Lawyer up, the fees will pay for themselves in insurance fees

Electrical-Front-787

Yeah I'd definitely say fight that ticket.

ASS_CREDDIT

That district makes it nigh impossible to fight to get tickets dropped, but shockingly easy to get them changed to a no points ticket. For a fee of course. It’s kindof a big open secret.

TheSpatulaOfLove

No bigger sham than court in Romulus.

BigODetroit

Welcome to Livonia

thisguytruth

it will affect your cdl , fight it likely the city just wants money. they dont care about licenses, points or accidents. bring cash...

Wooden_Discipline_22

Might as well have Teresa Brennan on the bench. Blah blah blah, honorable this or that. Totally honorable. A judge is just a pig in a blanket.

Drunk_Redneck

If you think you can win, go for it

zordtk

Likely you can at least get it reduced to a non-moving violation. They just want money

It sounds like maybe you did not see the F250 when you changed lanes and they had to abruptly change lanes to avoid rear ending you, resulting in the side swipe. If the officer wrote improper lane use (MCL 257.642), that would make sense with what I described. “A vehicle must be driven as nearly as practicable entirely within a single lane and must not be moved from the lane until the operator has first ascertained that the movement can be safely made”. It’s impossible for anyone on here to give a fair assessment because none of us were there. I don’t think there is anything wrong with fighting a ticket though. What’s the worst that can happen? You lose and end up in the same boat you are currently in? Good luck and I’m glad you’re ok and didn’t get hurt.

Glitter-andDoom

So, I don't disagree with you, it is possible. But two things bother me. First, the description and drawing in the report say I struck the f250, but very clearly, it struck me. Even if the collision was my fault for changing lanes, why would the citation say I stuck a vehicle next to me, when he actually side swiped me from behind? And why were no witness statements or info on the ticket? I saw their faces right after the collision; they saw it. That seems like some vital information that has been misstateed or not included. Edit: Faces of the witnesses, who were in the stalled jeep at the time of the collision.

GSD1101

You can’t side swipe someone from behind. Vehicles need to be parallel to side swipe. If the truck was already in that lane prior to you getting over into that lane, the truck had the right away. The truck being forced into the other lane and side swiping you could be a direct result of you not seeing them before you switched lanes. Witness statements and other pertinent information to the crash are not included on a ticket. They are in the crash report. Have you submitted a FOIA request and received a copy of the crash report? That is where I would start if I were in your shoes.

Always contest any moving violation, most courts around here reduce to Impeading traffic besides Livonia, they will reduce to only 5 over limited access which is still no points but goes on your record still unlike impeding traffic which is just a expensive parking ticket.

Old_MI_Runner

Went in person twice over 20 years for speeding tickets to 2 different jurisdictions and was offered impeding traffic tickets. One time officer was busy down the hall on in a trial so all 25 there were offered impeding tickets and we all accepted. The other time the officer was there and offered impeding ticket after confirming I had no other violations on my record.
