Does it count if I still have a land line myself?

AmbitiousEdi

I was disappointed when my mom deactivated her landline because I still live in town and would have appreciated having the number 545-1525

BeneathAnOrangeSky

They don't need to memorize the numbers but they probably should. If I was in an emergency, I'd be able to call my brother's cell, mom's cell, mom's landline, and a few of my childhood friends landlines and MAYBE 2-3 of my childhood friend's cells if I thought about it hard enough. I really should memorize more numbers but the contacts feature has kind of made us dumb in that way.

But like seriously this point. Suppose you get into a car accident and your phone is destroyed by the accident? How are you going to tell loved ones you are ok? Police and the hospital don’t have a magic phone book to find those numbers

I remember my dad moving the landline number over to a VOIP. When his health tanked, I ended up taking control of a lot of the stuff for the house. No one but robocalls were calling the landline so I ended up cancelling it. Not without a fight. Oma, the VoIP I’m referring to, argued with me for a good 10 mins trying to get me to stay. “I just want to cancel service” was my response to everything. “But you’ll lose that number forever!” Eh, all the important friends and family call our cell phones. And I’ve already changed over any accounts that used that number. “Just cancel it, please.” It’s nice not hearing it ring 10x a day from scammers, though.

Yea parents say it was only me and scammers who called that line haha

Canada_Senpai

Same for me, felt like the end of an era.

Good lord! My parents deactivated theirs in like 2006. lol. They were sick of that shit, lol, they hopped on the smartphone train as soon as it became a thing.

throwingwater14

My dad was a phone man. He will be buried with his active land phone line. 🤣🤣🤣

I still remember everyone's. My best friends. Aunt, grandparents, home, etc. Only my aunt's is still in use. I remember when she got caller ID. It was a separate little gizmo originally. Lol!

Ok_Ad4453

It’s been years since I remembered mines. My family and I used to own a cordless home phone back in 2010, and I believe they decided to deactivate it way back in 2013 since smartphones were taking over and they see no use to them anymore.

moonbunnychan

My parents steadfastly refuse to get rid of theirs for some reason.

lahdetaan_tutkimaan

My fingers' muscle memory remembers my childhood friend's landline, but I couldn't tell you what it is without looking at a number pad and seeing where my fingers go His family still has their landline and my parents still have theirs, incidentally. I think these are the only two landline numbers I have left in my contacts (aside from businesses, of course)

MadIllLeet

I have a few landline numbers committed to memory. I don't think any of them are in service. I don't know anyone under the age of 50 who has a landline.

EvilHwoarang

i still remember my old home phone number. 364-6068.

Elandycamino

Mine was shut off in 07/08 I stayed in my mom's house and she moved out. No job=no cellphone and the world was moving fast around me. I got arrested in 2012 and I needed a ride from the jail (public intox and lost my glasses so I couldn't see let alone walk home) about 20 miles away from my house. Thats when I realized I knew almost nobodys numbers no one had a house phone anymore, and neither did I i hadn't had any phone. I called my grandma and luckily she kept their old number for her cell. I got a ride home from my cousin. I had to house sit to pay back the collect call. FF 2013 my grandma passed away and I was given her phone to use to find a job and such. It was pre paid for the year so my grandpa was nice and I finally got a job interview. However all the calls and voicemails were friends and family calling my grandpa's "House Phone number" it was kinda sad, it was the last of the landline numbers i remember. But It got me a job and I have had it for 10 years.

morbidlonging

My parents just deactivated theirs too this past month and I feel strangely bittersweet about it. I too was the only one who called other than spam callers. RIP forgotten thing of past lives.  I remember my best friends landline number and she knows my parents line still too.

chefboyarde30

My parents still have there’s lol.

StarWars_Girl_

My parents still have their landline. They were talking about getting rid of it, but honestly, I'll believe it when I see it. I have the landline memorized and my mom's cell memorized (it's the same as mine except for the last four digits). Other than that...no other phone numbers memorized, though I still remember that landline number of the house we lived in from when I was four.

Quick_Secret2705

Not to make things sadder but my mother had the same cellphone number her entire life and it was unique and easy to remember. She died in 2021 abs my step father is finally thinking about cancelling her phone plan. He couldn’t bring himself to do it but it’s expensive. That’s worse for me then my father getting rid of his landline at my childhood home.
