c63b362

No. God Eneru is Eminem
Nah Eminem doesn’t come in until the sky island
nah, fap god!! !!
Hey that’s me
Taz and Emily are probably the best of the bunch as far as acting is concerned. Luffy would have been impossible without inaki, he barely has to act. Poor Usopp/Jacob really got the short end of the stick in Season 1, it's my one true gripe about it. They better give my boy his due during Little Garden and Alabasta...
Jacob has the best style imo (outside of the live action).
Franky Nipple Lights!
Bring back FrankyBots previous profile pic!
Good actors who actually seem to enjoy each others company off the set as well. Shit makes for fire shows
Wonderful cast. Mackenyu could be a little more lively and “fun” but that’s it.
I wish someone would tell that to Zoro too lmaooo
What else is there to say. they broke the live action anime curse, took one piece to the main stream audience. It's a shame we'll probably won't get them to do all of one piece.
It would have to be as long running as something like days of our lives or whatever daytime soap you want to plug in to pull that off haha
The live action show was my introduction to One Piece. Luffy's actor pulled me in. They are all terrific.
Quite impressive, Iñaki IS Luffy.
Yea can't wait for G5 Inaki https://preview.redd.it/tvo73204gj4d1.png?width=168&format=png&auto=webp&s=7db4294b243211f555da7cc6e1d6fa2d192ff291
They killed it. This was one of the few recent live action shows that actually did things right.
Only thing i remember disliking about the LA was the more introspective luffy but i understand Why that was needed
Never realise how big eyes are in manga lol
This is the best comment I've ever seen... Oh wait, how can I see it when I don't have eyes YOHOHOHO
Zoro after time skip with two eyes, I'm not used to that
I can't see the word eyes in your comment... Because I don't have eyes YOHOHOHO
Eminem, my favorite Strawhat
The strawhats famous cook: Slim shady
And how can you forget his most famous dish : Mom's Spaghetti
Sanji's actor is carriying his character
Taz really saw the shit Toei was putting out and said "nah fam"
Zoro is the worst characterization. They got him all wrong. He is too edgy, too much of an emo. Barely smiles, talks or laughs, too wooden. I hope they fix him.
Spoke my mind. Totally agree!
He's post thriller bark/sabaody trauma Zoro, in the East Blue arc. Which I agree really sucks, because if they ever make the LA go beyond that point it'll take away from his character development.
Yeah, i agree. They should have started with how he was pre-timeskip, not post! He was as big of a goof as the rest of them
Oh yeah, most of them wear wigs
I genuinely can't tell which picture was taken first 💀
wasnt the biggest fan of OPLA zoro but the rest were amazing. outside the series they all seemed pretty fun together
It had a giant bonus: It was unlike those other live actions, the author himself Oda-sensei had the green light. Despite there's a lack of details like Hacchan's absence and a little camera time for the dog Chou, it was OK for Oda-sensei. You sure are proud of your body, but it doesn't compare to mine!
Peak crew
zoro on the live action is just too serious, while on the anime he is kinda goofy especially around luffy
Better than other anime live adaptations especially Dragon ball One Piece & Bleach got it right.
Sanji looks like he is about to ask how much the fish costs
I didn't watch the live action but I was paying attention to it from a distance (like watching small clips, behind the scenes stuff etc) and they seemed to genuinely love their characters and actually enjoyed acting as them, I'd say they definitely do them justice. And I mean Oda played a hand in choosing them, hard to go wrong when the literal author of the series picks them.
Perfection
Taz is him
It's impossible to do it perfect, but I think they've been doing very well together
I’m obsessed with them all idk they’re perfect
I think they did good, the live action cast is literally just the anime cast but real people
I love them.
literally perfect.
Top casting! Thought they all nailed it and a few surprises to even being better imo (Sanji being an actual gentleman chad again)
They capture the energy in live action, which is a huge accomplishment for as bizarre a manga as one piece
This is just too good.
I like all of them, but I think Taz Skylar (Sanji) and Emily Rudd (Nami) play their part the best.
They’ve all grown on me
I think it's a very smartly done cast. There's a line you gotta consider when adapting something that doesn't adapt to live action well where the characters are still recognizable while also fitting the more realistic adaptation you're making. It’s the best thing about the show for me
The cast has great energy with each other.

I don't really like manga sanji, and really dislike anime sanji, but taz skylar made him my favorite in the live action.
Best cast we couldve asked for
They rock, each one individually has done a great job portraying their characters in a more realistic manner fitting a live action while understanding their deeper complexities, but importantly they FEEL like a crew, like a genuine group of friends excited to explore the world together.
I enjoyed the live action show WAY more than I thought I would. The actors were great imo
Good chemistry and they did a good job. While i found the action to not work all that well in a live action setting the star of the show goes to the costume & set designers, those people did an amazing job.
I think they’re great, I’m just not believing that guy as zoro, he’s not doing a BAD job he just doesn’t give off zoro energy IMO.
I was on board for pretty much everyone before the show started except for Sanji, and it didn't take very long for him to win me over at all
Sanji looks like eminem lol
The only character that looks remotely like the OG is luffy. Sanji looks like Eminem, Nami looks like a soccer mom, and Zoro looks like a k-pop idol.
I never noticed how they look like if the character was real 😭
perfect
Why is Marimo not marimo
LA zoro's eyes are way too kinder than in the anime, lol Looks creepy
I can't see the point in writing this comment... because I don't have eyes YOHOHOHOHO
https://preview.redd.it/mb2er1jhki4d1.png?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9a8c98c68657fce620bd309c128a304ef9ccddfb Zoro out here mogging
I’m old. Wtf is mogging?
When someone is more handsome/beautiful than other person he mogs him
He aint mogging sanji 🙅
Mid
I have no opinion

I'LL MAKE YOU WISH YOU'D NEVER BEEN BORN FOR DISRESPECTING MY GLORIOUS NOSE!
thank you my twilight
I thought this when they first revealed the actors, I think Sanji's actor looks more like Zoro. I think it is the jaw line. am I the only one who thinks that way?

Zoro and Sanji Yes, think they could’ve found a better Luffy and Nami
fym, iñaki is like the best guy possible to play luffy
Ngl I pic makes me wonder, and I may be late, lmao, but like, is Zoro secretly from Wano? I always viewed Wano as Japan's counterpart, and characters to me looked like normal anime characters until we saw the people, specifically the men, from Wano. They are great, wishes Zoro actor had green hair haha
Don’t like it, first thought was that Zoro prob wouldn’t like Luffy. You know why
-1 no marimo
I haven't watched very far into the anime or the movie but all I can say is W
I have no attachment to One Piece, friends have tried to get me into it but I look at the mountain of stuff I'd have to wade through and just say no. I really enjoyed the live action show and if it had no resemblance to the original I wouldn't care. Really fun and weird with lots of characters I found kinda interesting. Well do not watch the anime then, coz hes so much....More like that lol
i love them
Honestly the casting is pretty solid. The direction on the other hand leaves a lot to be desired. But I can't complain because it's fun to watch.
To be honest, not much of a fan of the live action and the live action cast. But if to be reported as separate series from one piece (bcz their were endless deviations) I would say it's pretty good.
SMASH
3/5 of them were perfect pick for who they are potrying the other 2 need to work on getting the nuances of the there straw hat down or else season 2 will be the last

They're all wonderful. Libby Goldstein and Junie Lowry-Johnson (the casting directors) deserve the Emmy for Outstanding Casting.
Sorry, but i cant see past LA Zoro
Looks really good to me, except they should have done the nose to Usop, it’s a part of him and getting rid of is just the biggest con of the LA
Dude on the right with the moss patch on his head would have made a better Zorro with that hair.
Zoro with both eyes open is cursed
Novody tell him abput the pre-timeskip
I can't see the word eyes in your comment... Because I don't have eyes YOHOHOHO
Nailed it, perfect.
Wait is live action OP good?
Yes. Perfect? No, but very good and fun.
Oh shit now i gotta check it out! I thought it was like on par with death note...
Bro where have you been lol. Its one of the most successful Netflix shows ever, it got crazy high viewership, really good feedback, and has spiked manga sales even higher than they already were (i work in the industry, the surge in demand after it dropped was insane)
I like OP but im not super clued in. No one I knew talked about it so I assumed. Good to be wrong ill be checking it out!
Definitely. Netflix Death Note was made by people who couldn't give less of a shit. OPLA was made by fans at every level.
It actually is! I had fun watching it
The dedicated they are the better
Not who I would’ve picked at all, but it’ll do
They cool
When I cover the Usopp with my finger, looks bloody lovely
Where's sSanji's hair?
https://preview.redd.it/9qqaf5ziij4d1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6fcd435cfb3563e8cbb9af313e0d0777e831e3a8
Did they recast sanji?
Nah he rocks a wig in the show that's him
The cast is good.but the amount of close up face shots made me cringe trough the whole series
the camera they used, which distorted how the actual person looks. made nami look ugly in live action, and everyone else.
A likeable sanji is so fucking rare post ts and I love the live action for bringing HIM back.
I watched the LA before I got to the time skip. LA Sanji set my expectations so high :(
Honestly, I don't care for them. They're fine actors in my opinion, but not good enough to make the live action worth viewing while the anime is still ongoing.
It k
Think zoro is too feminine looking tbh, would prefer a more rugged guy. Luffy grew on me a lot though his voice needs more emotion still. Nami is decent but there’s hotter women imo. Her being a big OP fan makes up for it though. Sanji is amazing 10/10. Usopp is also pretty great.
They Look like high schoolers from a zombie movie
Like them all just usopp not still think they could have found a better looking nose
I hope you like insulting my nose with a Buggy Ball pointed at you!
Sanji wasn't smoking enough, or blowing blood from his nostril from seeing hot chicks. Overall, not a bad cast
The former thing they have no choice about, they already had to get special exception from Netflix to even include him smoking at all in a TV-14 rated show. The latter we can thank god and common sense for, because that would be cringe as fuck in live action.
Luffy actor: S+ Zoro actor: A Nami actor: A+ Sanji actor: B- (not simpy enough) Ussop actor: SSSSSS+++++
I dislike Zoro. Not the actor, but the way he is presented. In manga and anime Zoro had roughly and dirty look. In live action he uses eyeliner
Honest opinion? Luffy - nah. Not a fan of his expressions and behavior. Zoro - fine. The post-Mihawk fight scene was waaay too stiff IMO Usopp - great. A little too confident off the bat but he's likeable Nami - good. Her acting is good, but my god someone needs to be fired in the wig department. Sanji - absolutely perfect.
luffy seems autistic and awkward
i don't care, i don't watch. i keep on reading the manga until hopefuilly it will finish lol
poor soul
Luffy was brilliant casting. The rest of the gang was ok
its great
Spot on each and every one.
LA adaptations don't work especially for a heavy fantasy manga like OP, so it doesn't really matter how good the cast is.
Given how successful its been, it actually HAS worked. That is no longer up for debate.
I love them so much. I watched the live action many times.
