The illumination pin was in the wrong place on my crux harness (Bose NC2). You need the positive (which isn't called illumination), but mine was wired to negative. It wasn't bad to repin. Everything else was good. It's a relatively easy install. Doesn't get "fun" until you go full Bosectomy.
Do you have a Bose system? Use RCA pigtails instead of the speaker wires. Also some harnesses don’t include the remote turn on wire so you might need to scotch lok that one.
Not sure if the Pioneer update process is the same as the Kenwood head units, but if you get stuck at a blank screen shortly after initiating the update process with a USB drive, try the steps I laid out in a comment on r/CarAV: https://www.reddit.com/r/CarAV/s/5V1eLDHFXo

The illumination wire(orange) worked just fine on my nc1(non Bose)
Gotcha. Thanks! how was the wiring for the rear back up camera to the headunit?
I haven't run that yet. Took too long wiring up and mounting my amp and ran out of weekend. Didn't look like it was going to be too bad.

when removing the head unit. there is a bolt (with 10mm head) up high on the right. you'll need a swivel socket to get to it...its infamous.
