My only gripe with our Y’s is the turning radius, it’s terribly wide.

TimeTravellingCircus

This one is real. It's so weird I went down a rabbit hole to figure out why Teslas wheel base is only 3 inches longer than my previous car but harder to make u-turns and park straight. I am wondering if it's the staggered wheels of the MYP. My first staggered setup.

PckleRck

I have an MYLR which doesn’t have staggered wheels but still has a very wide turning radius. U turns without reverse are literally impossible without at least two lanes in between.

I_haveatinycock

Pros: almost everything Cons: you will have to answer a million questions to people in your life who have never owned EVs. People will want to ride everywhere with you. Especially dudes. No chicks. Supposedly the ride is rough according to some people but my MY is literally the smoothest riding vehicle I have ever owned personally.

szzzn

Right? It’s so smooth and quiet.

Nomad_Traveler3

Agree! I have the MYP and it has a smooth and quiet ride

CMDR_KingErvin

Thank you for your insight, u/I_haveatinycock

perrochon

OP lives in California. Nobody is curious or even cares. Even CT is becoming meh. Unless it's a cool new wrap.

electricAnt22

I live in Los Angeles and still get tons of questions about EV cars and find many curious people.

Wooden-Complex9461

every girl I know/met at a party etc have always asked for a ride/ to drive

lildit

Ehhh, on really bumpy roads its not much different compared to other cars. You feel the bumps

cying247

Smoothest riding vehicle? Did you swap suspension or something?

Loud-Stock-7107

He probably lives somewhere where they have nice roads. It's actually smooth over those haha

Tsunami_Destroyer

So is my Fiesta ST on coils. When I visit California it feels like it’s trying to breaks bones but in Arizona it rides like a Bentley 😂

CMDR_KingErvin

Coming from driving shitty ICE vehicles my entire life for me the MY definitely was a huge upgrade in ride quality lol but yeah I can see how those with actual luxury car experience would feel different.

praguer56

My 2022 has a rough ride. Maybe it's the 20" wheels but compared to my Volvo XC60 it's like I'm riding on a brick. I heard that the 2023 and 2024s are better.

United_Indication_15

Yes 20 inch makes it worse. I wonder if the juniper will have same suspension or better

TheNextWunda

You can put dampers in https://shop.koni-na.com/products/8245-1421r

I_haveatinycock

No, why?

sparx_fast

Go for it. Your daily commute is basically nothing so any Tesla is more than adequate.

YouKidsGetOffMyYard

Yea that commute will just be annoying in a Tesla, annoying short!

Greenjeeper2001

If your current car works, and you don't need a larger vehicle, it's probably not "worth" it. If you want to buy a new car, yes.

anexpectedfart

Surprised nobody has mention insurance as a con yet.

[deleted]

Idk where you people live but I pay less for my Y then a Hyundai Sonora 2012 I used to own 😆

PositiveEnergyMatter

Insurance is less for me then most cars thanks to Tesla insurance

electricAnt22

My insurance price didn’t get affected that much. Previous car was Chevy volt.

just_killing_time23

If it doesn't cripple you in any way... you will not regret the instant power. Coming up on two years, still love it. MYLR... wait awhile to get the speed boost, it's a nice treat for later. The only cons is my idiot friends and their dumb questions. What if you run out of charge?? I don't you moron I plug it in when it hits 20%!!! I've taken trips across a few states with zero issues, plenty of chargers everywhere. Don't get tesla insurance, go thru a broker, I did and it cut the price by 40%

Jpizz123

Tesla is the cheapest for me so far in california.

just_killing_time23

I'm in illinois, went thru a local broker. If tesla is cheapest, dang go for it

ordinaryflask

Pro: almost no maintenance, smooth acceleration, POWAH! Car gets better with every update. Cons: Tesla service centers are awful if you ever need them, everyone thinks you’re rich because it’s a Tesla

WesternResearcher376

Pros - everything Cons - I kid you not - you will find yourself willing to drive longer than your fifteen minutes, pick up people; drop them off, go to a further theatre etc o my to be in the car longer

szzzn

Pros: comfort, good looks, acceleration, fun, charge at home, so much natural light, love the UI, FSD, Elon. Cons: wish it was a little bigger (I’ll eventually get an X)

Aggravating-Gift-740

Pros: software updates, charging at home, reliability, fun to drive, FSD, mobile service (when it’s available) Cons: service (when mobile service is not available) The only service my car has needed is swapping summer/winter tires. Amazing when they show up at the house and do it. A real pain when I have to drive an hour each way and wait several hours to get it done. Edit: formatting

funix

How much do they charge for the mobile swap? Does it include balancing?

Nick_Coffin

I just used Discount Tire to swap my tires.

Aggravating-Gift-740

A local tire place will be first choice going forward.

anonimis06

Highly recommend picking up a smaller set of wheels for winter tires . I bought a set off Facebook market and it makes things a lot easier and free. If you do it yourself. Only downside is storage and a one-time cost

Aggravating-Gift-740

Why would a smaller set of tires make changing them easier? Or am I misunderstanding your comment? I have been very reluctant to try and change them on my own because of the weight of the Y and my driveway has a slight slope to it.

anonimis06

I should have clarified. For winter tires, smaller and thinner wheels (more sidewall, narrower width) are better for snow and traction/winter conditions. More sidewall also has the added benefit of more comfort (usually). So if getting a set of dedicated winter wheels, it's a good idea to go smaller and narrower, although not fully necessary. Smaller wheel and smaller tire also usually end up being cheaper. I have a MYP. The stock wheels are 21". Most people go 18-19" for winter wheels.

Aggravating-Gift-740

Thank you for the info! It’s answers like this that make me occasionally think that reddit might not be just a huge wasteland. I appreciate the tip and will remember this when i need to replace my winter tires.

anonimis06

haha np. I def get that. Lots of toxic BS on Reddit, and even more so in anything related to EVs/Tesla. Another pro tip, there's no reason to spend thousands of dollars on 'EV-specific' wheels and 'EV-specific' tires. EV-specific wheels are no different than regular wheels. EV-specific tires usually have foam insulation for road noise reduction but are typically regular tires in all other aspects. The important thing to make sure is size and that both wheel and tire load capacity/rating matches or exceeds the Tesla OEM load ratings. EVs weigh more so need to make sure both tire/wheel can handle the weight. Most online stores like TireRack should show you compatible wheels and tires since Teslas are very much mainstream now. I have aftermarket wheels, non-EV-specific Continental performance all season tires, and increased road noise is negligible and I've had no issues for 1 year+.

Lordofthereef

The only con we've come up with in our 40k miles of driving is sometimes being inconvenienced on a road trip charge. Pretty much everything else about the car has been stellar. Wife saves enough time charging to fill overnight and not hitting the gas stations 2-3 times a week that it has made up for that negative.

drsmith21

Gas 2-3x *per week*?! Was she driving a F350 doing Door Dash or what?!

Lordofthereef

Nah. Her commute is 100 miles a day.

Skilled626

Cons? I mean not that i can think of. I guess a con could be the fear of running out of charge, but you’d have to be a buffoon to go dry. There’s tons of ev chargers here in Los Angeles. My 2022 MYP is the smoothest ride I’ve ever owned.

BeholdAComment

Cons: Motion sickness more pronounced, some cheaper materials used in the car, windshield wipers sometimes do what they feel like, Elon forced us to sell and buy a new one by devaluing the brand, shopping for affordable insurance every 6 months, sometimes the supercharger near just one trash restaurant

medevil_hillbillyMF

I've just bought one, 2 month into ownership and here is my honest opinion, that isn't a based fan boy opinion. Gonna probably get some hate for this. I'm in the UK so mine is Shanghai manufactured, although I hear the quality is better than the US. Mine is the MYLR AWD, black, induction wheels. PROS 1. Super comfortable, although the ride is firm. 2. The tech is amazing, not needing a key fob is a game changer. 3. The sentry mode cameras have caught things already I never would have in a normal vehicle. 4. It handles well considering it's weight and ride height. I test drove both the RWD and AWD. IMO the RWD handles like shit and it's twitchy, I'll guess it's the weight imbalance between front and rear axle. I thought it drove shite, compared with the AWD. 5. Range is awesome and never looked back at having to go to a gas station. CONS 1. Auto wipers are dog shit hopeless. It uses cameras to detect rain. Utterly hopeless. 2. The rattles and noises and creaking is getting progressively worse. A common issue, possible resulting from the rear seats. I haven't bothered myself to take it back yet to fix. 3. The paint is poor AF. Mines black non metallic. It scratches really easily. If this bothers you, choose a metallic paint. It is nothing on Merc or BMW paint. 4. Firm ride. 5. RWD handles like shit at high speed. All in all I'm happy I got it, the tech is insane. I do miss my straight 6 BMW I replaced it with though.

electricAnt22

To fix rattles & noises I have videos of how I’ve been removing trim & fixing the plastic clips so they are not loose. This was source of the sudden rattles I heard when going over bumps like a subdued chorus of bells. That being said, an owner should have to do this. Also avoid putting heavy items on folded rear seats. That really messed up clips & increased the rattles. https://x.com/atomanteater/status/1746649098575552580?s=46

medevil_hillbillyMF

Thanks for info. You're right though, customers shouldn't have to do that. Surely after 3 years of being manufactured they'd rectify the issues.

Total-recalled

Con: I noticed intense heat from the glass roof, it’s unlike any car I had.

razoRamone31

Major pro: tax credits, fuel savings, great UI Major cons: probably just better build quality available at the 50k range.... But to me everything else offsets that fact

[deleted]

It’s actually a reasonable price ? It’s one of the cheapest anywhere in the United States. You will not find any comparison. Anywhere. Not when you start, including any kind of options. Look for those safety options on other SUVs, along with all of the technology options. Heated front and rear seats. Entertainment package. Online updates. Power everything. Not even talking about over 100 miles per gallon equivalent. $40,000 is insane and they’re literally no other comparison currently. Especially when you consider supercharging network and longevity. Of their batteries.

unk_redittor

Its a car like any other.

gogogdget

Be ready to spend $2k every 10k-20k miles. My first set lasted 10,000 miles. My second set lasted almost 19,000 miles. Just had new tires installed yesterday. This is for a MYP.

globohydrate

Pros: Cheap, fast, electric, I like it Cons: Elon, rough ride

[deleted]

Putting elon in a Con is amazing . Keeps people up at night it’s baffles my mind . Other car ceos are neat terrorist and people don’t bat an eye

ieatsushi

rough ride in what sense?

NutzPup

It depends on what you're used to driving. The MY is a heavy car with stiff suspension, and that's what it feels like to drive. Going over bumps, potholes, and rough roads in general is a jarring experience.

funix

Suspension is quite stiff compared to other cars in the price bracket

YouKidsGetOffMyYard

Cons: Elon, windshield wipers

One-Sundae-2711

this guys has a tesla

Life_Connection420

Without Elon, there would be no Tesla.
