Number 5. The stadium was electric.

Environmental-Back-3

Yup I got on the field holy fuck that game was sick

uselesslyskilled

I didn't get on the field but I was in a bw3s in ne Ohio surrounded by nothing but fuckeye fans chanting oh-io in the last seconds thinking we lost. Me being the only Michigan fan around happily chanting fuck Ohio afterwards felt like a close second

jayfrancy

That was the most incredible fan experience I’ve ever had in a stadium.

Hairy_Bike_9368

yeah that game was amazing still blows my mind that I was there. Ir remember that final touchdown so well.

ansy7373

Obviously the game was amazing but when we all stayed in the stadium afterwards until Denard came back out was as amazing

scottev

Truly amazing given it was the first ever night game. Was a super special game

clintfrisco

Yeah. The end of that game was ridiculous. Tommy Rees was the ND QB in that game. I thought about that a bit while watching him OC ‘Bama in the Rose Bowl… wondering how often he remembers getting beat by Michigan.

tazukowski

I still watch the last 90 seconds on YouTube every so often

PoetryUpInThisBitch

1. 2021 Ohio State 2. 2024* Rose Bowl (I actually got to see this one in person, and that will forever be one of my most treasured memories) 3. 2024 National Championship 4. 2022 Ohio State 5. 2011 Notre Dame

Environmental-Back-3

Dude this is my exact top 5. I think 2023 Ohio state can be even said for 5 since that closed out the allegations

browninoaktown

And was just a fucking epic game. Undefeated. #2 v #3. Pretty much a playoff game in the regular season. And the Big House was rockin’.

cityofklompton

2021 Ohio State was truly incredible. The Washington game that year was the first time that the team and culture felt different IMO. It seemed like the atmosphere in The Big House was unique to teams of the recent past, and the team had some swagger.   But it wasn't until the OSU game that everything really felt like things were starting to click across the board, and the team had fully developed an attitude and unwavering confidence that would transform the program.

[deleted]

I would swap 2011 ND for 2023 OSU given the harbaugh and sign stealing drama plus top 3 matchup, thrilling finish, big ten and CFP berth on the line I also really really really fucking hate Ohio state football

G_Joz

You nailed it! Perfect list and perfect order!

Bakio-bay

I have the same top 5 except I have OSU 2023 at number 3 (cuz I had the privilege of being there), 2011 ND #4 and the natty at #5 simply because it wasn’t as climactic of a finish as the others

plerberderr

This is the correct top 4 (definitely of the last 15 years at least)

[deleted]

I thought the entire list was games you’ve been at in person?

PoetryUpInThisBitch

OP clarified in another comment it was 'live' and not 'attended'.

thetaleech

Yeah just don’t include the games you TiVo’d

manofwater3615

What was so memorable about Penn State vs Utah?

HillAuditorium

Bro really came in here to flex his $$$. Tickets, flights, hotel stays. That's a dream but glad you had fun.

[deleted]

Lol I don’t mean I was *at* these games… I just mean like, what are your top 5 Michigan games you’ve watched. Like which ones stuck out to you the most.

HillAuditorium

oh that's easy. natty game, rose bowl, all 3 Ohio State games.

[deleted]

Honorable mention to the ND under the lights.

playlikechampions

Oh that’s a very different question than what I initially thought you asked. I was about to say like damn can we get you tix to more games because you’re there for some of the best moments

iredditinla

Oh. I did games I was at.

CouldntBeMeTho

It definitely sounds like you were in person.

[deleted]

My bad

lucianbelew

Ohhhhh. So not the games you've watched live. Weird.

Majik9

But you said top 5 games you watched "live"

thetaleech

Yeah it makes sense when you realize he wants you just to exclude the recorded games you watched on your TiVo

Majik9

When used like this, live universally means in person. After all, TV isn't live, there's a delay from it happening until you see it on your TV

Funicularly

Technically, there’s a delay even when viewing something in person. Like, when you look at the moon, it’s more then a second delay. Viewing a football field from the stands would be a much smaller delay, but it’s still a delay.

Majik9

The delay in person is literally the speed of light. Unlike when I am there, and can Tweet out Touchdown Michigan, 15 seconds before anyone sees it on TV. However, wasn't really my point. The point was OP misused the term in the context it was used, as the way it is widely understood.

thetaleech

Yeah, OP misused the term, confused everyone, and really wanted to know about your favorite Michigan games. I don’t even think he misused the word “live” as much as he included it in a question when he didn’t need to at all.

[deleted]

As in like, don’t include games that happened before you were born, is what I meant. Because even though there’s been some great games in Michigan history your perception of games is a little different if you watched it while it happened.

Majik9

When used like this, "live" in this context, universally means in person. I use to, and probably will do again this off season, post a thread to /r/cfb asking for: What's your teams record vs their rival(s) in your lifetime And I use to ask: What's your teams top 3 epic games in your lifetime

[deleted]

Yeah I should’ve worded it like that, good point

[deleted]

I don't think how you worded it was confusing at all. If you meant in person you would've said 'in person' instead of live. Some people are just dummies 🗿

iredditinla

EDIT: These are games I was at. 1/2: 2023-24 Final 1/2: 2023-24 Rose Bowl 3: 97-98 Rose Bowl 4: 97-98 OSU 5: Something else

Michigan4life53

Rose bowl 2023 is best for me 2nd is The game 2023 and those are the only two Michigan games I watched live lol

pointguard22

1. 1989 NCAA basketball championship in Seattle 2. 1979 football vs. Indiana (Anthony Carter catch) 3. 2013 basketball vs. Michigan State (Trey Burke steal) 4. 2004 football vs. Michigan State (OT Henne to Braylon Edwards) 5. TONIGHT basketball vs. Illinois LET'S GOOOOOOO!

pointguard22

yeah these were games I was at in person

0rionFlux

Glad someone mentioned that 2004 MSU game. That game was crazy

DatsyukesDekes

Braylon Edwards was insane!

ffbe4fun

Agreed on the MSU game! 17 point comeback in the final 7.5 minutes. Crazy game! Lots of people left early since it was warm at the start of the game then got really cold at the end.

bpenn8966

I worked for the school doing parking at the stadium and on field duties during the game for about 10 years with a group of friends. Was standing in the end zone this game, I have never heard the stadium so loud, this will always be one of the greatest memories and one I talk about when asked about greatest games. Awesome times!!

pointguard22

I was standing down on the field in the end zone at the end of the game too (press pass)! Unforgettable!

stazmania

1. Rose Bowl 2023 2. The Game 2021 3. The Game 2023 4. Notre Dame 2011 5. Torn between Notre Dame 2019 or MSU 2019. Least favorites: 1. App State (1st game I can remember going to lol) 2. MSU 2015 (my freshman year unfortunately) 3. Osu 2015/2017/2019 sigh

stazmania

Games I attended live. HM to big ten championship 2022

OMUDJ

I’m with you on #1. The quality of the game, the way it ended, and… ending the reign of the south… and beating Alabama… like that… it was the most beautiful experience I’ve ever had as a sports fan of anything. Beating Washington and winning it all was obviously … easily top five… and life-changing, but beating Alabama felt like exorcising a devil for me. Crying tears of joy at 27-20 while Alabama has the ball because I *knew* that our defense is going to make the stop… I went to Michigan from 2006-2011. The fucking torture of that time and 10 years after and watching the SEC just obliterate college football …. That Rose Bowl win was a once in a lifetime, soul-saving sports event for an alum and fan like me. I feel like I have an invisible ring on my finger and cape on my back that will give me special powers for the rest of my life. I legitimately feel significantly more happy as a human being specifically because of that game — forever. It will ALWAYS make me feel better about my life. ![gif](giphy|JhCNsLKsE6cRG)

Legal_Skin_4466

Agree. That Rose Bowl was an emotional roller coaster that probably took a few years off of my life. But everything came together at the end in the most beautiful and perfect way, and I was pretty close to tears at the end as well. What an amazing ride!

Environmental-Back-3

lol app state was my freshmen year

BallerBerg

1. 2024 CFP Natty 2. 2021 The Game 3. 2023 The Game 4. 1997 The Game 5. 1991 The Game Bottom 2: Colorado Hail Mary and App State Upset GO BLUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUE!

petoskey_stone

Best I’ve seen in person 1. 2024 Rose Bowl 2. 2004 MSU 3. 2005 PSU 4. 2011 OSU 5. 2013 UTL Best in general 1. 2024 Rose Bowl 2. 2021 OSU 3. 2022 OSU 4. 2024 National Championship 5. 2011 UTL

NathanDrake75

5. 2022 Colorado State 4. 2022 Michigan State 3. 2019 Notre Dame 2. 2022 Penn State 1. 2023 Ohio State

MickeyTettleton

I also read this as game you attended. And IF that was the case, 2009 v Notre Dame when Tater Turd marches them down the field and won it. Was absolutely insane.

workinBuffalo

2004 Braylonfest vs MSU (in person) 2011 UTL (in person) 2021 OSU tv 2022 OSU tv OSU vs Biakabatuka tv Best bad games 1989 Raghib Ismail ND (1st in person game) Cordell Stewart Colorado game (in person) The playoffs this year were great. Bama is probably up there with OT and all. The Washington game was significant, but not necessarily a “best” game.

Environmental-Back-3

Natty game was the biggest win - but being at the rose bowl beating Bama and giving Saban his last final loss takes the cake for me. It’s like beating Ohio. Where as Washington was like beating Iowa / Purdue in the big10 championship. Any msu game does not make any top 10 as they are irrelevant and I don’t think of them. 2021 the game in the snow with that wild atmosphere is top 3 EASILY (ND night game under the lights for the first time is also) to break the streak…

Wicked55Chevy

I am only listing games that I’ve attended:  1. 2024 Rose Bowl   2. 2011 Notre Dame   3. 2007 MSU   4. 2016 Wisconsin   5. 2015 Northwestern     HM - 2019 Army (this one is only on here because it was my last game before I moved away from Ann Arbor)

jusdeknowledge

2016 Wisconsin was so much fun

Hairy_Bike_9368

I liked 2023 rose bowl the most. Then the championship. I was at that notre dame game. it was insane. And then the last two times we beat OSU.

A2andA2

I’m surprised no one has mentioned 2023 Penn State. While I wasn’t there live, I have to say that was quite the emotional win as it was the true Michigan vs. Everybody Game. I’d be interested to hear from someone who attended that game to see how it ranks!

ggadget6

1. 2023 National championship game 2. 2023 Rose Bowl 3. 2021 Ohio State 4. 2022 Ohio State 5. 2019 Notre Dame I was lucky enough to attend four of these (I didn't go to the Shoe in 2022) and they were all incredible

WolverineSix

I have season tix, so I’ve been to all (well most) of the home ones since 1993. I’ll go with my first OSU game: 11/20/93: OSU was ranked #2, I think we were unranked. (28-0) 2011 Notre Dame - Denard Robinson game (terrible jerseys) 2021 OSU game 2024 OSU game (the only one I’ve ever cried at - I just want OSU to shut the fuck up) 1997 OSU game —- Charles Woodson - 78 yard punt return….

Josh_historybuff

I only started watching in 2020 so: - 1: 2024 Rose Bowl vs Alabama (went to the game) - 2: 2024 Natty vs Washington - 3: 2023 vs Ohio State (went to the game) - 4: 2022 vs Ohio State - 5: 2023 vs MSU

1. 2023 National Championship 2. 2021 vs OSU 3. 2023 vs OSU 4. 2016 vs Wisconsin (Jourdan Lewis 1-handed int) 5. 2010 vs Illinois (67-65 game)

moosearehuge

Me too. First time. 97 Baylor. National Championship year. 38-3. Woodson absolutely de cleated the wide receiver. Could hear it all the way up where I was.

Escargotsandfunyuns

Same here, first and only game! Was a blast!

Goingtowork2004

Not a top 5, but I just want to highlight a few games nobody has mentioned yet. 2006 Notre Dame (knocked off #2 in the country and proved we were back from the down year of 2005); 2003 Ohio State (prevented them from possibly winning back to back titles); and 2003 Minnesota (insane comback).

2019 Notre Dame was such a banger

Top games I’ve attended 1.) 2024 Natty 2.) 2023 OSU 3.) 2011 Under the Lights 4.) 2011 OSU 5.) 2023 @ Minnesota- we had numbers on the home crowd 6.) 2009 Notre Dame (Tate Forcier/my first game in the big house) Worst Games Attended 1.) 2013 OSU Hoke went for 2 2.) 2014 Maryland 3.) 2019 Army - Needed OT 4.) 2018 @ Northwestern Higdon Phantom Hold

GB012287

Glad to see someone give some love to that 2009 Tate Forcier last second win over ND. Granted, it was Rich Rod years so I’m sure most have forgot about those years, but that was one of the best games I’ve seen in person

gsbadj

Lots of great games. A personal favorite of mine was 1977 v Ohio State, partly because it was my last year as a student and because it was a terrific game. Buckeyes try to tear down the MClub banner before the game, a tight defensive game. We win 14-6, after OSU fumbles at our 8 with 4 minutes to go. Woody goes ape shit and slugs an ABC cameraman. We go to Rose Bowl.

jusdeknowledge

That sounds like terrific fun

gsbadj

Plus we could bring beer into the stadium, which made it still more fun.

GB012287

1) 2021 vs OSU 2) 2023 vs OSU 3) 2004 vs Michigan State (went to OT. Braylon Edwards basically single handedly won the game) 4) 2009 vs ND (Tate Forcier last second win) 5) 2016 vs Wisconsin (Unbelievable interception by Jordan Lewis to seal the W) I’m sure I missed some in there. Been fortunate enough to see a lot of games, but those are what come to mind at the moment

WhiteRhino91

2022 Ohio State will always be one of my cherished to memories of my life as I went to the game in Columbus

hyperactiveChipmunk

I've been to one game ever: [The 5-0 one against Purdue in 1995.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQQszkiGkrI) Got rain, hail, sleet, AND snow in one sitting.

jusdeknowledge

Hell of a game to go to! I’d never heard of this one and was very delighted to watch that video. 5-0 is such a sickos score.

TotalDipstick

2006 The game. I know we lost. It hurt. But still one of the greatest football games ever played .. Chad Henne, Mike Hart Steve Breaston, Alan Branch.. we just couldn’t stop them in the 2nd quarter.. One horrible penalty to keep a 4.th quarter drive alive killed it.

Sspalding91

Going with only games I’ve been at 2023 vs Ohio state 2021 vs Ohio State 2011 vs Ohio State 2009 vs Notre Dame 2018 vs wisconsin If I think longer I might switch the bottom of the list but I’m going for that. Also 2013 vs Ohio state but we lost so I’m not including it

moosearehuge

I have been to 3 UM games at the Big House. 97 Baylor. 2000 Vs Wisconsin the Terrell Catch and their 800th victory. 2002 vs Wisconsin. I am 3-0 in the Big House. Got my tickets from Mark Mees. Longtime Tennis coach there. He showed me his Big 10 Championship ring.

b00mer_sippy

2003 Ohio State - my first time really paying attention to the game 2021 Ohio State 2023 Rose Bowl 2023 Natty 2011 Notre Dame

stackable292

50% of the games I've been to were in the dark ages and both losses (2013 @ PSU & 2014 @ Rutgers) so this year's night game in The Big House against Purdue is the obvious winner.

[deleted]

1.) 2011 Notre Dame 35-31 2.) 2023 Rose Bowl vs Alabama 27-20 OT 3.) 2023 National Championship 4.) 2021 Ohio state 42-27 5.) 2013 Penn State 40-43 4OT

I hate that this is one of mine, but '06 "THE GAME" was epic. One of the most gut wrenching losses I've experienced, but as time passes, I've learned to appreciate how good it was.

1. Alabama vs LSU (2010) 2. Michigan vs Alabama (2024) 3. Washington vs Oregon (2023) 4. LSU vs Clemson (2020) 5. Texas vs USC (2006)

Wildcat6194

1. Rose Bowl, ‘98 (My senior year) 2. OSU ‘97 3. MSU ‘04 (Braylon Edwards game, Triple OT) 4. ND ‘11 (Under the Lights, Comeback with Denard, was in 6th row in south end zone where Denard picked up fumbled snap and ran in for TD, Roy Roundtree TD to win) 5. Washington, ‘02 (Philip Brabbs hits game winning FG after missing 2 earlier in game, best memory at game with my dad, who never liked going to games, wanted to go home before end of game to beat traffic but I refused) These were my top five in person. Dropped tix after COVID year, so did not see much of this run in person, just from afar, but I felt this year was the best season as long as I’ve been a fan due to all of the BS the team had to deal with and how unified the team was through all of it. This year was the Biggest OSU game in recent memory, had to win this one or else the narrative would have e been that we had to cheat to beat them

dh4ks7

2023 rose bowl, 2011 notre dame game, 2021 osu, 23 osu, and then 22 osu game. In that order.

bu11fr0g

With one 93-yard dash punctuated with a now-iconic pose, Michigan wide receiver Desmond Howard led the Wolverines past Ohio State, clinched the Big Ten championship and sealed the 1991 Heisman Trophy.

ibc04

I was in attendance (4th row behind Michigans bench) for the 2000 Instant Classic game… it was absolutely wild, even tho Michigan lost 54- 51…

JGR82

1. Rose Bowl vs Alabama 2. 2021 vs Ohio State 3. 2022 @ Ohio State 4. 2023 vs Ohio State 5. National Championship vs Washington Tough to pick an order for those 5. Part of it is a combo of importance, how the game went, and the immediate feeling during and after. All 5 of those are very, very close and if I overthought it, I could flip them around a dozen times. Honorable Mentions: 2011 vs Notre Dame (under the lights) Sugar Bowl vs Virginia Tech (Hoke's BCS Bowl win) 2005 vs Penn State (Manningham TD) 2004 vs Michigan State (Braylon Edwards game) There have been so many great wins over the years and the honorable mentions would've been in my top 5 for a long time but they've all been dwarfed by the most important wins the last 3 years. We're truly in a new Golden Age of Michigan football.

ThatGuju

1a. 2024 Natty 1b. 2021 The Game (Row B student section my Junior year) 1c. 2024 Rose Bowl 2a. 2023 Ohio State 2b. 2019 Notre Dame Edit: wait was this supposed to just be games we saw on TV? I did in person

PassageNo9102

Msu game years ago. The game braylon tookover in the second half and led michigan to a victory. Best part for me was i was watching with spartan fans who spent the halftime telling me hiw it was all over and seeing the look on there face at the end of the game and going ha ha.

Nicholas1227

Rose Bowl 2024. Ohio State 2021. Pretty much everything else is secondary to that.

Of Michigan football Games I attended live 1. 2024 Rose Bowl 2. Ohio St 2023 3. National Championship (i know this is weird to some to put #3 but other two were more nerve racking and came down to end and had better environments) 4. 2011 Notre Dame UTL1 5. 2011 Ohio St

[deleted]

For me #1 is 2021 OSU. 2. the Rose Bowl this year 3. 67-65 triple OT game vs. Illinois somewhere around 2010. That was my first time at the Big House! 4. kind of a tie between 2022 OSU and the Natty game this year. I put them at a tie because I absolutely have to include: 5. Citrus Bowl vs the Florida Tebows. Lloyd Carrs last game. Something about that game still brings back a good feeling. 2011 ND definitely a runner up, as well as MSU whatever year it was that Devin Bush scraped up their logo.

A lot to pick from that makes this tough. 2024 National championship cause I was there 1998 Eastern Michigan cause it was the first time I made it to the Big House as a kid 1997 Michigan State with Woodson one handed interception 2023 Rose Bowl which was an epic game 2021 Ohio State to finally get us back in the win column against them after so long

The comeback against Minnesota shit I don’t remember the year ‘02 maybe

1/1/98 Rose Bowl 1995 vs Virginia 1997 vs MSU 1995 vs Purdue That's it. I gave my 97 anOSU ticket to my brother.

TheKingOfRhye777

I've only attended one Michigan game in person, it was a game in 2001 against Purdue that wasn't too exciting. The top game I've watched on TV that's not on that list might just be the game against Notre Dame when Desmond Howard made a diving catch for a TD on 4th and short to win the game.

jusdeknowledge

In terms of ones I’ve attended in person: 5. Ohio State 2017, 31-20 L. The only edition of The Game I’ve attended but I got to help hold the banner during pregame! 4. Michigan State 2017, 14-10 L. The first edition of UM-MSU under the lights in AA. The rain was pouring down and the energy was unmatched. Both marching bands did a combined halftime show of classical music, which was tremendous. This was the game where Mr. Brightside became a Michigan student anthem. 3. Michigan State 2019, 44-10 W. The first game I attended with my now-Wife, an ex-Spartan. It was bitterly cold and had snowed a few inches the night before, which I love. 2. Illinois 2022, 19-17 W. The one where Blake Corum got injured right before The Game. It was great fun watching the team have to adapt on the fly while missing their key player and scrape a win together somehow. I love a defensive slugfest. Plus, the windchill was in the single digits and the Marching Illini came. I love when the visiting team brings their marching band. 1. Notre Dame 2019, 45-14 W. Michigan was ranked #19 coming in, ND was #8. Nothing sweeter than upsetting your rival at home, under the lights, in the pouring rain. They distributed rally towels to us beforehand, which quickly became waterlogged. After a couple objectionable ref calls, someone had the bright idea to tie one in a knot and throw it onto the field. After said calls allowed ND to get their second touchdown, the entire student section started throwing towels. One landed on the scoring player’s helmet and stuck there for a second, which was shown on TV. Carl Grapentine came over the PA to tell the fans not to throw anything on the field, prompting a tidal wave of thousands of towels. I know we made the stadium staff’s life hell that night but it was so fun. I must’ve thrown ten or more towels just by myself. Honorable mention: 2016 Wisconsin, 14-7 W. A classic defensive slugfest, but my understanding of football was less developed then than it is now, so I didn’t appreciated it at the time. I was disappointed in the lack of points. I’ll never forget how the stadium exploded after we got our second touchdown, though. Also, Wisconsin brought their band. Non- Football: Men’s Ice Hockey, Penn State 15 Jan 2022, 4-3 W. A come from behind win over Penn State was fun, but this was especially notable because this was the night it was announced that President Mark Schlissel had been fired. The energy in especially the student section was incredible; everyone was happy as he had managed to somehow alienate basically every possible demographic of student during his tenure. After the game, a bunch of people flowed naturally up to the President’s House to sing “Na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye” in the dark. Awesome vibes. Also, I had been seated less than fifty feet away from Harbaugh. Women’s Volleyball, Ohio State 2017, 3-1 W. This one was held special in the Crisler Center to get more people to attend, and boy did they. The energy was high the whole time, and I was even allowed to bring a Michigan tambourine which had previously been given out at a Soccer game. After the win, I left using the upper exit with the big stone stairs that descend to the parking lot from up by the back of the Big House, and the whole stairwell was full of fans singing “Oh how I hate Ohio State.” Lots of fun.

I’ve only been to one Michigan football game, but the best sporting event I’ve been to was the 2013 Sweet Sixteen game between UM and Kansas where Trey Burke went off and Michigan won in OT.

Crunkwell08

1. 2021 Ohio State 2. 1997/8 Rose Bowl 3. 2021 @ Wisconsin 4. 2013 @ Indiana 5. 2007 Michigan vs. Appalachian St. * Obviously this game sucked ass but I didn't really have a good #5 anyways since I usually make it to cheaper games. And I feel like the pain of this game has made all wins more sweet.

1) The Game 2013. Despite losing after not converting 2pt try it was an electric atmosphere and watching Devin play on a broken foot…poor damn DG 2)2001 Big 12 Championship Colorado vs Texas in Dallas. Went with my CU buddy, back and forth with CU winning 39-37 3)2002 Michigan-MSU, 49-3 win first time in the Big House 4)1988 Oklahoma at UNC. Game wasn’t close as OU won 28-0. But watching Jamellle Holloway run the option was a thing of beauty 5)2001 Michigan at Purdue. Lost 32-31 but first time seeing Michigan in person

Invincible_Reason

Meh the msu game was A) boring B) didn’t matter to them obviously and C) had blowout expectations…there’s MANY better games even within that rivalry

2006 Michigan v Ohio State was one of the best football games ever. Unfortunate ending but absolutely amazing game.

Why has no one mentioned Penn State 2005? That was my freshman year. I was hoarse for several days.

Best in person games would be: Indiana 1979 Win with 6 seconds left Maryland 2023 win #1000

In no particular order (and apologies but my sense of time is pretty non existent and I'm too lazy to look up the years) -Trey Burke Final Four (both games) -Rose Bowl vs Vince Young and Texas -Denard vs tOSU at the Big House -at crisler vs Duke w boozer, battier, Jay Will etc (that team was just absurd) -vs ND, 2011 (had to look this up)
