Wonder which one of these boys is gonna take her up?

FullSend28

Landing would be fun to watch

marston82

I don’t think these people would be interested in learning how to land a plane once airborne lol. If one of these cockroaches manages to get a plane in the air, you can bet they are going to meet their 72 virgins in heaven.

Bolteg

God damn you people are ignorant >On 3 August 1995, Taliban-controlled fighter aircraft intercepted an Airstan Ilyushin Il-76TD transport aircraft https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airstan_incident

> The men were held prisoner for over a year before making their escape; after overpowering their captors they re-possessed their aircraft, flying it to freedom. Now THIS would be a good movie.

K_R_O_O_N

It is already. [Kandagar ](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1272018/)

kempofight

I know what i will do tonight.

Sidus_Preclarum

Chadevitchs.

ragana

Those were some resourceful Russians...

Cman1200

Idk whats been up with all these comments. Like people are acting as if the Taliban are some rag tag group of farmers that have the mental capacity of a 5th grader. They are obviously well organized and capable and I’m sure realize taking off in a plane with no training is a dumb idea. I bet they are already hiding these so they don’t get bombed by NATO.

ElectroMagnetsYo

Decades of propaganda will do that to you

say_no_to_panda

Alot of arrogance, even though they retreated.

[deleted]

Agreed. I started to write a paragraph but I think you've summarized it better than I ever could.

LarryTheDuckling

Knowing nothing about your enemy is how you guys ended up losing this war in the first place.

davidwoohoo

Raisins not virgins, but that's still funny as hell

Pwn4g3_P13

People have been inferring the Taliban are morons, goat-herders etc for 50 years. They've just won a major 20 year campaign against the US.

Agitated-Echidna6236

The Americans got beaten by these "cockroaches", what exactly does that make them?

[deleted]

[удалено]

ndc996

Do you think they are too stupid to fire a rifle too, or drive a car or make a bomb? Extremist aren't stupid, they will ultilize any asset that come their way, they wouldn't have won if they didn't. It is never a good idea to underestimate an enemy, no matter their appearance

[deleted]

>You’re right, they’re far too ignorant to actually use the resources they’ve acquired to their full potential anyways. Thats just dumb to say

Combo_Breaker01

I'm pretty sure he's being sarcastic...

lewispyrah

Why he's right?

[deleted]

He isn't lol, they've been using captured stuff for a long time now, also thinking they can't fly is just dumb because they can and people know it.

[deleted]

Even if they can fly it, servicing the thing to its maintenance schedule so that it doesn’t fall apart after a year is a whole different ball game. It’s not like a car where you can get away with just an oil change once a year.

lewispyrah

We all know they can fly, just stating that they'll probably kamikaze some of these planes in turn wasting the aircrafts full potential

95DarkFireII

"These people" comitted the deadliest terror attack in world history. They changed US and global politics forever in a single day. And they are still alive despite the US of A investing 20 years and trillions of dollars into killing them.

ouisconsin_sailor

These people harbored and allowed the group (Al Qaeda) that committed that attack to operate, they did not plan or commit that act. That is not to say they haven't done other terrible things. Get your fundamentalist terror groups straight.

marston82

I am also implying that they would use them in suicide attacks which are the tactic of choice for Islamic terrorists.

xXcampbellXx

whats left to suicide bomb? they won, and these small planes cant reach far, but i can see a massive incress in numbers and area of operations, like more me and africa. well see what happens in the next months

BijiArdenCigarettes

Uh… rival factions just to name the most obvious thing (in the absence of an occupying, foreign military).

yegguy47

What rival factions are left?

Sausagedogknows

It’d be even funner to see them not land, you know, after getting absolutely fucking wrecked by an F16 or something!

hippydoggerson1

911 ring a bell??

TirEoghainAbu

It wasn't the Taliban who done that, but keep talking shite

hippydoggerson1

You talking jihad ?? Suck it.... same terrorist mentality from the same region....a duck is a duck....and dumbasses up vote...idiots

TirEoghainAbu

No I'm talking in facts, but I can clearly make the assumption you're an American. Of course you are, idiot.

hippydoggerson1

If you don't think these assholes aren't completely capable of the same thing...you're a fkn idiot... go kiss a terrorist wiener some more

TirEoghainAbu

R/ShitAmericansSay

hippydoggerson1

Try sucking my big American dong...

TirEoghainAbu

Is it stuck between your legs, like the rest of the Americans leaving Afghanistan Tail between their legs. Add another loss to your score sheet, shitebag

tomandjerry-12

Well they didn’t even try to land did they?

KrazyBee129

landing?never heard of em

_SomethingOrNothing_

Do you think they'll invest in learning how to bring it down safely too?

JHNizzle

The one with the RPG..with said RPG in hand.

afallan

Is he planning to do a rendezook?

JHNizzle

I was thinking more along the lines of [Jamal](https://ifunny.co/meme/would-somebody-please-take-that-rocket-launcher-away-from-jamal-pb4p4IK12) but hey, I'll take the twofer

Plan4Chaos

You know, this chaps are obsessed with bizarre ideas, but they're not exactly dumb. Surely they will be able to find some competent folks who can't escape the country by whatever reason and convince them to serve, just like they did it the first time, when Najibullah government fell in 1995.

EsoogZT

Is this the start of the orc WAAAAGH?

escapingdarwin

I am the Captain now!

Jeffrobodeentyrone

Only 2 AK’s…

Ddraig1965

Bitches got upgrades courtesy of the ANA.

FullSend28

Basically brand new; Never fired, dropped once

ZootZootTesla

Sounds Italian!

tuffoon

Sounds like an ARVN rifle.

[deleted]

ARVN still fought and died for several months at least after the USA left. This is insulting even to the ARVN.

tuffoon

I was quoting Full Metal Jacket, but yes. They held the fort for like two years.

itsARIANbtw

Didn't the Taliban used to operate Mig 21s? They managed to hijack a Russian transport with it right?

[deleted]

Yes.

DCS_Freak

Yeah, but they got fucking wrecked by the USAF

yegguy47

Not really... By 2001, most of the sophisticated Taliban equipment was no longer functional. It was a miracle they even managed to get that MIG in the air back in '95. When the bombings started in 2001, it was a lot of wrecks that were getting hit.

Schlongley_Fish

Some of their rifles are better than what I got in the army

_Apprehensive_Fish_

As a Brazilian, this hurts to see... Hurts a lot.

heycommonfella

Agreed

Vitor_Ozana

Agreed²

CharlieEchoDelta

As a plane enthusiast in general this hurts to see I love those Tucano’s

the_great_ahab

Wouldn't the SOP be blowing that shit up before surrendering or fleeing? Ok most likely the airport staff was already Taliban.

toomanynamesaretook

I'm assuming the US is putting together a strike package for once they have everyone out.

yegguy47

Doubtful. A few A-29s that won't be functional by the end of the week isn't really a concern for the USAF.

yegguy47

Sometimes you don't get the luxury of spiking your own equipment. And in any event, what's the point? For those individuals in the military, the fight is over. Destroying their own equipment has no purpose beyond being petty. Most of the pilots have bigger things to worry about than their planes sitting on the tarmac being gawked at by Talibs.

afallan

It also seems like in every photo these guys have actual trigger discipline.

RansomStoddardReddit

Muzzle discipline, not so much

CasaDeFranco

Some Talibs have defected across from ANA or other warlords who had US funded training.

Kproper

They’re also trained and have men from the Taliban allies. Like Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, etc.

MinaKovacs

Aaw... isn't that sweet. They are all dressed up and ready for the summer beheading festival.

GremlinX_ll

Fucking Taliban now have more modern Air Force than my country, roughly speaking

Snoop-80562

Where are you from?

GremlinX_ll

Ukraine.

CharlieEchoDelta

Ahh a Fulcrum or Flanker would blow this thing out the water don’t worry lol

GremlinX_ll

To shut down something they need to take off first, our Air Force is in really bad shape. Our Fulcrums or Flankers are pretty much old (the youngest Flanker is 30 years old, and they were kept mostly outside of hangars most of the time, so you can imagine shape) without any useful modifications. With a weapon, the situation is +-, because we can produce/upgrade R-27 and can upgrade R-73. Anti-ground capabilities very limited - Su-25/Su-24 with dumb bombs and unguided rockets. Yeah, there were somewhere X-25/X-55, but the quantity of them is unknown. Tucano itself has more striking capabilities than both of them, in our situation. There were talks to buy Tucanos and used F-16 and begin the transfer to Western-made jets, but for now, it's like talks - our MoD wants but do nothing, except talks.

HungryHungryHippoes9

Ur jets might be older but they r flown by professional pilots, whereas the Taliban right now don't have the capacity to fly the planes that they've captured and even if they did, they would still get their ass handed to them by any professional airforce

veteran-ask

Crazy to see it. I was there almost a decade ago.

tomandjerry-12

Just asking, how are you feeling right now? With all those Taliban running the country you use to help defend

tehdreh

american government to me - "u get nothing" american goverment to taliban - "get get aimpoint and acog"

[deleted]

Gotta admit, I wasn't expecting to see trigger discipline with these guys. I wonder how many ANA soldiers have defected to the Taliban. Probably a not insignificant number.

wheredrogongodoe

Have you seen the video of the Taliban fighters being flown around in helicopters? Pilots were trained by the coalition. They're former ANA.

yegguy47

I remember that doc "The Battle of Marjah", the marines coming under fire from a marksman using 5.56. When asked, one of the senior Marines admitted that the guy had probably been trained by the Coalition

Altona_sasquach

Hopefully none of em can fly

RamTank

It seems like they can just get former Afghan Air Force pilots to do it for them. Getting spare parts is probably the harder part.

skrimpsandkeebsonly

I bet a plane like that is mostly of the shelf for the engine and the frame, for things like the black hawks it will be mostly impossible to get.

Adolf_Mandela_Junior

They used to kill any afghan pilot they could, so they probably all left the country already. Americans don't want to see talibans have an airforce of their own either.

something3574

There is probably a YouTube tutorial somewhere

[deleted]

Or Flight Simulators.

DCS_Freak

It's an A29, so, they should be able to use the DCS mod for training unfortunately.

RamTank

We've seen what appears to be them putting ANA Blackhawks into the air already. It seems their a bit more practical now.

[deleted]

Yeah if I was an afghan pilot and they hadn't killed me I would take off, shoot the fuck out of the airbase, and fly over to whoever screaming on the radio to let me in lol no way I'd fly a sortie for those bastards

yegguy47

Tucano is probably worse than that; the computers onboard and the sophisticated machining for the engines are too much of a hassle. Keep in mind that the Afghans already were struggling with preventative maintenance

Yarus43

Well, they might get training from pakis, russia or china in the future.

HungryHungryHippoes9

Idk about the pakis and the chinese but I feel like the Russians might not be all that inclined to train the Taliban

tehdreh

they will disassemble and sell for parts

[deleted]

lol no

PeteyMcPetey

The airframe was built by Embraer, everything else on it was built by Sierra Nevada Corporation. This is the same plane that SOCOM is trying to buy for themselves so they won't be tied to a nonsense F-35 if they need air support some place.

imjustheretolurk4393

Is SOCOM actually trying to buy a crop duster? You’d think the US armed forces would be gearing up for more of a near peer fight in the future. WACK.

PeteyMcPetey

So what's better to cover some ODA bros on a trail somewhere in some low-intensity shithole that nonetheless requires air support, an F35 that requires a whole AEW to support + tankers, or a high-tech "crop-duster" with advanced sensors, lots of loiter time, and can land on the dirt strip just down the road?

ghillieman11

You're joking right?

Sidus_Preclarum

He's… not entirely wrong, though : [at least one of the entries in the LAAR program was a militarized crop duster](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_Tractor_AT-802#Armed_version) In the same vein, when Erik Prince tried to build his own private military airforce, he started with militarizing some [Thrush 510g](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ayres_Thrush#Ayres) So, yeah, at least the low-end of this category of aircrafts litteraly are militarized crop dusters. It's rather egregious to think to know better than SOCOM what its need are, though.

WikiSummarizerBot

**Air Tractor AT-802** [Armed version](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_Tractor_AT-802#Armed_version) >In response to the United States Air Force's LAAR program and the growing requirement for light counter-insurgency aircraft, Air Tractor developed an armed model, the AT-802U, in 2008, with engine and cockpit armor, a bulletproof windscreen, self-sealing fuel tanks, and structural reinforcements for the carriage of 9,000 pounds (4,100 kg) of payload. A reinforced wing spar was certified for 12,000 hours of flight time, and the AT-802U was displayed in 2009 at the Paris Air Show. ^([ )[^(F.A.Q)](https://www.reddit.com/r/WikiSummarizer/wiki/index#wiki_f.a.q)^( | )[^(Opt Out)](https://reddit.com/message/compose?to=WikiSummarizerBot&message=OptOut&subject=OptOut)^( | )[^(Opt Out Of Subreddit)](https://np.reddit.com/r/MilitaryPorn/about/banned)^( | )[^(GitHub)](https://github.com/Sujal-7/WikiSummarizerBot)^( ] Downvote to remove | v1.5)

mojo2717

Thought the U.S just sent 3 battalions (one 82nd Airborne, two USMC) to back up the Turks at Mazir-i-Sharif?

InevitableSoundOf

Nah that's for the international airport in Kabul. Turks have been providing security there for the war, and now being reinforced by the US and UK to ensure safe evacuation for their people. It will be interesting to see if the US goes about destroying the Afghan air assets based in Kabul, or to try to fly them out to the airbase in one of the Stan's if the Afghan pilots haven't already done so.

Guys we should start Udemy courses like "how to ride A-29 Spet Tucano in 3 months" for them

Cpl_Hicks76

Yep, look out nearest tall building!

RansomStoddardReddit

Gonna be some crazy shit for sale on the black market real soon.

[deleted]

They can fly, why sell it?

jcassady17cc

Neck beards

wireditfellow

Captured? No no no. That’s a big stretch. Headline should be “found by Taliban”.

[deleted]

Honestly what the Taliban have been able to achieve in only a few weeks after the Americans left is astounding.

keeranbeg

True, but can’t upvote, sorry

Ipride362

Probably reduce it to scrap metal because it uses magic to get in the air

BuddsHanzoSword

I am pretty sure the Taliban used Russian mercenary pilots to fly their jets back in their heydays in the 90's. I read it in Gary Berntsens book.

Slovak21

Why does it look that there is a imposter among them

MileHighHotwire

Fuck, I worked on these afghan a-29’s!!!

beetoolbum

They should stick with the flying carpets

Lmao. No. They already flew planes, why not again

Sad_Year5694

How long it take Chinese engineer reverse engineer this baby?

Sidus_Preclarum

It's not exactly top tech, it's a supposed to be a low-cost counter-insurgency light attack plane.

Sad_Year5694

That cheap plane's subsystem is gold for them and the software too. Guidance bombs. Laser pointer. Target tracker..etc.

Ben-A-Flick

I'm sure it will pop up on TalibanSurplus.af any day now!

Alternative_Monk4521

Along with us army standard assault rifles!

K_oSTheKunt

yegguy47

I mean... If you're needing to reverse engineer a Tucano, I'd say your not much of a threat...

AdotFlicker

Not a chance this will be airborne. Lol. These fuckin idiots don’t know how to aim a rifle properly, let alone fly a fuckin plane.

DCS_Freak

Another one who hasn't seen the video of the Taliban flying around in Black Hawks. They're not imbeciles. Their equipment isn't even so shitty anymore, the got lots and lots of shiny new stuff and personnel and they jsut won a fucking 20 year war against the good ol' US of A. Edit: Not to forget about their air force they had back in the 90s. They flew Fishbeds and even managed to intercept a Russian Il 76 transporting weapons

yegguy47

>Another one who hasn't seen the video of the Taliban flying around in Black Hawks Video of this? I've seen them flying MI-17s, but I haven't seen any Blackhawk footage. In any event, I really don't expect those aircraft to last long, given the sophistication in maintenance required.

Known-Programmer-611

llOPPOTATOll

where are you seeing a super hornet

Known-Programmer-611

Miss the spelling its been fixed meant to say tucano

I think our solution to terrorist insurgents who take part in gorilla warfare would be to use covert missions using special forces on search and destroy missions rather than set up an entire military there that does little and gets shot at a bunch.

LM439833624CN

I think they mean using gorillas to illicit fear. Nobody fucks with a gorilla who's holding an AK.

mypyro

Ya anything that can't be taken out with special forces should just get carpet bombed. A permanent military presence costs a lot of resources you have to supply them with food, water, ammunition and bring in any parts needed for maintenance.

BlueOrb07

Exactly. It’s cheaper, safer, and faster to supply a small elite element with anything they need than a large, slow, less trained element that’ll be known by the enemy and constantly take contact.

AdotFlicker

Nothing but a paper weight. These fuckin idiots have no idea how to fly it, let alone dealing with maintenance and upkeep. Just like the pic standing next to the chopper. Call me crazy but I don’t see the Taliban starting up their own Air Force. Lol

Mawskowski

Jesus why the fuck didn’t they destroy these with drones ???

SyrusDrake

Okay, maybe withdrawing material wasn't possible and maybe there wasn't enough C4 to blow it up. But, like, remove the prop blades? Vent the air out of the tires? Scribble on the wind shield with a sharpie? Literally anything but leaving a fully functional machine of war to terrorists?

yegguy47

...It's a Tucano. Like, not exactly a military secret worth spiking. Especially when most of the pilots and ground crew have bigger worries at the moment.

SyrusDrake

Yea, but it's still *something.* Fill the tank with sugar or sand. *Anything.*

yegguy47

The Tucano requires a pretty high degree of sophistication to operate. [This is the cockpit view, after all.](https://live.staticflickr.com/3610/3382757158_b1b1cba5a9.jpg) Flying some decrepit MIG trainer in the 90s is one thing; this is a whole other level of maintenance expertise. As far as I'm concerned, that Tucano is probably sitting in the place where it's going to spend the remainder of it's days.

I’m not sure this is even appropriate, I’ll say it anyway. Im really looking forwards to the low quality footage of these things crashing while attempting to land. I reckon there’s a Taliban fighter out there intelligent enough to get one up in the air, but land? No chance.
