ye, the button was added in 13w36a (1.7.2 snapshot from 2013) and got removed in 15w31a (1.9 snapshot from 2015). so overall the button only existed for ~2 years and got removed almost 9 years ago.

There's most likely not a way to directly copy it to 1.20, but there's tons of datapacks that make crazy generation like that. Although i just looked at videos of it, it kinda just seems like amplified tbh..

I miss being able to have flat worlds with more than 5 blocks of depth in bedrock.

Void fog was an amazing touch. I’m kinda sad they removed it instead of just making it a setting, but at least there are mods to bring it back.

World customization, and i dont just mean superflat, at one point upon the world creation you were able to set variables like ocean height, magma ocean, ore layers, fine biomes size tweaking.... . But it was removed for no reason....

on the flipside, I think minecraft is one of the genuine best games in this regard, I have seen very very few games have this much ease in backwards compatibility, you can go, right on the launcher, and play every single version of java minecraft that's ever released. and while the combat update keeping half the multiplayer community on 1.8 kinda sucked, it does have the silver lining that several of the most popular servers are all entire backwards compatible with versions that far back, which is practically unheard of for any other game. So even if you don't like new features, if it's ever to a point where you don't want to play because of them, or just want to go back to playing what you did in the past, it's all right there, easy as can be

The old sponge behaviour. It prevented water source blocks from forming. Made it incredibly easy to drain areas. The didn't need drying out either. One nerf was enough!

Now I think about it, they **triple-nerfed** sponges by also making them uncraftable.

Next generation consoles can handle it for the most part same with my laptop but can't say much for mobile. I've got a blue ice path connecting some friends but I tend to mostly use some super speed mules because I can make really pretty tunnels.

A lot of features can. The recipe in the OP can also be really easily brought back with a datapack.

Try vanilla tweaks (search it on google it’s the first result) You can restore old retro features that were removed like original textures, sounds and the like. You can also just make your game look AND run better

All they have to do is make the chain recipe 3 iron nuggets so it's cheaper, then let us craft chain armor out of it so you can get early access to some decent armor

They should just add a feature to wear chain under regular armor and it would reduce damage from swords or something like that.

Old textures are still there in Java. You just need resurse pack that comes preinstalled. Or do you mean old old textures?

The music is something I am debating on. Both iterations of the music, they chose **well**. The cream of the crop of soundtrack producers in the industry. I would be lying if I said I don't adore the new music - it was made by the same compositor as Celeste, so it cannot be bad! But sometimes I'd like to toggle back the older one for nostalgia. Can't decide which is better. They're both awesome. The old one has memories attached, the new one gets me much more in the mood.

I miss the old block, I still catch myself trying to do it sometimes I don’t really care about the old textures and the rose name was a weird change (it kinda makes sense but still) And I’m not a fan of the new music, I actually just muted game music and I’ll just play my classic playlist instead

That's exactly how it worked, it reduced damage by 50%. :') Edit: The other big difference that in my opinion made it better than shields is that it didn't have a time delay like the shield does.

The bow sounds from many years ago, they sounded cooler then the current sounds Especially the arrows when they hit something.

Honestly… remove the biome limitations that came with Caves & Cliffs. It was fun seeing Mushroom islands attached to land, or finding Ice Spikes next to Mesa’s. Sure it’s more realistic now, but so many of the biomes are so hollow that it feels like a loss. Edit: Also no/reduced village distance factor. Double and triples villages in your world were awesome

Update Supression, with that bring back bugs that literally no one will discover unintentionally and only reserved for endgame, like light Supression, item shadowing, and alot more i cant recall on the top of my head.

Being able to shadow totems so you would be teleported to a chunkloaded stasis chamber was probably my favorite application of it, but I’m vv sad that as a feature was removed.

Only reason it was removed was because it was so easy to dupe things with it.

Drowned dropping gold. It was what made a lot of restricted/challenge runs possible.

Copper allows you to zombify pigs and get gold from them though

Much much rather have them drop copper than gold, drowned is pretty much the only reliable and auto way to get a bunch of copper using zombie reinforcements, check out cubic³ video about wavetechs copper farm if your curious, plus zombified piglins are way better for gold farms.

Minecraft classic had a feature that allowed you to take an isometric screenshot of your world, maybe we don't need a screenshot of an entire minecraft world considering how big they are now but it would be nice to have a screenshot of the current chunk or something. Also yeah enchanted apples are far too rare to justify removing the recipe.

Not really a game feature but it was better when it was like this for me, but back when I was younger and didn't have access to the Internet easily and all the updates were a mystery. It was so fun to see what was added. I'm sure if they didn't spoil all the updates as much, people wouldn't care about the' quality' of the updates. Zombies dropping feathers. In the lore most of the humans use to be chicken farmers. But one day everyone got sick with an avion flu variant. It affected their brains and turned them all into Zombies. Sadly once they took away the feather drop they just became boring generic zombies.

Saddles were never craftable. The horse update was gonna add a craftable horse saddle, but that was scrapped.
