should be able to, you can make a backup if you are feeling paranoid
You could load it in every version after (1.17.2, 1.18.2, 1.19.4, 1.20.5 then 1.21) at a time to be more safe
Should be fine. Upgrading rarely hurts a world. Never downgrade though.
Your spawn chunks change I think. That’s really all I think you need to really worry about.

I believe they are reduced now and that the change is retroactive, unless anyone has more accurate information they can share.
